Is Masturbation a Necessity?

The reason why so many guys avoid nofap is because they believe that M is necessary. They think that giving up M is like giving up food or water. Here is why I think this is wrong.

First of all, I never felt the urge to M until after I started doing it. Before then I would occasionally have wet dreams. The body is designed to regulate itself. If you have excess sperm, it will be flushed out via nocturnal emission and or urine. I got by for roughly two years with just wet dreams. Sure they may be annoying, but they are the best method of eliminating excess sperm.

Second, it's sex that's the need, not M. While sex may not be necessary for your own survival, it is necessary for the survival of a species. Because masturbation does not contribute to reproduction, it's not necessary for survival.

Third: even if there are negative consequences for not M'ing, I will continue to do nofap. Nofap is paramount for anyone struggling with a PMO addiction because there is no other way (that I know of at least) to overcome that. However, I don't believe that you will suffer major consequences for M'ing occasionally. Just make sure to do it without P and don't give in to the chaser effect or else you risk becoming addicted again. I do nofap because it makes me more lively and productive.

In conclusion, guys who are addicted to MO/PMO come up with excuses for their habit. Of course none of them PMO because they think it's biologically necessary: they do it because it spikes their dopamine to unnaturally high levels. What are your thoughts on this subject? Do any of you agree or disagree?

Masturbation is NOT a necessity. It's simple something people want to do for self-pleasure. Then they get addicted to it and they find excuses so they can continue doing it.

Unfortunatly masturbation is hard to overcome because it plays with your mind activating your sexual drive so you are like "there's nothing bad if I masturbate once every week" I would say nothing bad, but it won't be once every week, it will be everyday! That's the problem. The addiction to masturbation and porn is really strong because you see naked girls on a video, enough to activate a man sex drive. It's a fucking poison created by the society, that's why porn make like billions every year off people watching it and it will only continue to grow it seems. World population is growing, therefore porn will grow as well. The government doesn't do anything about it, probably because they also watch porn during the day Lol. So yeah, we live in a highly sexualised world and you have to protect yourself with self control and a healthy mentality.

If you have regular sex, you won't lose it. Note that I said sex, not masturbation. If you do masturbate, you are basically destroying your penis by desensitizing it. So in that sense you would be "losing" it

Don't you people think we're blaming Masturbation too much? I mean.. I don't see the problem if when we are excited we would do that.. I think the problem is when we masturbate using porn and often.. That really alter the brain in my opinion..

I'm not against sex, but I don't agree that anyone "needs" sex. The human race needs it, in a sense, in order to propagate; but no one "needs" sex. A person can live a very healthy, happy life without it.

Do you mean, if you don't use your penis, you'll lose it? No, not true.

Do you mean, if you don't get erections regularly, you will lose the ability? No, not true.

It is true that people get erectile dysfunction, either because of health issues or age, but it's not because give yourself a rest. In fact, your body will give itself erections pretty regularly, without any help from us!

So I really don't know what you mean by "if you don't use it, you lose it."

  8. I saw a reply on the subreddit and the guy said he MO's once a month to flush the sperm. Its all up to the individual. I would say PM free is the best way.

If you can do it once a month, you are fine.

But...your brain likes all the chemicals that are released when you are masturbating and when you finish that deed. So it want's you do it again! And it keeps sending all those thoughts, physical and emotional sensations (what we call cravings).
Sooner or later you will break your "once a month rule".
Your brain likes repetition! That is how habits are formed. As you masturbate more and more, your brain is slowly working on forming a new brain circuits (very unhealthy one).
At first, you have masturbated just because it was pleasurable and your brain liked all those chemicals. But, before you know it, that circuit in your brain has become a real MONSTER! It want's to be fed all the time! At this point, you no longer only crave masturbation because it feels good, you crave it because it has become a preferred action each time you are feeling slightly "uncomfortable". Angry, sad, bored, depressed, rejected...
That's how it works. That's how people become addicted to alcohol, food, sex, drugs, nicotine, games, porn, internet, gambling....

    Your brain is very powerful!
However, it doesn't have to dictate your behaviors. What is learned can be unlearned, but it takes time.
If you can stick with the 90 Days of NoPMO, you will see that you can live without masturbation. Not only that, you will start to wonder why you even did it in the first place.
Of course, from time to time, that monster in your brain will attack you with random thoughts, physical and emotional sensations. But the only difference now is that you have weakened it a lot and you have learned to deal with those "brain attacks" in a different way.

