(I think that) NoFap is bollocks

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Deleted Account, Dec 27, 2019.

  1. It is all about pornography addiction and recovering from it.

Pornography addiction exists, and that is scientifically proven fact. NoFap is a tool which helps you when you are recovering from that addiction. It is as simple as that.

  2. This topic is a waste of time as watching porn. I don't how where you guys find a time to argue about such things as nofap and porn addiction. Everyone chooses his own way only experiencing his life, not from academic arguments from a world where telling the truth and skeptical opinion about various things can for a Nobel laureate cost a condemnation.

  3. "I am not an idiot. I don't believe everything I hear or read.
That's why I'm skeptical about NoFap as a whole.
Because to me it seems to be filled with lies occasionally mixed with a bit of truth."

    -----

We could start with the bit of truth you found and work out what made you accept it as true. Otherwise, it seems you're just indulging in what's known (aptly), in academic philosophy, as 'boring scepticism'.

I feel the same about NoFap.
People in this community are making some pseudoscientific statements to make people think that NoFap can make people stronger, taller, etc; such as with the Testosterone myth. That gives attention for NoFap and even motivation people to join the NoFap, but nothing more.

Personally I joined NoFap because I'm addicted, yes addicted and I'm not a "compulsive masturbator" as many people like to say.

For evidence on masturbation addiction,I link to a study that shows how a opioid antagonist (naloxone) show a decreased pleasure from sex. (https://doi.org/10.1001/archpsyc.1977.01770220061006 the link can be accessed with http://sci-hub.tw but it's illegal because of copyright laws. If you accessed the document, look at table 2, on page 2).
Opioid antagonists block endorphins (that are generated while masturbating and/or orgasming) from binding to opioid receptors and creating the Euphoria. Other substances that bind to opioid receptors (opioid agonists) are powerful drugs such as Morphine, Heroin and Oxycodone. It's documented that those drugs cause psychical addiction (mainly because of the Euphoria) and physical addiction (because of hypersensitivity to noradrenaline). I would hypothesize that withdrawals from PMO can be as severe as from Codeine or Morphine without the physical withdrawals that are associated with long term use of opioids.

Now here's a thing with addiction. All people are different, but a PMO addiction interferes with my life. I use my time to masturbate and then feel sad and tired, instead of studying or doing something else. Many say that is better to meet a psychiatrist, but the problem is that masturbation addiction is not classified in ICD-11 and therefore it can not be treated by professionals. Because masturbation addiction is not classified in ICD-11, there are no current studies for drugs that can be used to treat the addiction.

Yes! Opioid antagonists are being studied for use in opioid, alcohol and sex addiction with promising results.

It´s hilarious reading the OP´s post, considering he wastes his time on this website and he doesn´t believe it. You´ve got bigger problems than porn buddy.

  9. He. He he he.
I won't comment that because I am not drunk enough.

Run half as many kilometres as I can and then talk to me about "being one of the greats".
Make half as much money as I made and then talk to me about "being one of the greats".

The rest of it is just too much for me to handle. I think I will pretend not to have read it.

Anyway. I have been on this forum once in a while because I found it to be a fascinating place but it's been a while and it seems there is not evidence at all as to why P, M, or O would be bad for you.
All of that seems to be subjective.
Indeed, even the "about" subpage makes it clear it is not against masturbation because that would be plain ridiculous. It is against porn for some reasons not clear to me, though if the sex taboo disappeared and people were less judgemental and more logical about it then calling porn a "drug" would not be popular and the owners wouldn't call it as such. But as long it is taboo for most people, they will say what is most popular.

I am not Mr. I Know Everything so I might be wrong. However, at this point there is no hard evidence to support most of the claims that can be found here. Some of the "studies" have found some potential links between A and B, but that's hardly proof of anything. It is, at most, a sign that the thing needs further research.

    Not convinced personally.
It is more like religion meaning people have their own opinions and that's just that. Which is fine.
I only don't agree with people calling some online surveys "research", because that is nonsense.

So. There was a heated debate from time to time but it seems like there is no proof that anything is detrimental to one's health unless done in excess.
Other than that, nothing new has been discovered.
I am just going to leave as I don't see a point in staying any longer.

  10. So I have a question for you. If someone masturbates to the point where they damage their penis and can no longer perform sexually with women, what course of action do you think would remediate that situation?

