One Year of No P and No M

Discussion in 'Success Stories' started by Tao Jones, Sep 15, 2019.

  1. Sept-12 marks one year that I have abstained from P and M. In that period, I have experienced O only with my wife. I have also learned a tremendous amount about this way of life. I have had lengthy streaks in the past, but I have always returned to PMO. This time, I believe I know what I need to do in order to remain free for the rest of my life, and that is what I intend to do -- one day at a time.

My "No-PMO" commitments have crystallized around the following:
    • I will not choose to view P in any form. I will never seek it out.
    • I will not choose to view a P-sub in any form. I will never seek these out. A P-sub for me is anything that is sexually arousing aside from the physical and engaged presence of my wife.
    • I will not M or touch myself sexually in any way whatsoever apart from the physical and engaged presence of my wife.
    • I will not consciously seek out the experience of O apart from the physical and engaged presence of my wife.
    • I will not entertain any unhelpful thought, especially a lustful or sexual one. The moment I am aware of such a thought, I will run it through the FREEdom process and replace the lie of it with the Truth of my higher power, Jesus Christ. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zqVL11JjWICOHCRUDmqXr9TNC_gpb6yhRF1hKp-fxcc/edit
    • I will not engage in idle browsing of the Internet of any kind or on any platform. In the past, this practice has never ended well for me.
    • I will not engage in any kind of sexual pleasure "hunting" behavior. When my wife and I enjoy this intimacy together, it is a great gift. It is enough, and I do not need anything more or different in order to be completely sexually fulfilled. Anything beyond this is simply my addict brain looking for a thrill and is not okay.
    • I will maintain a network of accountability partners (APs) with which I will continue to check in on a daily basis to report how I am doing in this area and to provide mutual encouragement and support to them. (To all those who have served or are currently serving me in this capacity, you have my undying thanks. You will never know how much a role you have played in the transformation of my life.)
    • I will continue to make use of software tools to keep me accountable online and to prevent myself from stumbling upon unhelpful imagery on any of my electronic devices. This includes my accountability software of choice, Accountable2You, which is installed on all devices to which I have access.
    • I will make myself available to the best of my ability to assist anyone who desires to break free from the plague of PMO. When I enter into an accountability partnership with someone, I will perform my duties as a helpful, encouraging, and engaged partner on a daily basis and with my best effort. Good APs are hard to find, and I will be the best one I know how to be.
These commitments work to reinforce one another. As I adhere to them day-by-day, I see how they work together for not only my own overall good, but for the good of the communities in which I am engaged, as well. By leaving behind PMO for this past year, every relationship in my life has improved, including the one I have with myself!

I am just a regular guy. I finally got to the end of my rope with PMO and committed to do whatever it takes to get free and stay free. It is a commitment -- it takes time, focus, and energy each and every day to stay vigilant to safeguard myself against my tendency to do the wrong thing. I have fallen before, and I very well may fall again. However, I am convinced that if I honor the commitments that I have outlined above, I will find myself on a firm foundation, able to remain out of the swamp of PMO, and possibly of some use in helping others to do the same.

May God continue to show mercy to all of us as we seek out the new kind of Life he has said is possible and available to us, even right now (2 Corinthians 5:17). May we find ourselves moving from "glory to glory" (2 Corinthians 3:18) as we travel further up and further into the Kingdom of Heaven. May we never grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). If we stay on the Way that leads to Life (John 14:6), our lives can be good today, better tomorrow, and unimaginably wonderful in the future.

    Onward! :)

Great job buddy. It was a good read. I am sure you will never relapse again if you just stick to your commitments and what made you successful in the first place. Keep pushing!

Taking it one day at a time is a really strong way of dealing with pmo.

My husband liked this so much he asked me to forward it to him. I screenshot it, is that allowed? I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be. But I thought I’d let you know how much he liked what you had written.

  13. Congratulations TAO!

  14. 100% okay with me. Precisely why I shared it. Those bullet points have been hard won. If they help anyone else find freedom more quickly than I did or are any help to anyone whatsoever, then I can see how God is working good out of the terrible mess I had gotten myself into. He is indeed our light and our salvation! :)

  18. Congratulations on your progress!

I feel the above is the kind of commitment I'd need to make to deal properly with SSA and emotional shortcomings, but for some reason it seems very difficult to create a jump-off point in my mind and life. Just thought I'd mention this.
