After unsuccessful trying for 2 years secular methods how to get rid of pmo and to recover I decided to base my method only on God. Then for almost two years I read and privately studied how God's grace works and what to do to receive it. After that I started using the knowledge I gained. In brief - the base is for me prayer at the time of temptation ( hesitation, bad feelings, depression, boredom, arousal.....) and some sort of a promises given to God (not to watch p. or masturb. ) which were / are gradually prolonged after keeping the former ones plus special prayers to keep the actual promise. The absolute base has been a change of life according to God's word - without this, my method would be the next unsuccessful. Now I' ve got no problems with pmo, no urges, no time and energy consuming pmo sessions....

@Mr Eko Wow 6 years after 33 years of addiction is great!!

I understand from your signature that you are PM free, so O is still on? This is what I am aiming for, after a period of reset I want to get back to O with my loved one. Are you in a relationship with an SO?

I also find support in a higher power which I call the light and it's helpers, my spiritteam, supporting me in my quest and whom I frequently ask help since I discovered I can't do this on my own.

    Thanks for sharing.

Can you comment if quitting when you are older is easier - since you don't have so much sexual energy?

  8. So you sold your soul? :/

Yep, I made myself think it was okay to PMO which I was addicted to from my puberty. After an incident at home I found out I was fooling myself and since then have been without P, then without O and now also without M. Being without M has made me feel really confident and strong for the first time in my 60 years of living, so I guess my preoccupation with that was eventually what lead me away from the light I truly am and the real power I have within me.
I also noticed I need other people's help and assistance of my spiritteam to keep me on the right path since my mind is very good at finding excuses to do stuff that's not healthy for me. I guess that goes for many people if not all. Our mind is our greatest challenge. It leads us to believe we need something outside ourselves, while in fact Love Is All We Need. And Love is what we are.

  10. No offens, just saying the topic starter is an a very different path than you. He never used spiritteams etc.

I guess he studied the Bible, understood he is a sinner, who can not win without God's grace, and prayed alot.

First, we must clear what is recovery. For me recovery is changing of all one's life (mind and deeds coming after it). In brief the way from selfcenterdness to giving something to others (we could term it - love ). If we understand it so then there is a lot for me to improve myself although I can see some improvement during the past years. So I'm in recovery process which is never to stop.
But if we see recovery as a state without urges, without compulsion, obsession ... and without obsessive sexual thoughts, desires .... and acts of pmo then I could see myself as recovered and free. I gained my freedom back - Now I feel I've got a second life like someone after cancer.

when did it happen ? If we understand recovery like in the second definition I felt distinctly that I was set free after 10 or 16 days of my current sober period (six years ago) - I just felt that the power of healing God gave me during prayer at the time of temptation was strong and healing enough - in brief - this worked. the rest was an iron consequence - i simply had to and have to keep my promises given to God - so no way back and if - it would be a grave offence towards God - that I must evoid with all my power supported by God's power (in prayer).

No, O isn't on. Although I'm married we don't have sexual life because my wife has been afraid of next pregnancy (maybe next child) - we've got 3 children. So during the last six years I had few intercourses (2 or 3). Well, I lead a life of a bachelor or a teenager without a sex partner. What is your spiritteam?

In my opinion and feeling it's no easier because even if my sex drive is something lower but the law (power) of bad habit would be greater with each year. If I had no barriers I'd like to lead a rich sexual life including many prostitutes, partners, massive porn consume mixed with an ocean of mastur. My bad inclinations and desires haven't changed. I'm simply afraid of coming back to the cesspool and lose my life (like in the 33 year period), my family, my God....I have too much to lose ... and don't want to be a slave again. But sayng no to the inclinations is little effort for me, often almost no effort - it's rather a choice repeated every day, sometimes twice or seldom trice a day. Sometimes I make no choice for a couple of days because I don't remeber that I have or had a pmo problem.

My spiritteam is the name I gave to my spiritual helpers and in the jewish/christian tradition are known as angels. The spiritteams as I've learnt to see it, help us to become aware of our true nature which is connected to everything and everyone.

For me the higher power is not a person but more a creative force or energy that is in nature and in alle life including ourselves. It bears more resemblance to Brahman in the Hindu tradition, Tao in Taoism, or Emptyness (Śūnyatā) in Boeddhism. We are in essence one with this higher power and through it with all.
The word 'sin' in it's original Greek meaning was 'missing the target' and that's how I see it. When we sin we are doing something that doesn't help us to be who we really are. It doesn't lead to any hellish burning after this life, rather it does make us feel we are in hell in this life. Being addicted to PMO or any other substance or activity is what hell feels like as I can affirm from my 45 years of addiction. Being free of any addiction feels like paradise.

Don't you miss a sexual life? I find physical interaction with my loved on (not necessarily leading to sex) very connecting and I'd miss it very much.

Very interesting. Are you a member of a particular faith?

No. Every religion has something I'm attracted to and use. Christianity's prayers to a loving God and their emphasis on the connection between people; Taoist's Qigong and Tai Chi practices, Boeddhist meditation and Hindu Yoga and their focus on growth toward enlightenment by practice and our connection with the body; and also modern Nature-religious movements which go back to native American, Celtic and Germanic tribes and their focus on connecting with nature and the rituals they perform.

Also I'm attracted to some modern psychologist movements that use Emotional Body Work to free up energy and cope with trauma which I've used and has helped me a great deal. This has lead me to believe clearing the body from blockages is part of our growth in consciousness.

So, now I'm in the process of getting one of my biggest blockages out of the way, which is about my attitude towards the female and male and my addiction to PMO. In short as long as I can remember I've felt shameful about my masculinity and needed women's appreciation to feel worthwhile. From my teens PMO was a way to try to cope with all the unwelcome feelings of anger, sadness and anxiety.

My mind (the real 'devil') has played tricks on me by making me think I wasn't worthwhile and from that a whole range of destructive coping mechanism have come into being. I'm breaking this down seeking freedom inside as I want to grow towards living the love I believe we are at the deepest level.

Our thoughts / experience seems to be along similar lines. Removal of blocked energy seems to be something I'm going through just now. You wouldn't believe it unless you went through it.

I certainly see your point re different religions offering different things. Seems fairest to be open to all viewpoints
