Internet Restrictions?

At the moment, my internet restrictions are proper heavy, like I can only visit about 6 sites (NoFap included) on every one of my devices, and this morning I'm just wondering: do I really need these restrictions?

Yesterday I found a way around them anyway, because I charged my old Ipod touch and used that for porn, so clearly the restrictions haven't made a difference.

Another reason is that one day, I'll have to turn restrictions off, meaning that I'll have to learn to avoid porn rather than block it anyway, so why not just learn to avoid it now?

Restrictions seem like a massive inconvenience, and I know without them I have access to porn, but surely blocking it completely is kind of cheating, and learning to avoid it is more of a healthy achievement?

you need to be able to control yourself around the internet in the future as it is everywhere. and besides that if you really want to watch porn you will find a way regaurdless.

In my opinion restrictions wont really help much, you need to build your self discipline so you will remain strong in the future. This goes for all internet related things aswell not just porn

    That's a good question.
Keep in mind there's not one 'correct' answer here. This really differs from person to person. But I'll explain how it's been for me. [IMG]
I wouldn't ever want to only let myself access certain sites. I use the internet a lot, and probably visit at least 100 sites a week. So that would be largely unpractical. I want to be able to go where I want to go.
But there are some exceptions. If there are sites I know I'll only use for relapse... why keep being able to access them? I won't need them. Except if I want to relapse, and in that case, there are other ways to access porn.
I've got K9 on my pc's, and on my iPad I've got the Safari filter turned on. On both I needed to add quite some sites to the 'Always Allow' list, and in Safari, also add some to the 'Never Allow' list, that were allowed by default.
This actually helps a lot. As I've imposed on myself the rule not to turn off those filters. In the past, I'd often break those rules, due to lack of discipline. But my discipline is growing, and so is my faithfulness to the rules.
Say I'm curious about something related to porn or subs. If I wouldn't have a filter, I would say to myself "I'll look it up real quick, and then quit, without masturbating." Obviously, that wouldn't have worked.
Now, I realised "Oh, I can't look that up, I've got the filters. Well, I probably shouldn't look it up, anyway."
And if I ever do feel like I want to look something up for which I've got to turn off one of the filters, I can post about that on NoFap, and first make sure it won't lead me to relapse. [IMG]

    I work slightly differently

In the UK we have the option of getting the service provider (in my case SKY) to block porn. This has the advantage that all devices attached to the router are locked down at once. Yes of course I can use my phone but the data would be blown so I feel thats enough of a deterrent.

Might be worth seeing if you can get the service provider to lock you down remotely. Then you can unblock the various devices. AFterall getting around the iPad safari is a absolute doddle :)

My thoughts exactly! Restrictions will mean that I won't have the ability to not look at porn when it is available, and that means I may end up relapsing after a long time when I turn restrictions off in the future.

    Thanks for replying! :)

Good advice! I could block certain sites, but for me only allowing very few sites to be accessed is massively inconvenient. It's even getting in the way of my college work slightly as I can't even do Google searches!

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my thread :D

I also live in the UK, and I have heard of this. Maybe I should look into it :)

    Thanks for the reply :D

The cold hard fact is porn is everywhere we go, and some of it is unavoidable. whether hard core of soft core porn we are constantly running into it, i think learning to live with these triggers are most important in the long run. How ever for the short term porn blockers may help some. But as i mentioned before you want to have self control and self discipline. just my opinion however, we all just need to find what is the right way for ourselves!

This is an approach I don't like. Note: I'm not saying you shouldn't use it, I'm saying I don't want to use it, and I'd like to give my reasoning. [IMG]
As @Ezpz said (haha, now that I wrote out that name I get its meaning [IMG]), porn is pretty much unavailable. It's important to learn to have self control and discipline because of that, and of course for other areas in life too.
Yet, in my opinion, a porn blocker can help, to make it a little easier on yourself. But my advice is too always know the password. Firstly, so that if a site is blocked that you need access to, you can unblock it. But moreover: so you can watch porn when you want to. Yes. Because it's essential to learn to make the choice to not watch porn. Not abstain from porn because you have no other choice. So, in my opinion, whenever you make the choice to watch porn, you should be able to, and relapse. And I hope you'll learn something from the relapse, and make a different choice next time.
But having a filter locked with a password, even if you can easily look up the password, is a very good reminder of "Hm, do I really want to do this?..." [IMG]
