I just joined. Had my last fap this morning. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for the first few weeks of rebooting.

    How long does rebooting take?
    Is it different with everyone?

How hard are things a couple days in?

Roughly how long will it be before I just stop feeling the cravings or at least I’m not thinking about it anymore?

Any advice or even anecdotes would be helpful.

To give you a good answer, we’ll need to know how long you were addicted for, and how many times a day you watched porn

I’ve been properly addicted for about a year although it’s worse at some times than others. I’ve been watching porn since we’ll before then.

I would watch up to three times a day normally.

I guess I’m just looking for a ballpark answer about what to expect since I’ve sort of just stepped into unknown territory.

The early days are the most challenging. Your body thinks it has just had sex in the last 24 hours and want it again!

The strong urges to watch porn and/or masturbate for first three days after you cum, are called the chaser effect.
Another notable day that is problematic is day 7 after you cum. On this day, your body will peak with testosterone.
The 2nd week should be slightly easier, but there'll still be strong urges for instant sexual gratification as per your habit.

I found around 20 days @ three weeks into the process you will enter the flatline. Your body will now have no sex drive
or libido at all. It can also cause mood swings with irritation or anger through to depression and anxiety. So, not easy. :(
This phase continues for several weeks. During my first proper reboot, it lasted from day 20 to day 70 @ seven weeks.

However, we are all different and what happens can vary quite a bit from one person to another. You will hear people talk
of the 90-day NoFap challenge. However, you cannot presume that everything will be back to normal after just 3 months.
Especially for teenagers and guys in their twenties, the reboot process takes longer than a middle aged guy for example.

So, don't get too caught up with the days. A counter is a useful tool, but there is much more to it than just that. I also recommend you click on The Glossary^. There you will find the explanations for the abbreviations and words we use.

    Thanks

I’m a bit concerned about the flatline period. In June I have some pretty important school exams. If I’m starting nofap today and I’m not past the flatline phase by then, might this affect me?

It’s worth noting , I’m doing nofap in conjunction with other things to get myself back on track. Healthy eating/exercise etc.

Also, have you ever heard of anyone that is doing nofap forever? Like indefinitely, they’re never masturbating again?

You see, I’ve got all this ambition on day 1 and I feel like I could give it up forever. Is this a realistic goal.

it might get a bit rough for a while, but around either week 1 or week 2, you'll get moments where you'll feel on top of the world. Urges would probably get worse as well, you might have to come up with a routine that will help you deal with them. I don't know if you'll experuence PAWS, but yeah, the flatline period has its ups and downs. If you stick by it, by June, things should be extremely better. I saw a success story post where this guy spoke about his benefits on the journey and he's only 4 months clean

+ the flatline's normal by the way. During the beginning of my journey, i freaked out because my dick felt numb for so long. If you ever start to worry, just know that its part of the proccess.

Yea. I just went through the process of getting rid of the porn on my phone. I could feel the cravings but got through it.

Have to wipe the memory on the predictive text so that sexually arousing stuff I’ve been typing for ages doesn’t trigger me to relapse

You should be well out of it by then. Mine lasted seven weeks, as I said. But your exams are more than double that period away from now. What would affect you worse is relapsing around that time. When you relapse you are thrown back to the worst days when the body craves instant sexual gratification and you will have the full range of withdrawal symptoms. By the way, during the flatline, do not test your dick! Some do this because they are anxious they cannot get erect. If you do this it will almost certainly lead to masturbation and probably watching nudity or even sexual intercourse.
Doing other things to get yourself back on track e.g. healthy eating/exercise etc is the best way to maximise the benefits.
Yes there are plenty of celibates past and present (including myself). Prior to my current streak, I went 454 days with no
P, M or O. Just one relapse two months ago ended that run. But it means I have done 500+ days with one relapse. Yes, lifelong abstinence from masturbation is a realistic goal. There are many benefits to this, so I recommend it buddy. :)

    Hello.
For most people 90 days is optimal time to fully rewire their brains and come back to normal again. But it's not a rule. Everybody is different and require a different amount of time to heal.
Yes, it is. It depends on usage of porn, and many other factors...
I think that first week is crucial. In that first week you will literally experience an essence of issues because of abstaining from porn and masturbation. You can feel tempation, sometimes even a beginning of a flatline... If you will conquer your sex drive you will succeed at every single thing you will want to, believe me. It can be difficult as hell to stay in and don't give up. But it's so much worth it... Anyway, don't fall in complacenty after a few successful days. Full focus is highly recommended, no matter of number of days.
It's hard to tell. I would say, that after 90 days of abstaining you will get rid of most cravings to watch porn. You will still be feeling natural drive to bust a but anyway, so it's tricky one...

    Some general advices from me:
    - keep yourself busy,
    - develop some new heathy habits like meditation, basic work outs, reading, cold showers, etc,
    - avoid triggers if you can, for example avoid watching movies with suggestive scenes, if you know it from advance,
    - cut your usage of internet, don't mindlessly scroll through FaceBook and Instagram, avoid dating sites,
    - developing relationship with real woman is one of the best thing you can do, sex is not a bad thing, the porn is, but avoid prostitutes,
    - get out of your comfort zone, try some new things, confront your fears, it will boost you up and you can gain some motivation to keep going with NoFap.

  13. Yes, for most people I highly doubt that 90 days is enough to be considered a reboot. It certainly wasn't enough for me.
On average, the intensity of my urges peaks on day 3 or 4. Then it either stays high for a couple days, or slowly declines. I'm sure you know by now that surviving the first week is the key to surviving the next 50 weeks.
On my highest streak this happened alarmingly fast. After about 3 weeks I no longer even had to try to avoid PMO - I just did it naturally.
You need to have a positive attitude and motivation every single day. I can't stress this enough - find something that motivates you. A life goal, a thought or feeling inside your head, a desire to change, a poem, song, or book, an important figure in your life. It could be anything, but you will certainly know when you have it. On my 93 day streak, this community was my motivation. Also, you need to have acceptance rather than shame. When you relapse, you should rejoice at the opportunity to start fresh rather than beat yourself down for failure. AND WRITE A JOURNAL. Seriously, keep a log of your thoughts and progress. It will help you focus on your goal of quitting PMO.

That's all I've got for now. Good luck.

Wow I didn't even check the date on this thread. Oh well, whoever is reading: my advice still applies.
