So I am beginning to think that I am suffering with addiction transfer. This is a process where changing one addictive behavior simply displaces it into another area of your life . In my case as I clamp down on the PMO, I'm beginning to really struggle to control my eating.

Does anybody have any experience with this, know of any good resources out there?

    Thanks

Hey man! I am struggling with the same: 3 years without smoking and I am back on it. Its just a mix of situations I have been finding hard to deal with in the past months: A family member injured and at the hospital, losing my job and the company owning me money, ending up a brief but intense relationship...

Whenever we are vulnerable our adictions can come back nock a the door. Its normal. I am actually just waiting for the moment to be tired of smoking again, because honestly I dont really enjoy it (like pmo) its just a bad coping mechanism. For now I am trying to notice all the horrible results of smoking and remembering why I quit it some years ago: Bad breath, halitosis, PIED, urges, smelly.... etc...

Let me see what resources do I have and Ill share it with you

Thanks! In my case it may even be the other way around, porn might actually be a displaced food addiction... Just to make things even more interesting...

I get it. Latelty I have been thinking its a chain, all conected. I think I started Masturbating and whatching porn to deal with my anxiety.. So my main problem is a displaced anxiety problem that I have been trying to cope with Porn, masturbation, smokes, alcohol...etc..

Yeah, I'm thinking there should be a unified theory of addiction, because they're all basically the same. It's really interesting to see how different people have come up with different ways of describing it Christians (rather unhelpfully) call it original sin, Buddhists (I think) talk about being chained to the wheel.. Sure there are other descriptions as well

  6. I totally agree with this and experience it as well. It's tough enough fighting one addiction, but when we have multiple that can pop back up seemingly out of nowhere, it's that much harder.

I know it sounds stupid/cheesy, but finding new "addictions" that are actually beneficial for your well-being/health is one way to sort of trick your brain and keep occupied. In the few weeks I've been doing PMO, I find myself being more consumed with re-learning how to play the piano, going on hikes, and focusing on my workouts. Take up a new hobby if you can think of anything, it will help.

I agree. It's not just that the porn is addictive, but I would argue that many of us are addictive "types". I'm slightly addicted to coming onto this site now - but that's not a problem - that's WAY better than the porn addiction craziness! And I'm someone who, in the past, has been addicted to some very positive things which have really progressed my life.

I think I might be doing something similar. But it's really good. Really supportive community and if I can help that to go on thriving then great

I think there must be lots of us who are coming on here multiple times a day, like an addiction transfer, but as I say, it's a positive one by comparison. Compare it to my normal addiction - hour after long hour of P and M, chatrooms, phone chats, mic, "all nighters" where I end at 5am in the morning and sleep for one hour before going off to work. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

Yeah, it's like we're rediscovering basic human interactions instead of all the bollocks (literally and figuratively)...

Yes - this is the first time in months I've communicated with people online without constant filthy talk and expletives. My conversations on here and totally positive and all about trying to improve our lives.

I had the same exact problem. I gained probably 7\8 kilos on nofap, i started eating like crazy, every kind of junk food.
Now i started again to eat healthy, and after 10 days the will to masturbate was way through the roof.

I don't know the solution, i don't know what you mean by good resources.

Yes. I lead a pretty isolated existence and the prospect of talking to sympathetic people instead of looking at dead pixels is really appealing. Loneliness is a massive trigger for a lot of us, and this is a really good start at building that social stuff up again

I mean has it been studied. Are there any good books on how to handle it, websites to check out, that kind of thing.

I don't think there's a precise way to handle this, or a guide to handle this...

It's just hard, there is no step to step guide to handle this...it's life...
