    ***TRIGGER WARNING***
This was sparked by a different post on age gaps in relationships. I chose to post these thoughts on their own to allow for that conversation to continue its natural current. Some of the language and descriptions may be triggering.

    ————————————————————————————

Legal age has taken over the porn industry, some of the newest performers being just a few days above 18. A serious ethical question arises from this and I just wanted to get a chance to see what people think on the subject.

Technicalities aside (yes, it’s legal and permissible), 18-19 seems to be a very early age to allow for people to make decisions with serious ramifications such as participate in porn, but this legal clearance is exploited by producers and agents who know and understand the ease with which to influence teenagers and wring them out as fast as possible. The truth is that there are not many who join the industry who are over 25 and last the duration of an average porn career: 3-6 months. (wish I could do the research, but it’ll not lead to a good place) It’s almost like they understand something that 18-19 year olds don’t.

I wish to ask how does it make you feel, being on the other side of it, especially if you have a close 17-19 year old (your sister, daughter, best friend, girlfriend) for reference?

I believe that we’re not desiring to acknowledge this exploitation of innocence that the industry is using as fuel because we fell like it’s within the borders of legality. And we’re not people who want bad things to happen to others, but it makes me feel extremely bad to acknowledge that even though consent and legality are in place - this is really grinding the mental stability and self worth of a human being. This age is usually unable to consider the effects of decisions long term and it lacks most of the emotional development that takes place later on - essential to mental wellbeing.

What about the user? How is the constant set standard of younger performers affecting us?

What are your thoughts on this?

  2. I'm not quite sure what your question is. I think porn is damaging to anyone involved, albeit especially younger people. But I'm not sure what the question is here, exactly.

  3. I do not consider 18 upwards to be a "very early age for people to make decisions with serious ramifications". Here in England, you can get married from 16 upwards. That, too, is a decision with "serious ramifications". So, why the question?

As for age differences in both desire and relationships, I am less concerned than you. If we find someone attractive aged 18, why would we find them less so when we are 25, 45, 65 etc? As for the 18 year old, they may find their attraction lies with the older person, which could also mean ages 25, 45 65 and so on. We can have plutonic relationships with people many years/decades our junior and senior. So, why does an intimate relationship necessarily have to be different?

  4. Yeah, i see what you are saying, althouhh igy had a goid point about them being old enough to marry. Still, i think 18 is young, if you have to be 21 to drink then the same should go for making porn

I also see your point, and I suppose many concerns derivate from the belief that the younger a person involves into that type of world, the worse the damage to their lives will be. Although I have always have had the belief that age does not justify maturity in the person's ability to make responsible decisions, I do believe that there are risk factors involving age. Because with young ages (at least statistically speaking and cases will vary of course) we are taking about people who are experiencing the awekening of sexual wish and that are getting ready for a new world of opportunities. Porn industry is more likely to take advantage from these two. For example, take a look at evolution of porn thoughtout the years. With the creation of internet pornography became a much easier resource to obtain by just typing in a computer. With this came the creation of an industry that specializes on creating and distributing porn. Now, when porn became so easy to obtain more people could be affected. In this case, children or teenagers are the perfect targets since they are more likely to not being familared with its effects and feel the desire and curiosity to explore. With all of this said, I am not surprised that now they allow another part of their audience be part ot the industry. It might seem quite irrational, but I would consider the concern about the ages maybe dropping even further. Many would argue that this would be impossible due to laws that protect a minimum age, but so was porn illegal once upon a time and this idea is just an evidence of how much this industry is altering people's minds. I hope that those who have young children are capable of protecting the new generations, because by how this seems nowadays, pornography industries don't seem to be capable of being over with altering lifes.

  6. Here in the US you can join the army at 18, you can be tried as an adult even younger than 16. If you parents don't wanna help youre legally on your own at 18.
I understand with age comes wisdom and certain parts of the brain are still very immature at 18, but people should be able to make decently smart decisions. However, if we do want to focus on restricting decisions of young adults in the US, I think we should focus on the whole college and loans issue before porn. A lot more people are afflicted with crippling college debt because they were taken advantage of by the banks and schools

  7. 21 to drink? Where's that? Lol

In England it is 18 to drink. :)

  8. Really? Not in the US

look, I don't give a shit about this "Legal Age" thing, these people can't wipe their own asses even if they are 20, at this time they can't make good decisions and they need to explore life more, for being an 18-year-old douch fuck to take this decision to do porn for fame, fun and money is really a problem, and legally as a parent you can't do shit about it, unless you are another douch fuck who supports this kinda decision, the law makers should do something about this "of course they won't", at the end of the day as a normal porn user, I will fap to these young fucks and I will wipe my dick afterwards and move on, and these porn actors will live in misery "which as a porn user I won't give a shit or two about it".

    You ?

  17. In the US people are considered adults at 18. Most people still arent really mature at that age but people have to assume responsibility for themselves and their actions at some point. I wouldn't recommend anyone get involved in porn but I wouldn't quite call these young people who get involved in porn a 18 victims. It's porn and they know what porn entails. If you're values allow you to consider becoming a porn star then thats where the problem starts.

  18. The U.S. is the only country/place with that silly law

  19. Being able to drive at 16, being a legal adult at 18, being able to drink alcohol at 21 (in US) are all just random ages with little reasoning behind them.

The brain fully develops at age 25. At age 25 your brain should be at its full development and that includes your judgment. I know when I was 18 yo (2-3 years ago), my decision-making process and judgement was severely delayed (abusing porn included). I can feel myself getting smarter and making better decisions on a daily basis.

So technically i think it would be better for porn actresses to be around 25+. BUT (and it's a big butt;)), the law says 18+ is an adult and legal consenting. There shouldn't be any legislation raising that age.

I watched more amateur porn than porn stars, idk why. Im guessing some people did the same. Do you really think all those girls were strictly 18+. Highly doubt it. Pornhub.com for example has usernames that you log into, like this website. They could easily upload a video, it's not like Pornhub's server makes them upload a pic of the amateur's license. Easily could be 16-17 year olds that look... mature in the video. There would be no way of knowing

    Pornhub is also international
What is legal in USA is not in UK. As IGY said 16 is legal in his country... It's even lowe iin Asian countries. What we consider amateur or less is even lower elsewhere.
So I emplor you (a general audience 'you') , when a video gets uploaded from someone else, who is elsewhere, obeying other laws, do you really think they are thinking about what applies to you? Or do you think they only care about themselves?
