My nofap journey is going great; no porn or masturbation in 25 days, it feels pretty awesome!

I have however noticed that I'm eating far more crap than before. I always feel hungry, and so I eat lots of crap. I think it's going to be a mental battle to get over my new addiction to junk food (though very much achievable), especially whilst trying to hold down nofap. Has anyone experienced something like this before?

  2. Yes! I'm having a terrible time staying away from desserts and sodas. My body is crazing sugar like crazy. I've not done well with staying away.

Of course. It is absolutely normal. Don't worry about it that much and keep going. You will get rid of junk food later.

Always remember that "Will power" is a limited resource in our brain so it is very unlikely to handle 5 things in once with a great result. I am reading loads of psychology books and they keep saying that when your willpower is just a limited resource that needs to be constantly replenished by sleeping and so on. It is of course not amazing to eat junk and sweets but at the moment concentrate on nofap.

  5. Yes I am always stopping one thing to find another opens up. I guess as long as you are replacing it with a more tolerable, less socially unacceptable, more healthy, more legal addiction (even if just for a time) you are making progress.

Yes. I stopped pmo and smoking at the same time, and for the first time in my life i'm putting on belly fat, i've always been lean with abs all my life, but now i'm really eating a lot, and i mean a lot, if i go on like this it's going to be a problem in a year or 2.

Also my internet and youtube addiction is getting out of hands, to the point i almost think it's better to get back on porn sometimes.
I was healthier, and i was reading a lot years ago even if i was looking a lot of porn.

Best advice I've ever heard in a movie: "You're an addict; so be addicted. Just be addicted to something else."

"The most effective way to adopt a habit is to replace a bad one with a better one. think of habits as well-worn rivers of action that flow out of the predictable path of your routine. Often, the most effective way to stop it flowing in harmful directions is not by damming it but by diverting it. For example, many people stop smoking by chewing gum."

It takes 66 days of doing something to convert it to a habit on average. Plus having contingency plan for avoiding triggers ("If ... then ..." plan): When trigger X happens, I won't do bad habit Y, as I usually do, but I will replace it with much healthier Z action. For example: If I open pornographic side, I won't MB, as I usually do, but I will go outside the house immediately.

That’s quite encouraging to hear, thanks guys. I thought it was just me being crazy. It’s a bit depressing to see my abs fade and a belly grow, but good to know I can beat it. Perhaps I’ll swap eating rubbish with an addiction to getting fit and lean again!

What crazy addictions did you guys develop after quitting fap?

Yes, this is a very important time. After nofap, your brain will try to hook onto something else from the dopamine rush. The consumption of certain processed foods can be associated with endorphin release, which, in this case, you may be experiencing. If this is not the case, I believe it may be an issue with your gut microbiome.

This is where the psychological aspect of change becomes very interesting and crucial:

You need to find something productive that release dopamine as well. In fact, if you find a good enough match, your brain will get hooked on that productive activity and you will have strong subconscious cravings to repeat the process day after day.

I have noticed this myself, as I started to exercise bit by bit on nofap, and now I do so nearly everyday. There are some days that I know that I SHOULD NOT exercise because I haven't taken any rest days in between severely demanding HIIT training sessions, but I encounter that same subconscious pull that porn initially had on me prior to nofap. In some circumstances, this can actually be dangerous, as I started developing shin splints and damaging my tendons because I was exercising so hard. Without any porn to release dopamine to, I guess the body found an alternate pathway. After exercise, I have absolutely no urges as if the dopamine fix has been satiated.

This is something I would like to look into, as, in some way, porn addiction, when managed correctly, might actually be a way to jumpstart your life with good dopamine releasing habits such as creative efforts due to the strong subconscious effect it has on the brain. Perhaps this effect wears off after a period of abstinence, but I do believe that there is a window of time in which you can rewire the mental circuitry to create pathways to productive habits much more easily than for someone who had no addictions to pornography in the first place.

Your gut microbiome might be changing. Are you on any specific diets?
