Woke Up Paralyzed by Fear

I've been flatlined for a few weeks, so I'm still learning to deal with the emotions, the depression, the lack of energy, and lately the struggle to get a goods night sleep. I keep waking up hours before the alarm. I set my alarm for 5:30 last night, and wake up at about 4:30 this morning with what I can only describe as being paralyzed by fear. Trying to make sense of it I remember thinking to myself, I don't hear anything out of the ordinary, so I must be ok. It was like having the feeling of waking up to a nightmare without actually having the nightmare.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this and how often?

I'm hoping this was a one time event!

Yes, absolutely. This happens to me maybe once or twice a week. It's fascinating. What usually happens for me is; I fall asleep at a reasonable time (midnight-2am) then stay asleep for an hour or so. Then I will wake up (wide awake) in an instant with some terrible thought/s racing through my head. Usually it's a specific thought, fear or memory. When this happens, it seems as though I had never closed my eyes. It's like no time had passed and I am completely wide awake. It happened to me last night actually, but the fear wasn't so bad this time. It seems to have gotten better. This is MUCH more noticeable for me during nofap, it wasn't quite so bad before, although I have suffered from sleep paralysis before. That is a nasty can of worms but avoiding alcohol seems to almost entirely prevent sleep paralysis for me. I talked to my parents about the waking up thing (not about nofap (cringe)) and they both experience similar things, so maybe its genetic. The best thing you can do if you wake up in one of these spells is remember that you are in a safe place and that you are trying your best to live a positive and worthwhile life, then pet an animal if you have one or do something wholesome if you can't sleep. Also be careful what you put in your brain. If you do end up with sleep paralysis... Completely avoid alcohol and don't sleep on your back no matter what. That shit is really bad.

Thanks for the reply! I don't drink, but I have gotten used to sleeping on my back. I had no idea that could trigger it.

Yeah dude. I know that sleeping on your back can trigger sleep paralysis specifically, I don't know if it's the cause of what you were experiencing, I seem to get that no matter what I do.
