Hey everyone, I'm a 16 year old kid. I'm embarrassed to admit that I am pretty addicted to porn. I know a huge percentage of people my age are viewing porn regularly, but that does not in any way motivate me to do the same. I wanna quit porn for good. Currently hard mode (PMO) is too hard for me, I guess. So I'm just abstaining from porn right now. Is that good enough?

Hi Mariel. It is not called the NoFap challenge for nothing. It really is a challenge! Why do you think stopping masturbation is too hard for you?

@Mariel Dawes . great first step reaching out on this forum. Don't be embarrassed about porn addiction. It was a nasty trick the porn industry played on you to get you hooked. You can use the same science/methods they used to get you hooked to break your addiction.

lots of good info here and on the web that I think will help. 1st step is getting motivated to make a positive change in your life.

cant rem who posted this in another thread but prob a good idea for all teenagers (there are A LOT) in same exact situation as you to watch.

Let us know what is most difficult for you right now to handle the urges/cravings for porn... what is happening with you at that moment? where are you? what goes through your mind when urges/cravings start. maybe we can provide some ideas to help.

You're right but all these thoughts I have, it's just so tempting. Being an introvert, (and hence, socially awkward) masturbation is one of the few forms of dopamine release I get sitting at home.

ya. if that doesnt scare the shit out of you, nothing will. here is another ted talk. you should watch this one too.

If you are interested in some simple steps to help manage the urges/cravings to watch porn then I'd be glad to post some things that worked for me.

for the next few weeks as you break your porn addiction / pattern, I would strongly suggest you stop masturbating as well.

Once you get there you can reassess, but I would plan on quitting M for a while.

    That was me, lol. ;)
Well done on reaching a week without porn - great effort! I understand what you are saying. However, because you have bombarded your brain with massive surges of dopamine, it needs a period of abstinence to rebalance itself. You can do that by stopping the porn and yet still masturbating. But because masturbation also causes surges in dopamine, it will slow down your recovery. From the experience of others in this community, there is a strong correlation between porn and masturbation. That means that if you continue masturbating, a return to watching porn is likely. It is your choice, but I wanted you to understand the reasons why @Aware and I are saying to you that stopping masturbation would be in your best interests. Don't feel pressurised, just give it some thought and decide what you want to do. Very best wishes: IGY.

Welcome to NoFap, It is worth trying. Your challenge can become a successful streak, if you cling to abstaining from P, M, and consequently O. If you live in a country with a more or less open minded and democratic society, you don’t need to be afraid of relapses, but it’s better to avoid them. From my own experience I can tell you that it is best to learn how to not relapse if you use NoFap instead of wasting time using P-sites and other kinds of P. Reading from other Fapstronauts experiences can show you ways out of a common problem this great website was created for (or against). Just remember, we’re all in this fight together.

Great to see you in the forum Mariel! We're happy to have you and I'm especially happy to see someone make this choice in their teens. I learned about my addiction after turning 30 and I'm still fighting it. So you definitely have a headstart.

I would strongly encourage you to do hard mode as much as possible. It's a trifecta and what will you think about to MO? Past P videos? It'll be hard to rewire that way.

All the same, no judgment here bud. You do you and I'm sure you'll get more perspective on the forum!

    Welcome once again!

Actually I just imagine stuff with random girls from school while M. :p
But anyway, if that's what it takes to quit porn for good, I'm down.

Concentrate, it’s hard early on, but if you get a clear mindset of the virtues of abstinence, you’ll feel strength coming back to you. Thanx for your reply.

Yup, agreed with the random chicks. No judgment there. We all do that but best to avoid. It's hard but for the best.

Hi Mariel. Technically, sexual daydreaming or fantasising does not mean you have to reset your counter. But consider this:

Fantasies increase your desire to masturbate; see nakedness; or watch people having sex on your computer or phone. Therefore, it is best to stop fantasising. Get your mind away from sex.

    Good question! ;)

I am not suggesting it is easy. But the main word that answers your question is: distraction. If fantasising is a frequent problem, you really need something else visual that you can distract your imagination with. Exactly what that is will depend on your interests. Another means of achieving the same result is to occupy your mind with something analytical. Maybe stats (again regarding something you are interested in - sports perhaps). I like music and in particular song lyrics. When alone I can sing aloud, when in public, I take pity on my neighbours etc and sing in my head, lol. :p
