Hey guys, I've never had an issue with watching porn, in fact, I don't watch it much (every other week), However, I am addicted to masturbation. The material I use instead is pictures of girls from Facebook/Instagram, some of whom I know personally or kind of know or sometimes just your classic Instagram model. I guess I get a high from it as I fantasize about being with them, usually in a really romantic way. However, for many years, I've understood that what I am doing is messed up but I haven't been able to stop completely. It's been at the point where it's just routine. I'll open up Instagram and start beating my meat because I'm bored or something and I'm sick of it.
Deep down I've wanted to stop for ages. I regret it as soon as I climax but I'm weak. I tell myself frequently that I'll stop tomorrow and then tomorrow comes and I say the same thing. It seems like an endless cycle. I managed to go 75 days over summer and I felt great. However, I've been on and off ever since. At the moment I'm in a cycle where I'll abstain for a day then the next day I'll give in and end up thinking something like, "ah I've already failed for today, might as well whip a few more out and restart tomorrow." So I would say around 10 times a week.
It would be greatly appreciated if any fellow astronauts on here would be willing to share a thought on my situation to help clear my head a bit. For example, is my habit as bad as I think it is or is it worse, should I be concerned, am I weak, etc. Please be brutally honest of what you think as it might set me straight.
If anyone has experienced something similar or knows of a forum related then let me know because I'm inexperienced at navigating the forums.

I think its time to get rid of social media all together, Im totally against social media, I never liked it even when myspace first came out. My advice to get rid of social media all together, unless business related get rid of it. You arent missing out on anything. Put a blocker on it if you have to. Just keep improving on yourself and reduce the the time you spend on your phone.

What's your opinion on Snapchat? I feel like that's the only social I can't get rid of because that's how I keep in touch with all my friends.

Ehhh I dont like snapchat either. Im old fashioned, you either have to call or text me. But for your situation Id say keep it but limit the amount of time you spend on it because you know one thing leads to the next.

  6. I got rid of social media in 2015. Now I use the telephone and email to contact people. I also text them. I found social media overall makes me feel bad and increases the addiction. Also there is a good thread on the porn addiction section by William. In it, he says that if it turns you on, Daffy Duck is porn. I take this to mean that, although it is great that you are not hooked on god knows what sort of evil videos out there, the effect on the brain is similar. We can even get addicted to Daffy Duck.

thanks for sharing your experience. It helps me a ton to read these posts. Thank god there are people out there like you who will come on here and write.

That 'Daffy Duck' analogy is great! It definitely helps get my head around my situation better.

Turn it off. Turn it off. It got quiet did it? You know what? We wish the social media didn't exist in the first place. It's better to do old school meaning meeting people face to face or with the phone to call people. If social media didn't exist right now, then it would have made a lot easier for our mental health.
