Atheists, God and the afterlife.

A group for members of all religions, or no religion at all, to talk about religion

  1. Okay, again sorry for the disrespect, I hate it when people do it to me and I certainly don't want to be that person either. :(

  2. No worries! I appreciate the apology. It didn't hurt my feelings too much or anything. Just a mild annoyance. We all do it sometimes. :)

  3. I guess, for me it kinda undermined anything I said though, and to be honest made me look like your stereotypical Atheist twat. lol

I deleted all those comments as I want this thread to get back on track, thank you for pointing out what I did!

And also, I can come off or seem aggressive and I'm sorry, I don't mean to be and I'm trying to change that.

I know atheists and religious people who do worse. No worries :)

  6. thats how you should live reguardless of what you believe

  7. atheist dont believe in God and what about God and the afterlife is there a after life for atheist if they dont believe in God so what do atheist believe in just living and dying??

  8. For me I've never believed in God my whole life. My parents didn't force it on me when I was growing up and even said, it's up to me if I want to believe or not and they'd love me regardless of the choice I made.

I've always been grateful to them for everything they've done and letting me choose and find my own way in life, my dad could of forced Atheism or me mum could of forced Christianity on me.

  9. i know what you mean saying people of faith and atheist have more freedom less worry because they dont get all religious they just live how they want but people of faith can live how they want too its still choices that they make still sin so do atheist believe in sins ? or they just think you are doing some thing wrong or they see it as i have no one to answer to so i can do things bad and not feel guilty or bad about it???

From what I've heard of atheists that I know, it depends. I've known some who believed in some type of purpose or essence, though no figure is behind it, and I've known others who consider life to be nothing more than a giant random number generator.

  11. thats good no one should be forced to believe in what they dont want to believe in God doesnt even force you see he simply gives instructions what to believe but lets you choose what you want god cant make you believe in him nor would he make you

  12. so what about people that say god did this and that for my life you think since you dont believe in god that it just happen by coincidence and if God doent exist all the people are wasting there time believe is it hurting them to believe

  13. I wouldn't say Atheists have more freedom than religious people, I think they have just as much freedom as we do, it's just in a different way is all.

Well for me I don't believe in sin, but more or less what is morally right or wrong. It's really hard for me to explain as I've never had to think about it before.

One atheist describe to me that the atheists' view on morality is what is good or bad for the society as a whole, while for religious people, it's what's bad or good in the eyes of God. That can be why many morals do overlap. But as I'm not an atheist and I'm indeed religious, I'm not sure how other atheists think about it

  15. Every one is born an atheist until they get taught what to believe

  16. Thanks for not taking it the wrong way! I didn't want to be rude, so I'm glad you didn't take it that way.

  17. I know this is kind of even further off topic from the thread, so if things get too far off track, OP, feel free to tell me to shut up. Lol but Sarah, I'm curious, what do you think about creation? I've seen and heard a lot of people, some in this thread, critiquing God for not providing evidence of his existence. But I don't see why more evidence we need outside of the very creation around us. Surely all of the intricacies of the world we live in couldn't have just come out of nowhere. We haven't seen any examples of that being possible in any other area of life. Nothing just comes out of nowhere. The sheer probability of human DNA, for example, existing and working in the way it does, without a creator, is far too much of a stretch for me to accept. A lot of people say it takes too much faith for them to believe in God, and that its not logical, but I feel completely the opposite. I think it takes far more faith to be an atheist, and personally, not to be offensive but it's just my opinion, I think it's far more illogical and unscientific.

OK here's my take on the afterlife and what I understand of paradise.

Parable #2 The meaning of Paradise?

Tweeby took the young lady into the casino of Life.

Tweeby looked onto the board and saw the squares of victory with their prizes. He shook the dice in his hand, knowing that it wasn’t the victories earned that mattered. “The zest of life is the rattle of dice in the cup,” he said to himself.

The Gamesmaster asked, “Monsieur Tweeby, how much are you willing to bet on the throw of your dice?” Tweeby looked at his dice. They were the dice of Talent, Dreams, and Endurance. He looked at his stack of chips, one color being whatever property and ‘things’ he had, another being his societal connections including that of his family and friends, and the most treasured type of chip of one’s most awesome resource: time.

Tweeby told the Gamesmaster, “Put it all on the table.” The Gamesmaster looked alarmed. “But if you do that, you may lose all your property, all your society, and all your time, and thus, your life. Are you willing to bet all that on your Talent, Dreams, and Endurance?” Everyone in the Casino was looking at Tweeby now. Very very few people bet it all.

“All on the table,” Tweeby repeated, rattling the dice. Laughing, he rolled the bones and said,

“The greatest risk you can take in life is not to risk it all!” he said

“You can be the smartest person in the world, the most talented, the most persistent, but you will never win in the world unless you embrace the glory of RISK.”

“But Tweeby, I am scared of risk. What if I lose?” -said the young lady

Tweeby slapped her. “You cannot lose! Everyone wants to define your life, to shape it to their ends. From politicians to your friends. Everything is all right as long as you stay you. But if you break out of the mold, everyone, and I do mean everyone, will try to stop you.”

“So how can we not lose?”, she begged.

“Just as on the battlefield, the valiant warrior losing in glorious battle is honorable. It is not the victory that defines the Man, it is the fight. There are some people who somehow have this curse or bad luck and must eat an excrement sandwich everyday. They win everytime they struggle against that.”

“So to risk is to fight. Then all this knowledge and ‘insights’ are merely the sword, shield, armor, and weapons we fight with? And those who fight, unarmed, are more worthy than those who sit there completely clad with the finest of weapons?”

“Yes. Paradise, spoken slowly, is literally a 'pair-of-dice'. Gamble what you have.

For if you bury your talent and dreams to sit on it, you will receive the wrath of heaven. ‘Unworthy servant!’ will be screamed at you.”

“But what if the situation itself seems IMPOSSIBLE? What if ALL ODDS SEEM AGAINST YOU? What happens then?”

Tweeby, exhausted from her answer, began to vanish towards the Place where he came from. “Just remember...”

“Opportunities are brilliantly disguised as impossible situations!”
