Day 1 - 34 Year Old Catholic-Convert PMO Addict

    What’s Up Guys?

    Was a miracle I re-found this place. I’ve been struggling with the PMO addiction since I was 14. A real typical millennial. Since getting the dial-up as a birthday present I’ve had porn at my fingertips since I could remember and the rest was history. It’s gotten progressively worse since then.

    For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been able to refrain from watching porn for no longer than 5-7 days and MO for like 6-7 days. If I can reach a month free of PMO for 30 days that’d be HUGE or even 14 days free of MO I’d be ecstatic!

    I realize this awful habit I’ve developed is engrained deep AF in my neurology and will likely take a long time to rework; it’s not a free-pass to screw off but I have to be realistic in a sense.

    Long story short, I’ve also battled with severe depression, alcoholism and drug addiction since my break up 10 years ago which just spiraled the porn and PMO addiction and isolation into a complete SHIT show which has taken me into the bowels of absolute hell and back since 2010.

    Since then I’ve been in rehab 4 times, been a total slag, found myself acting out sexually just for validation and to fill other emotional needs, missed work and again, found myself repeatedly turning to the PMO hellhole mixed in with booze and drugs and isolation.

    I’ve always identified as a Christian - and have NO QUALMS with anyone here’s religious beliefs or lack therefore - but recently converted to Catholicism after contemplating it for nearly two decades. It’s been a beautiful and incredible journey. And in alignment with my faith I’m trying to abstain from masturbation, sex and pornography entirely - full stop.

    I realize that for some - married, partnered, etc. - the principles (again, religious, non or otherwise) will vary and that’s completely fine. But any brotherly support, advice and encouragement is greatly appreciated.

    Hi welcome to NoFap brother. You've come to the right place. I'd say take it slow in the beginning, don't try to do too much all at once. Focus on your recovery first and foremost. I see you are doing a good job on no PMO so far. Try as best you can to avoid triggers. This will impede your progress. Its important to keep your urges and temptations at a minimum. Write down the goals you want to achieve so you can look back at this when you are feeling the urge. Also I would recommend watching the video The Great Porn Experiment Ted Talk by Gary Wilson. Must watch in my opinion. I wish you all the best on your recovery.

    St. Joseph kept it in his pants his whole life for the perpetual virgin Mary so I think he knows a thing or two about NoFap. Let him be your intercessor in prayer.
