The Planning Challenge

Discussion in 'Events & Challenges' started by Deleted Account, Jan 30, 2020.

  1. It says something that my no MO streak ended, and I totally forgot about planning my day. I then proceeded to have an almighty moodswing, be late for work, etc. But I'm not sure whether MO was the problem, or whether not MO-ing for so long was the problem. Doing semen retention is like playing with fire, it seems.

Interesting. Fwiw, my own personal experience is that M doesn't pose a problem. If I feel like there's too much semen built up, and I can't have sex with my wife, I M and no problems seem to come of it. For me, personally, it's online porn that's the problem. If I'm relying on my imagination, M isn't tempting enough for me to do it to excess; it will be once every few days and it won't last all that long--I actually try to finish rather than make it last. But if I'm watching online porn, I can M multiple times every day and each time I might extend it longer than necessary. It's the variety available, the website architecture with the thumbnails, etc. Again, this is just my experience.

I've got a new internet problem now: I've become obsessed with the US elections and can't stop reading about them. It's reducing my productivity and hurting my mental health. I think it's even hurting my physical health--my eyes feel strained from looking at screens too much without breaks. I've been aware of the problem for months (before the election, I was doing the same thing with covid-19). I've tried a few small things but need something new. A friend just emailed me about pairing up with personal accountability partners. I'm excited to give this a try.

  3. The best thing that could have happened to me re. mental health, did happen: my work radio broke a couple of weeks into the Covid-19 outbreak. It made a huge difference. :)

I think it was just the shock of going from 60+ days of build-up, which had definite psycho-spiritual effects, to dumping myself back down to nothing. I'm wary of doing that again - it felt dangerous.

I feel addicted to screens, too. I've consciously tried to get away from them, but it's harder than one might think. I notice I was less able to put my i-phone down than a slightly more basic Nokia, which was interesting. Am now on a mostly-dumb phone, which elimiates the problem during the day, at least.

Good luck with the accountability partnering I hope that works out well for you!

Forgot to plan again today, so thats +2, -2 for 7...

Was off to a good start yesterday, but a friend called and we had a long conversation that knocked me off track. I would have liked to have stuck to my schedule but, on the other hand, the pandemic has really rocked my social life so I'm going to go easy on myself for having a long talk with a friend. Getting knocked off track by that is a lot better than getting knocked off track by the internet (Twitter, YouTube, porn, etc.).

  7. I'm finding the same. I think I was 4/7 all told last week, but even when I missed out, I started to think, "Hmm - if I'd planned the day, there's a good chance I would have done 'x', instead of forgetting..."

I've planned today and tomorrow, so 2/7 for the new week!

These forums just haven't been working for me lately. Like, at all. I'm going to take some time away from them. Maybe try tweaking my goals. I may come back and try again in the future.
