Organized movement to ban pornography

  1. I was thinking where anyone fantasized that in the future that there would be an organized mass movement to ban pornography?

Should pornography be banned or should it be allowed to be there whiles we try to discipline our minds to avoid it?

By banning pornography would it save 1000s of people from getting into addictive behaviours which consume the time, money, resources and effort to get people back on track to how they used to be without porn?

If porn was to be banned then should there be substitutes available (such as educational sex videos)?

  2. I fantasize that there will be time where governments does not stick their noses in people's personal business. Whether that would be weed, homosexuality, cocaine use, pornography, prostitution or anything else. It's our life and we should be free to live it the way we desire, as long as we are not interfering with rights and well being of others by doing so. Banning porn is one step back away from democracy and one step closer to totalitarianism.

I do however fantasize about the future time where harmful effects of porn are widely recognized by mainstream science and educational campaigns are created to spread awareness. We need to educate people so they can make intelligent choices, not force our opinions on them with power of law.

i guess it will come to a state like with cigarettes where everyone knows that it is bad and unhealthy but still it will be done by some people

  4. Banning pornography, just as banning alcohol (the Prohibition) or other recreational drugs (the so-called "war on drugs"), simply drives it underground out of reach of regulators, where the people who decide the ages of actors, what is acceptable, and who may consume porn, are criminals.

It has to be legalized and regulated.

The solution is not banning it but education. Teach our children about porn — where it comes from; about human sex trafficking; how fake it is; the damage that it does to your brain, future, and relationships; and so on.

That way, it becomes socially unacceptable to teenagers, instead of them sneakily helping each other to view it.

Banning it altogether definitely shouldn’t happen, but I agree that it should be allowed only in specialty areas like a house or an adult business. It shouldn’t be supported in mainstream areas.

I think the question is very broad; is it more relevant at a local level or a federal level? Because, I would not be opposed to a local community that organized themselves and banned pornographic material outright in their town or city. If multiple cities followed suit, and if even the entire state legislated such action, I would still be unfazed.

The difference is voluntarism by the actors, so at every step, as long as they organized it from bottom to top, I would be fine with a universal porn ban.

But, a federal entity should have no say about it, whatsoever.

I dont feel that porn should ever be banned, but I do feel that more awareness should be brought up about its damaging effects. I grew up thinking that masturbating to porn on a regular basis was normal healthy behavior. All these healthcare professionals saying not to think much of it and so on. Well the evidence of my life is certainly a testament to its damaging effects. It's kind of like pain killers. When used in excess problems start forming.

  9. Thank you for all those valid opinions. So it is clear that democracy is important as always and that banning is not a solution.

However I am thinking whether alternatives should be promoted. For example a trend of sex education videos where consented actors perform sex acts in an educational way to drag people out of pornography and transform that into educational sex? Videos such as how to make love properly to a woman, how to touch her and how to give her what she wants in a documentary and educational style. I feel alternative approaches becoming more popular will bring benefit as well as be a good replacement for pornography.

I'd like to see it banned, though I've no idea how that'd work—perhaps regulated to the point it became something else. We've banned gladiatorial combat, and I hope bull fighting is banned in my lifetime, let's ban porn too.

Maybe start with placing real restrictions that prevent children from accessing porn.

The rest is better dealt with via changing hearts & minds.

Indeed, banning it will not get rid of it. And the content itself, be it educational or hardcore, is irrelevant. I find it highly unlikely that the majority of people with a porn related issue started with some extreme fetish, those are extreme, unnatural things that is rejected at first. But as we lose our sensitivity and look for a higher rush, things start to change. I think porn is dangerous, I believe it should be strictly regulated. Means to ensure no minor comes in contact with it, there were no sex ed classes centuries ago yet as a whole, humanity keeps multiplying. There was no porn either, so clearly it is not necessary. Because of it's danger, and lack of necessity, acess to it should only be allowed to a consenting adult, fully aware of their actions. But this would be a paradox, if new generations can only access it as adults, never having experienced before, knowing how dangerous it is, would anyone watch it anymore? How would you even exercise something like that and keep the freedom of the internet? This concept is like marxism, a star trek like utopic community, that could work, but never will

I think telling people the truth about it is more then enough.

Like cigarettes, you know they are unhealty but you don't ban them.

  14. Unfortunately, yes, many will. Consider cigarettes. Reams of teenagers take up smoking despite knowing full well the disastrous effects that they have.

Fear doesn't motivate most people to avoid dangerous habits where the consequences are years or decades away. But a tax on recreational drugs — including not only cigarettes and alcohol but also porn — that went directly to education and rehabilitation for drug abuse (including porn addiction) would be sensible, I think.

In the UK, moves are afoot to require all adult sites to verify the age of anyone accessing them. It was meant to become law last year, but the fatal flaws in the proposed legislation hadn't been fully thought through, so it's been delayed.

I believe banning may not be the best solution, but pornography shouldn't have a so well opinion as it has now. There so much wrong stuff going inside the pornographic industry like exploitation of young naive women, abuse. All the harm that porn causes, people should be aware of it. Right now PornHub is a 4 billion dollars company and they have excellent PR.

  16. So should we ban violent TV shows, movies and video games as well? One of my old Tutors at my university thought all TV shows that had people murdering people should be banned.

Yeah, I think Hollywood is evil.

  18. That would be a total waste of time. There are no cases of prohibition working. Everyone who wanted to watch it would obtain it illegally or find a sub. If you think porn is so bad then stop watching it.

  19. This right here is the best answer. As much as I would love to see porn removed from the face of the Earth, my views on personal freedom won’t allow me to support a porn ban.

awareness regarding porn harm should be created instead of banning it
