Hi guys, I am new to NoFap. I really need help to avoid my porn addiction and masturbation habit. It wastes a lot of my time and decreases my energy level. I am 28 Y/O and working as an engineer. I started masturbation when I was 14 as I can remember. I was trying a lot to find a solution to avoid this habit but I was failed. I don't know from where should I start. please help me to overcome this biggest challenge.

Hey man, first of all welcome, you're in the right place. My story is very similar to yours, started at 13 and I'm 29 now, the key to dealing with porn addiction in my opinion is to recognize that you're not actually addicted to porn, you're just addicted the the escapism that it provides, its an instant easy antidote for boredom, loneliness, depression, anxiety, you name it. The way to deal with it is to replace porn with a constructive and fulfilling replacement. Many go to the gym or pick up a hobby, I just made an effort to be around people as often as possible, relapses happen in private, so avoid being alone in a private place as much as possible, and every time your feeling the urge to pmo just come here and talk about it, its surprising how good these guys are at making you see sense in moments of weakness

Hi Mike1507, welcome here, and wishing you loads of strength and good luck on your journey to break with your PMO habits. As already suggested by Mattyjsy, replacing porn with other, more meaningful and constructive habits helps for many of us. As does actively engaging in this community. You can do it!

Write down your triggers, what causes you to watch porn, or masturbate. It's easier to avoid it, when you know what causes you to fall.

Then you can write how you are planning on preventing a future relapse.

If you really want to beat this thing you need a strong why, without it you have no motivation to do so

Hi Mike1507, from my point of view, this truely is a journey you are embarking on. There is no quick, sudden fix, but rather this is a long process of selfdiscovery and healing. This process is often hard, an can be painful. Don't be afraid to stumble along the road, as most if not all of us do. As long as you are committed towards your end goal and pick up the pieces and continue if you stumble, I am sure you can do it as well. As to advise: any positive habits you could include in your daily routine can be helpful. Personaly (as an example), I already had quite a lot of hobbies and already sported a lot, but I've recently picked up on mindfulness again, set a goal to welcome a number of newcomers to this forum each day, and picked up on a new hobby which I decided to give serious attention (drawing). These things give me a positive feeling, which helps me with staying away from porn. Other people have other habits, but the idea is similar (replace old negative habits with new positive ones). What does you daily routine look like? Any new positive habits you could introduce in your routine and life to help you stay away from porn?

Just keep doing what you're doing my man, keep yourself busy, as 3sm said, write down your triggers and get to know them, for me first thing in a morning when I'm tired is when I'm at my weakest and when most of my relapses happen, so to deal with it the second I wake up i force myself out of bed immediatly and go downstairs and sit in the kitchen with a coffee, knowing your weak moments like this helps you to deal with them and helps with urges massively. Congrats on 2 days, keep at it

Hey man! Congrats for embarking on this journey! You've taken a big and important step, that is start talking about this issue and recognizing it as something you need to change! As you go on, you'll get to know yourself better, know what are your weaknesses and triggers, things you need to avoid and change in your routine to keep you from those nocive habits!
I'm new here as well, so I can tell you that you're not alone!! We can do this! The feelings we get when we overcome each day, every urge we run away from, when we beat them, it is awesome! So count on us!
    Regards from Brazil!

Hey man! Hope you're still strong! Avoid things that could trigger you! And if the urges show up, remember that it is only your body feeling the lack of dopamine that comes from PMO. As you go on, your body and your mind will get used to the regular levels of dopamine that a person without PMO issues needs.
You control your life! You have the power! Show your body who is in control!
