I can’t do it anymore

Okay it’s been ages since I’ve wrote a NoFap post. Like, months.

I’ve never done amazing at NoFap. I’ve been at it for a couple of years and my highest streaks is 30 days. My average streaks would probably be around 5/6 days.. until the last few months.

In the past couple of months I’ve just hit a complete wall. I literally haven’t made it past day 3 for over a month. The tiniest urges make me fall and I have absolutely no motivation or energy left to resist them.

I’d say I’m relapsing more now than I was at the start of the process. I’m at an all-time low and still falling. I don’t know what’s happened. I just have zero resistance, it’s like I’ve started over again.

I can’t think of anything that’s caused this. What do I do? How do I make progress again? I can’t go on like this.

  2. Most of the normies will balk at this response, oh well.

Sounds like a vampiric entity got attached to you. These negative entities are fed by any activity that caters to carnal sins, ala greed, lust etc. They do not want you to recover because then you cease being a food source for them. This event is a catalytic potential to learn about the hidden spiritual side of porn addiction.

Like attracts like. What do you fear? What are you running from?

I know how you feel. Try getting outside and getting some fresh air when you have the urges. Get away from social media and just sit for a moment and face the urges right then and there.

I’ve really been racking my brains in the last couple of weeks trying to figure out what I’m running from. The answer unfortunately remains unsolved.

I can only assume it’s responsibilty. The absolute only thing I can think of is that I’m finishing my college course in a few months and I’m a bit stuck on what to do with my education next year. The thing is that I’m not really stressed about that much, it’s just looking in my mind a little.

If it’s not that then I don’t know what I’m running from.

  5. You can do it but you can't if you try to do it alone. If you drop-out of what was working for you, it will stop working for you. Live in the solution. Live day to day porn free by actively engaging in activities that pursue that goal. Start or update your journal. Keep a counter, get an AP and use him _every day_. Keep it up, you'll get there.

    Peace,
    -Quinn

I do try to my friend.

Weirdly I relapsed today after a great day lying out in the sun. It was 22 Celsius here today and I was having a really great day outdoors, more importantly with no urges.

I just don’t know where that relapse came from. I got the slightest urge earlier this evening and bam, I relapsed. Absolutely no resistance at all.

I really hope so. The problem is that I find it hard to motivate myself when those techniques have done nothing for me. As I said I’ve only ever made it to 30 days and I only did that when I was in a foreign country on work experience for three weeks.

What I’m trying to say is, if those things didn’t work before then I struggle to convince myself they’ll work this time.

Write down the new trigger. Now you know it's a new trigger for you when you lay out in the sun. Always document every trigger/urge you have. Weather influences? Food? Mood? etc.. You get the idea.

I see how that could help.

Just to note I don’t think it was actually laying out in the sun that caused the relapse. I think it could have been possibly things on social media etc. I’d seen over the past few days (and I have seen a few triggers recently)

  10. There is more than one way to skin the cat of porn addiction. Here are some things I do:

    - Attend SAA meetings (been 8 years now)
    - Go out every Tuesday night with guys in the program to track our counters together and support each other.
    - Group text guys every day "Happy Sober Monday", etc.
    - Make phone calls
    - Remove the browser on my phone, give an AP the code
    - Install filtering software on my computer
    - Write out a 30 days sobriety plan (this guy who does a podcast called "Porn Free Radio" is really great with practical tools. Episodes 94, 95, and 96, I _think_).

And here is the #1 thing that keeps me sober:

Help a newcomer. Encourage them on. Go to the newbies forum and welcome them. Tell them if it can work for me, it can work for you. Share your story. When I share my story with someone else, it becomes crystal clear to me why I am doing this. This is a disease of forgetting. I need to constantly remind myself.

If you want to stay sober, you gotta work the bejeezus out of it. It is hard and it requires effort. But you can do it. "Half measures" as they say in AA "ain't worth sh*t" (paraphrase) :)

    Peace,
    -Quinn

  11. Even if you have an urge, you still have a choice.

Choose the rest of your life.

Because that is where you are. This thing fries your motivation to do anything in the rest of your life, and that effect gets stronger as you get older.

Thanks for the advice, and thanks for taking the time to comment!

Some of these points certainly sound excellent, and I particularly like the idea of helping newcomers :)

That’s a very powerful point there. Thanks for opening my eyes a bit more.

It’s very true what you say. No matter how bad the urge, we always have control and we always have a choice.

  15. Agreed. I know you said you left because it wasn't working for you but that's the tail wagging the dog. There is no silver bullet for this problem that's going to do the work for you. You have to put your back into it. And if you do, and a particular tool isn't effective, find another.

Maybe your circumstances have changed and you have lowered your guards when it came to triggers. You might need to re-identify your triggers and try to avoid them.
My triggers are loneliness, night time, seeing girls in skimpy shorts or trousers. So before I started NOFAP I had told myself I'll not stare at girls more than a second and I'll not turn around to at their back when I drive past or walk past them. I trade crypto and forex and I always find myself alone with my phone 24/7 mostly at night and sometimes it gets boring and that's when I relapse. So I decided to move to a friends' who also is a trader and explained to him what my problem is and he has promised to be my guardian for a few days.
I hope this helped. And always try to keep busy. Cooking is working for me.

    Quite possibly.

I’ve spent less time on NoFap in the last few months because I found the more I came on here the more I was focused on not relapsing which made staying clean much harder than it really is.

In other words, I thought I was trying too hard. However seeing my progress lately has made me realise that may not have been the case.

I’m only in college 2 days per week, and work 1 day per week, so it’s safe to say I do have a lot of time on my hands.

In the past I have tried to go into college more days and just to some extra coursework but that didn’t necessarily prove effective.

As you said, I need to find something to fill this spare time but I’ve been trying to find something for years.

You said my circumstances may be different, and I think that could be very true.

I went through a rough patch at the start of the year, and I took a so called ‘break’ from NoFap (bad, bad mistake). After relapsing so much I didn’t have any guard up against triggers (as I wasn’t necessarily avoiding them).

However, now I want to try again I have absolutely no guard left because I’ve been relapsing so much. I think it’ll be a matter of rebuilding discipline and working my way up slowly.

Could you buy a diary and use it as a personal-motivator. I have one and it's great to look back on all the pages I have not PMO'd or had any resets. Think I read somewhere you have higher chances of achieving a goal if you write it down/keep a memo of it.