  11. Give it a rest? Don't make the same mistake more than once?

  12. Me? If you want do dodge, that's fine, I won't force you to answer my simple question.

I like the original post and its scepticism. The problem I see is it will take a lot of time before we even get a proper research about just few of these questions because we don't even get enough of good research about food (and that's a way bigger problem).
I am also sceptical but I don't need research to find out. I simply started NoFap to see if there are any improvements or positive changes in my life and if they were due to NoFap or if there could be a different reason.
Right now I see it like a possible solution to a deeper problem that people may have. It's the same with exercises, learning etc. You improve yourself and build your self-esteem. It helps. Maybe that's an easy way to build it but if you can't do it in a different way it might be the only way to start the snowball of self improvements.

  14. No, that was the answer.
Q: How should I, a person who damaged his penis, proceed?
    A: Give it a rest.
How is that dodging? It is a simple answer.

I tried it myself. Didn't see any change other than remaining horny.

  15. Oh ok. So in your eyes, what difference do you see between "giving [masturbation] a rest" and No[t]Fap[ping]? It's in the name of NoFap. The purpose of quitting masturbation is to stop the damage caused by masturbation and attempt to reverse it. Obviously if you don't have a problem with masturbation, then you don't need NoFap. As a personal testimony to the effectiveness of NoFap, I have experienced similar damages to the ones I described in my example, proceeded with NoFap for the recommended reboot time, and seen a reversal of those damages. Your prescription for people who masturbate to the point of damage literally coincides with that of NoFap.

How long? I didn't even finish 60 days yet but I've learnt a lot about myself. I don't want to make my mind yet but I see your point here. I wish to get to 90 days and then I think I'll have some thought and arguments to talk about.
My question also is: Do you only expect research or the answer to "Does it work and if it does then in what it helps?"

  17. Give it a rest =/= stop it completely.
Unless need be. Because you shouldn't do it if something hurts.
If you can do it gently and it doesn't hurt then I see no reason not to do it. If it does hurt no matter what you do, stop completely.
    It's a common sense thing.
+ NoFap is kind of biased about certain things, while what I would advise is to just chill out until it gets better, and then be more careful in the future.
No I didn't do 60 days. I don't see the point of doing that for so long.
It's like vegetarianism: people claim that it's better than eating both plant and animal foods. Technically I could give it a go for say 60 days, but what is the point? If there are any results of not eating meat then they will be noticeable after a week. Or earlier. If something works you will see instant results.
However, as there is a problem with that kind of approach as you can't get every essential nutrient by not eating meat, + it depletes you of energy and you basically have to go to great lengths to set up a new diet, it just makes little sense to do that.
And that's outside of the fact that research is lacking and there is no evidence that vegetarianism > omnivorism (or whatever it's called).
Also also, people seem to be vegetarians partly because they look on eating meat as a moral issue. And because I do not, it makes even less sense for me to become one.

NoFap is similar - no research, no benefits, nothing really.
It is mostly for people thinking that PMO is a moral issue. I think so because that's the reason most people want to quit it so desperately.
Some people believe that PMO in fact makes you a loser. Yet another reason to quit.
Other than that though? Nothing really springs to my mind.

They like to compare PM to smoking even though smoking is basically inhaling poisonous gases that have immediate effects on the body as well as short and long-term side effects, while PM doesn't carry any of that with it.

I didn't try it for that long because I have no reasons to.

And what did I expect? I expected something. Anything. But it didn't amount to much in the end.

I wouldn't' say pictures cause PIED (unless you make the same mistake I have made and create a slideshow of a new picture every 7 seconds!!).

I'm close to returning to PMO but only to the odd picture here and there. Frankly me depriving myself of any sexual stimuli for the last three years or so is almost inhumane! There is no way our ancestors lived without any some sort of sexual stimulation every now and then! Even though for me it's artificial sexual stimuli, it's still better than been in monk mode for sooo long (as long as I don't escalate it to Clips or slideshows).

Also, I might return to PMO as I'm fed up of the excess Testosterone, it's converting to estrogen and making my butt grow everyday! I had no problem with the gym and with my body shape in my PMO days.

I'll be waiting until around mid august before starting to go back to PMO - as this will mark exactly three years PMO free.

Does anyone here still not use pictures to let off some steam occasionally?

  20. I'm not dumb enough to waste my time on people whose goal is to clearly feel special by having different opinions just for the sake of it.

You think NoFap is bullshit, fine, but you are on the wrong site for saying that man.
