Question about second month and beyond

I've been "no PM" for 31 days now. I need to know from those who have been there what to expect from this point on. My guess is that recovery changes after that first thirty days in certain ways. What have you all found that it's important to be aware of? I want to be ready for what comes so I can prepare to be successful.

Thanks @2525 for moving my thread to the right place and for the benefit of your own experiences.

@Unhooked, you and I have been using porn for a very long time, you about 40 years and me about 35 (give or take). People on these forums talk of rebooting, and the day count that gets used is 90 days (or 180 if you need more). This has not been my experience. I think I am an addict, I do not believe in a reboot. I might be wrong, @James232 estimated that to reboot you need 2 months for every year of porn use. If that's correct I will have rebooted after 2,131 days, so I only have 1,628 to go! But seriously I think I am an addict. @2525 is right, it does get easier, but that seems largely because we get better at being porn free: we avoid the traps, we substitute good habits, we stop hurting our wives, ... Back at the end of January I hit a very bad patch. I did not cave in, I stayed porn free, but it was close. That started on Day 458.

(N.B. I was going to say "look at my journal posts from Day 48 and the next on Day 55 will give you some idea of the roller-coaster you are in for", but I see this is an old thread and you are already past the 100 days mark.)

One more thing I will say is that the support, encouragement, and challenge from people here has made all the difference to me.

    Good luck.

Thanks so much for responding even though it has been some time since I started the thread. You are right about the power of the addiction. I know I will always be vulnerable in this area and will need to take precautions, but isn’t that true of everyone to some extent with various behaviors? There are tough days and there are easier days.

When i quit drinking i got a tattoo "NFD", it stands for "no first drink". If i choose to have a single drink it will bring that addiction back to life. Same with this addiction. One pic, 10 seconds of video, or a hundred other things can bring that addiction back to life. I do believe in the reboot process as thats basically tge kind of treatment i went through to stop drinking. There is no set time frame for this process. Everyone is different.

I would suggest you look up PAWS as it will shine some light on post addiction life.

Most of us are still in the process, some are done and you can read out them in success stories. Im some where around 6 weeks in at this point. So far im having semi-regular morning wood, more vivid erotic dreams and no brain fog. I have the thought that im horney but no physical responce to it yet.

You will have a rollercoaster of a time for a while. At some point you will probably wonder if your dick is dead, also known as a flatline.(Don’t worry; it’s not. By all means, don't test it out). I found my sexual function returning within two weeks. I’m married so have continued normal sex with my wife. Things have continued to improve. I’ve only tried it once without V, but that didn’t turn out so well. I’m hoping to reduce the dosage and eventually no longer need it. I’ve gone from 100mg with weak results to 50 mg and full erection. Also increased sensitivity and amazing Os (best I can remember). I told my wife just last night I felt like I was 20 again. I’m 65 btw.

It takes more than 90,180,365 days for your brains fluctuated chemicals, due to PMO, to reach an equilibrium. The minimum amount of time (PM abstinence) that is required for the "average" person to reach that "healed" stage is two years MINIMUM.

I would say that the best thing to be aware of is to not get too confident now that you have passed the 30 day mark. Being too confident could lead to a relapse. Remember, always be vigilant! :)
