  1. Only monks listen to that shit or how else can you meditate? XD!

  2. I have used guided meditation before and it seems to work. There are a lot of free guided meditations on YouTube.

  3. Also, Insight Timer is a good app that teaches you how to meditate. I would recommend trying it out.

  4. No it's really good. It might sound annoying at first but try it out for 5-10 minutes. The little beeps are timed to generate theta rhythms in your brain which helps puts you in a meditative state. When I started meditating years ago I would use this and have amazing meditation experiences. Think of it almost like a deprivation tank, close your eyes and sit and let the metronome wash over you, watch your thoughts as they come and go, but don't identify with them. Don't be the thinker of the thoughts, don't get caught up in them, just notice them come and go. You're using the sound in the same way you would concentrate on your breath, it's a focal point while you let go of the internal dialogue and just experience the moment. The longer you sit in presence, outside of the incessant chatter of the mind, the deeper your experience becomes. It takes time, but with practice your experience can become deeper each time. Because it's timed to generate theta rhythms, it's better than using another type of white noise to block whatever might be distracting you (loud music from the neighbors, noisy kids at home whatever), like just static. Classical music might be helpful for some people but for me my mind gets too caught up in the music. Experienced meditators can practice meditation just fine with all sorts of distractions, they accepts the external sounds as they happen and are able to practice presence regardless. But if things are noisy during my meditation time, I'd always prefer to block it out with the metronome.

  5. Believe it or not, taking the metaphorical hammer out of my hand (internet access) that I was using to beat myself over the head with (PMO) helped me heal. Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. :)

Day 4 down. A few urges today but nothing major. I'm using the journaling technique from the book I talked about yesterday (Reboot Regimen) and it is working wonders. Also trying to progressively work on my diet - just trying to cut down on sugar for now and once I've got that under my belt I'll try and cut out almost all processed food.

By the way, I would highly recommend cutting out social media or at least severely limiting it. It is both a massive timesuck and an absolute hotbed for triggers - two very compelling reasons to cut down at least whilst rebooting.

  8. Thanks for changing my little knowing viewpoint, too many times we judge things we have no idea about. Like one could judge... programming is hard and needs much of math, but in reality only need plus and minus etc you got my point.

  9. Haven't used social media almost never. The only reason one should go to social media is for business opportunities. Rest is for crap use.

  10. This might be trigger point for me tho, since when I was addict(not saying im not), I listened lot of audio visual porn. It releases even more dopamine, than the normal porn, since you would have these files where you would be but into meditative state, where everything is more sensitive, even did it without hands.

Day 4 (yep always different time zones etc).

This has been pretty easy day. I was outdoor with my friends and soon just going to watch some football from tv. Stay strong everyone. No one has relapsed? That sounds great if it is true.

  12. Sure, it's good to know your triggers and avoid them at all costs. I don't think meditating would become a trigger in and of itself though. It may become a catalyst from which you'll confront some of the reasons of your addiction, but this can be a great opportunity to heal.

  13. Day 3 is in the books. Exercised a lot today. Feeling sleepy because of that, which is good :)

I know what @sonic123rainbow means. It might sound crazy but if you were into hypno porn like I was stuff like this can remind you of it: that sort of porn was all about getting you in a relaxed trance like state (real or imagined) and although this is definitely a constructive practice it could be a heavy environmental trigger because it's very similar. That said I think it's important to move past our triggers so we can grow, maybe in time gradually re-exposing yourself to the things that previously triggered you.

  15. I'm not familiar with hypno porn, so I'm going to refrain from offering any advice on this topic. I'm tempted to ask or look it up but I'm worried about my own triggers atm. It's definitely a good idea to avoid potential triggers, particularly early on in a streak, I think.

I think of meditation as one of the cornerstones of good health, alongside good hygiene, good nutrition, and regular exercise. It's the one area that I'm currently neglecting the most and this thread is actually helping me realize that it's important to introduce back into my life so I'm grateful about that.

This seems like a smart way of going about it. Slowly disassociating non-P related things from past bad habits over time so that you can use helpful tools for your overall health.

  16. Yes. At time I will start to maybe meditate with sound, but I like the normal zen/zazen meditation more than the sound induced meditation.

  17. Exactly I think is some bit of a fake meditation, when it's sound induced, I think one of the points of medidation is to life in boredom. Being good with boredom is really important, also after meditation session you have such a good feeling, and it alse increases grey matter in brain.
