Religion isn't my thing.

 

If this was politics it would be in caps.

 

I'm not religious so talking about it doesn't really do anything for me.

 

I return the discussion to the former topic before it was changed - cults. I really enjoy documentaries from people who were inside cult and left and gave us insight how it was there. I see there lot of parallel when my mother tried to bring me up in religion. Thanks fuckin god she didnt succeed.

All the cults are about the same - it's about power and controlling. Ordinary members genuinely believe they are doing good work because they were either brainwashed or grew up with it from infant childhood and do not know anything else. Moreover cult gives people higher purpose (although this is always fake purpose sold as real) and therefore ordinary members feel emancipated, they feel like they are worth something, they are helping others, saving others, they matter. This can be very appealing for the lost souls without any purpose in life. Until they wake up (maybe) one day and realize that it was all just fake, bulshit, mean to control people, have money and power.

Rather deal with that than a Poseidon's kiss.

 

Religion is fascinating. It's like the story of humanities attempts to understand the universe. But also the rules of personal conduct that allowed humans to form civilisation.

I think you can learn a great deal about the human experience analysing and learning about different religions, even if you are not a believer yourself.
