I'm on day 50 of NOFAP and so far the withdrawal symptoms have been a roller coaster. Particularly difficult is the insomnia that comes and goes. For the first 2 weeks the insomnia was really bad, by week 3 and 4 it got better, by week 5 I got decent sleep, but now on week 7 the insomnia seems to be coming back.

What have you all experienced insomnia? Please share your feedback on the poll and feel free to reply.

I don't get insomnia because of my addiction, but I often spend sleepless nights because I am anxious or agitated about different things. Meditation helps a lot.

  3. Same as above for me, although since I gave up nicotine and hard liquor and changed my diet, I've had a major improvement with sleep.

  4. Reading a book before bed has been very helpful for me when dealing with insomnia. This week, I have been trying to turn off all of my electronics between 11 and 11:30. The lights from the screen can make me agitated before bed.

This is my toughest challenge so far!
I have been having bad sleep quality for years now. Up to recently, I had to watch a lot of TV before falling asleep. 1 month into NoFap I decided that I should block all TV and computer use in my bedroom before sleep. And so I did..
At the moment my sleep quality is still bad (night awakenings, waking up feeling tired, feeling tired throughout the day), but at least I don't need to get exhausted from TV. I sleep on my own.
I really want to find something to help me get 10+ hours of straight sleep, at least for a few weeks to get my energy back.
I tried melatonin, 5htp, valeriana, passiflora etc. Nothing works.

One of the things that interrupt my sleep is the lack of morning wood (especially before nofap). I used to wake in the middle of the night to pee (my dick was dead). The normal is to get a boner while sleeping if you have an urge to pee, thus keeping you asleep. If you can't have a boner while asleep, then you wake up. That is my theory.

The morning wood is slowly coming back but it's not at 100%. For example i may wake up at 7:30AM with a boner and force myself to sleep. Then I wake up at 8:00 but the boner is gone.

@JJackson Are you watching media on the internet or TV? Also, how often do you have restless nights?

Do people not watch stuff? Of course I do and last night was the only time recently, other times we're few and far between and haven't happened in months

@JJackson Studies show that using media before bed relates to overall poor sleep habits. Although a direct link to insomnia is tenuous, I think that there is also good evidence for causality there as well.

    See medical journals:

Oh. I thought you meant did I watch stuff in General because that seemed weird.

Yeah Ive heard that using media before sleep thing but I don't really think that's what has an effect on me. Its not often that I have sleeping problems, only when my mind is dying for PMO.

I've been using media right before falling asleep my whole life, literally the entire time so I don't think its doing that. Maybe I'll have better sleep if I stop but its not caused any issues that I can see.

When I can't sleep its just a war in my head of fantasies flooding in and me trying to ignore and get rid of them so I end up laying there with my eyes closed with my mind being extremely active.

Ill check out those journals though, thanks.
