Dopamine antagonists for quicker recovery?

Hey everybody. I hope all of you be ok and healthy and your sobrieties go well!
Yesterday I went to a neurologist and explained my conditions to him. He gave me Buspirone (Buspar). When I searched through the net I found out that it is a dopamine antagonist drug. When I researched more I found out that dopamine antagonists may be are our answers. These drugs block dopamine receptors from sensing dopamine in our brain.
So let's analyze how these kinds of medicines could help us. As you know porn addiction is very similar to drug addiction. By watching porn for hours and hours we make a dopamine flood in our brain. This will cause the brain to lower dopamine receptors sensitivity through the time... As we consume more porn, our dopamine receptors become less sensitive... it is the reason we cannot enjoy regular things in our life anymore and finally we stuck in social anxiety, depression and anxiety disorders.
By knowing these facts, we finally decide to get over porn and get back to normal life!
But as we decide to stop using porn for recovery, the problems begin called as "dopamine withdrawal symptoms" which are related to dopamine imbalances in the brain. For me, these symptoms are: Insomnia, anxiety, brain fog, lack of concentration and hot flashes.
As we stop using porn, our brain starts to rehabilitate itself. Dopamine receptors sensitivity will gradually come back. But it takes time! and during this time we will experience dopamine withdrawal symptoms considering that our receptors cannot sense regular dopamine releases in our brain. However, our receptors already have started increasing their sensitivity, but they need more time and during this time we experience awful symptoms...
So let's go back to dopamine antagonists. This is my deduction. By taking these pills, we will block receptors from sensing dopamine more than before! The sensitivity of our receptors was low considering our conditions, and, by taking these pills we block them of sensing dopamine... Therefore, as the brain can't sense dopamine (considering that we had blocked dopamine receptors), it starts to rehabilitate dopamine receptors quicker and increase their sensitivity in order to sense more dopamine! So in this way, we can speed up our dopamine receptors recovery and finally get over all these symptoms more quickly and get back to life... However, considering that these pills have some dopamine blocking characteristics, it might make our dopamine withdrawal symptoms worse for the first 2-3 weeks. But it can make the recovery faster!
Anyway, this was my deduction considering the researches I've done. I don't know how much of this deduction is correct or if it is correct at all or not! If anyone has any information about this, please consider approving or denying my deduction in the comments. I will be so grateful to read your experiences and researches for this topic.
We should help each other to recover faster and go back to normal life! Finally, sorry if my English wasn't good enough!

Very interesting. I’ve been on buspirone for 1 year before attempting my reboot. Maybe it has helped, maybe not. After reading many stories here on NoFap, it does seems like my recovery has been somewhat quick. 2 1/2 weeks in now. I still get urges to watch porn. That hasn’t gone away. But the benefits of abstaining have already made themselves very clear to me. So maybe there is something to this.

Interesting! so you have experience of Busperine. How long does it take for its benefits to show up buddy? it is said that it should takes about 3-4 weeks... What was your dosage?
It is soon to judge! my withdrawal symptoms begun after 2 months! which made me to relapse anyway...

I think so! you know it's been a long time for me trying to recover. So I guess it can make the recovery quicker!

  8. Good luck, and remember to avoid getting addicted to the medication!

  9. Bit late on my response, but I wouldn't consider Buspirone a dopamine antagonist. It does have dopamine antagonist effects, but it has very low affinity for the receptors. It's primary mechanism of action is as a 5HT1A agonist. It works well for generalised anxiety for a lot of people, and not so much for others - it's highly individual how people respond to it, and it will generally take some time of using it to see if it works for you for this purpose.

If you wanted a dopamine antagonist, you'd look at things like Quietapine (Seroquel) etc. Be aware though that dopamine antagonists have a whole host of side effects, including some nasty ones like tardive dyskinesia that may be permanent even after stopping use.

I see where you're coming from, and your approach makes sense in some other cases - most of the time we prescribe drugs that provide a temporary bandaid, but actually stiff us over in the long run, causing a down-regulation of the receptors we want to improve. The reverse approach, a temporary negative, for a long-term up-regulation, would work great in a lot of cases.

The trouble with dopamine though is that you have d1, d2, d3, d4, and d5 receptors, and too much of any one of them is just as bad as too little. Dopamine antagonists tend to be primarily selective for one specific subtype, and so what you'll end up doing, is up-regulating a particular type of dopamine receptor a LOT, while not affecting the others. This'll lead to a weird balance of dopamine receptors, and subsequent side-effects.

You know that tardive dyskinesia I mentioned? aka uncontrollable shaking?

This is a side-effect of precisely what you're trying to achieve: Seroquel and the like up-regulate D3 receptors, which can lead to tardive dyskinesia.

If you want to restore natural dopamine receptor function, the best way to do so is simply to remove the things that are down-regulating your dopamine receptors in the first place, like drugs or porn. Just as your body tries to achieve homeostasis by down-regulating your D2 receptors after heavy porn use, so will it too up-regulate those same receptors again with sufficient abstinence. You have to be patient and let the process take its course.

If you do want to experiment a little with up-regulating D2, the best bet to try would be something like Uridine. There's some tentative evidence that Uridine may have some D2 up-regulating properties: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2906500 - that said, again, the best solution is just to quit porn/drugs/any other D2 down-regulating activities, and be patient. Normal receptor functionality will return with sufficient abstinence.

    Hope this helps!

Man, i don't mean to be disrespectful, but are you a doctor?

I mean, on what basis you have a theory which involves taking drugs?

Thank you my friend! Your explanations in such details were really helpful! Anyway, Do you know any natural supplement or vitamins and minerals which speed up this recovery? Considering that those chemical based drugs have such side effects...

  12. I've heard subultiamine (a nootropic; type of vitamine B1) can help increase dopamine receptor density. Also, N-acetyl-choline. I have no experience with these so I can't comment on whether these help or not.

    Other than that, L-tryptophan maybe?

I do have some experience with Seroquel, you really do not want to be taking those.

There are no magic bullets though. In the end, what it takes to grow a neuron above anything else is time. Popping a supplement will only mean the building blocks are in place. You can get these building blocks by eating a healthy diet just as well I suppose.

  13. Tryptophan can help with low serotonin, such as chronically stressed or ill people but its best taken only if you have sleep issues imo, unless you have other info?

That's some good deduction. But it would be better if you could not give medical prescriptions in the forum. Some might try using that drug and might not work for them.

  15. Yes, it acts mainly on serotonin, but is said to also affect levels of noradrenalin, dopamine and beta-endorphins. In that sense it's kind of comparable to wellbutrin and other snri's. It most likely is the best natural alternative to antidepressant medications. That or 5HTP.

  16. I have been looking up similar stuff, too many health warnings, just went and looked up the foods that are high in the listed chemicals, and will try that

not a chemist, dont want nofap solving to create other problems

  17. What do you think about 24 hours fast one, or two times a week? Should that help somehow the recovery?