But still...the monster will stay with you for the rest of your life. It doesn't need much to regain its power! All it takes is a little slip....
That's why, this forum is full of people who have relapsed after being clean for 3+ months and now are struggling to go past first week.

I hope this helps you a bit.

I can write a lot about this subject. In fact I should probably write a guide.
It takes a lot of time, but I should definitely do it because it will help me as well.

Well-said!!!!! Exactly. This has both psychological and physiological components in the addiction process, absolutely.

True. When I started doing pmo I was doing it once a month.. But then I started doing it every week and I know that when I didn't do it for a week I craved for it and soon continued it and started doing 3 times a week. Then I did it once every day but that wasn't enough for me so I started doing 2-3 times a day on a regular basis. My porn sessions lasted for hours (some of them) and I remember that once I did it for 4 years straight from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the afternoon and did it 4 times in a row and felt horrobly tired at the end of it and went to sleep from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am in the morning (I slept for 14 hours) and when I woke up I did it again and then I've been doing it 5 times a day which is horrobly enormously a lot. I mean now I realize why I was so stressed and nervous and freaked out and not concentrated most of the time. 30 days multiplied by 5 times a day = 150 orgasms/pmo sessions + tremendous loss of dopamine - an important neurotransmitter in your body which you urgently need for proper functioning and running the whole biological and mental system. When you are hungry, you want food because dopamine receptors give you a reward when you eat food you like it - they release dopamine which feels good and you want to eat even more until you reach the limit when dopamine receptors don't release dopamine anymore - so you stop eating because you are not rewarded for it anymore. You don't get dopamine anymore.

Eating is just one thing. There are hundreds of them. Like running, playing games, hanging out with friends and porn unfortunately. The problem is that when I did porn on such a high level I consumed so much dopamine that my body wasn't functioning properly anymore. I lost apetite for healthy food and craved snacks and energy drinks because they gave me a dopamine hit (which I didn't know at the time that I was messing up with my dopamine levels and receptors) and I felt "good". If sex is sugar than porm is super sugar I read somewhere and it's so right. I isolated myself and didn't enjoy the company of people and also almost stopped doing sports. I calculated that the same amount of dopamine that was wasted in a month could be saved and be normally consumed in a year. But porn really messes up with your dopamine receptors and they have to shut down for a while to recuperate from such consumption. Such addiction affects brains and the whole body in a very bad way and is very detrimental.

I've not masturbated for a week and have taken myself into an environment without access to normal Internet. I only have mobile phone with me and through meditation and mindfulness I know it's not a necessity. I can concentrate on more meaningful things in life rather than self pleasure. Through the most difficult time of my life I am learning that pleasure has to be with a partner and sex needs to be played out with them not along.

Couldn't agree more. That is why I know that I must never do pmo again because I know that doing it once will lead to the addictive cycle again because once is never enough and never satisfies you. It's the same as with drugs or alcohol. An alcoholic says I am going to drink only one glass of wine. But that's not enough for him and gives him a dopamine hit and he craves for more until he passes out. It's the same with pmo as it also spikes dopamine levels like alcohol. You have to be completely away from them in order to be completely rebooted and not addicted and not have that weird habits and unnaturally body responses. When you do omo you crave for more. Your dopamine level increases and you feel "good". When you do it again you feel that feeling again. But with years of doing this you are exhausting your dopamine receptors and dopamine production so you feel low, tired, anxious, sad, angry because you don't have the enrgy anymore

I went through that time and I can understand what you are talking about and you have to be disciplined and believe in yourself and good things await you. You have to go through this period of life just like I did in order to love happy and successfull life. Just push through it and believe in yourself. You can do this.

  16. The guy is free to flush the sperm monthly if he wishes. But it is completely unnecessary. Masturbation is not a need, it is
a desire or a want (just like sex). People invent all manner of pretexts (like the subreddit guy). If they were honest, they would just say: I wanna get off once a month by stroking my sausage! I agree @sfmark12, PM-free is the best way.

Well-said Bro! Too much dopamine really mess up anyone's brain. It's not just porn that people can get addicted. People can get addicted to pretty much everything else in life (you name it...alcohol, drugs, running, food, internet, etc)....Dopamine is the key

The fact of the matter is, in nine out of ten cases, it's either all the time or never at all. Moderation is unsustainable in the long run. Everyone knows that deep down. Additionally, there are no consequences to not M'ing, and the idea that you're missing out on something is a myth. People went hundreds of thousands of years without this obsession with PMO. So can you. The only hill you have to climb is the first few weeks, and then it's easy sailing.
