It annoys the fuck out of me. This terrible shit I'm dealing with and people put their fingers in their ears and say that it's nothing. Porn addicts share every trait as substance addicts but people won't admit it.

Yep, I'm having the same problem. Gambling, porn and other things can be behavioural addictions - they've all got the potential to f*ck you up.

At least most people on this site get it. Stick with it dude!

I agree that if one is recognized the other should too. People in large part don't want to believe in addiction bc then it lets them off the hook from a morality stand point. So if I go out and drink alcohol and something bad happens, I can't blame it on addiction bc then there's no responsibility for anything I do.

I'm a gambler not in recovery so its interesting that there are professional gamblers out there who don't have a problem. I'm not one of them, yet, but to say that a person isn't responsible for the financial decisions they make is a bit crazy. Which is why gambling is made illegal in most places(except where I do it, business and the stock market) as are drugs.

What's really crazy is how drug sales and possession are both illegal. How can you blame the drug dealer if the person consuming is making a choice to do so? How can you blame the addict if the dealer is the one supplying him and he doesn't have a choice?

I think because it does not harm health, and does not lead to loss of money. Although on the other hand gambling also does not always require money, such as playing in a casino with bonuses, etc.., as described here. Therefore in the given situation the first and second "addiction" brings to the person only pleasure.

Only pleasure? Porn fucked up my thought process and it doesn't harm health? It does, it does.

It very much does harm your health. Check out the threads on physical effects, or post acute withdrawal syndrome.

It annoys me too! Like how the fuck is gambling recognized but having a huge load of dopamine go through your system and after a while you depend on it not recognized, I bet it's just the fact that almost everyone pmos and just acts like it's something they like and not an actual fucking addictions

Yeah but it has the potential to... Get this.... :

    Ruin marriages and relationships

    Ruin peoples future

    Waste people's time and energy

Cause money loss for some people either by buying ph premium or going to prostitute places (idk what they're cuz I'm 14) but the main idea is, while it may not cause a huge damage to health, it's still harmful

  11. If you want to know why porn addiction isn't recognized, why don't you do some research instead of making wild assumptions?

  12. Because if you read about the topic in peer-reviewed literature you will understand why the proposed definitions of porn addiction do not meet the criteria for behavioral addictions.

That is one opinion, Wikipedia says that it's an addiction but DSM-5 doesn't classify it as an addiction, besides why are you here?.. your addicted to porn, not deeply engaged in naked human being in front of a camera

  15. I am here for the reason you think I am here, but I just prefer to be careful with my terminology. At the end of the day, I just care about fixing myself, no matter how my problem is classified medically.

Yeah this really annoys me to. It's basically the exact same thing that's happening in the brain that's causing the gambler to be addicted to gambling as what's causing the porn addict to be addicted to porn.

I'd actually argue that high speed internet porn addiction is likely more powerful than gambling addiction, in terms of how powerful it is in the brain, in terms of how much dopamine and other pleasure neurotransmitters, chemicals are released in the brain.

The thing that really annoys me is everyone wants to help someone who is seriously addicted to gambling. This is recognised as a serious problem. Doctors would try to help someone who is seriously addicted to gambling. The gambling addicts family members would do everything in their power to support them and help them stop gambling. The same goes for someone who is addicted to alcohol or even other drugs.

Yet with porn addiction it's seen as no big deal. It's almost seen as if you think you have a problem with it then just stop doing it. Like a lot of people see it as just don't go on it.

I honestly don't think a lot of people have any idea how addictive high speed internet porn can be.

It is a serious addiction just like gambling. Like I said I'd actually argue it's an even more powerful addiction than gambling.

Yet it is seen as no big deal.

    Two thoughts on this:

    1) Lots of people use porn, but are in denial - few people are prepared to look at that side of their lives, much less talk about it. I've talked to several friends about this, briefly, and they've all clammed up pretty quick, even though I know they are regular porn users (probably a lot more than me at this point).

    2) Porn use, and sex addiction etc involve other people - ie someone being photographed, videoed or physically touched by the addict. IMHO this adds a massive "ick" factor that just isn't there with other addictions.

Having said that, gambling can pretty much ruin your life. I knew someone who killed himself because of the massive debts he ran up, and I know someone else who had to start his life again from scratch in his late 30's for similar reasons.

    Cognitive addictions my friends!
