When I get enough money to buy off the house and senate I am going to destroy the porn industry by making it illegal similar to other destructive drugs.

Wow, dojistar: may I ask you how will you put down the porn industry (P.S.: you mean only the American porn industry, right)?

    Good luck!

p.s. be careful reading about the 'dark side of porn' etc. online, you may think you are doing God's work, but that old addiction is using it as an excuse to sneak back in!

Destroying the porn industry is a noble pursuit! But it's a lofty ambition, considering how widespread it is even in countries where it is illegal/heavily restricted. Some other options:

    1) A massive PR campaign to promote porn-free lifestyles, make it socially unacceptable to the average person. Especially emphasise it's addictive nature, so that curious just one look isn't worth it as it may lead to a lifetime of misery. The NoFap is already doing this of course!

    2) Pressure on internet service providers to move to an 'opt in' model, so that you have to ask special permission and/or pay more in order to access pornographic sites. Porn producers are pressured into co-operating with this measure, or else face prosecution for obscenity (as publishing porn on the unrestricted part of the internet is akin to marketing it to children).

We can't destroy an industry. We still haven't been able to destroy the tobacco industry or the alcohol industry. We can't change people's behavior. You'll only end up wasting your time and effort. All we can do is change ourselves.

The only pragmatic thing, in my opinion, that can be done is spread awareness about it in schools, colleges, work place. Many work places have some training sessions or they call some motivational speaker. Like how depression is now spoken about. Likewise even pornography addiction can be spoken about.

This is a ridiculous pursuit, and would leave society in maybe a worst position than having it legalized. The only problem with porn is that the negative affects aren't known to people the same way the negative affects of alcohol and nicotine are widely know in our world.

To be honest, I love porn, I love porn so god damn much, but its also destroyed my life and I partly let it, personal accountability goes a long way.

Also who the hell are you going to throw in jail? Everybody on this site when they relapse? How about yourself, what about when you relapse? Are you gonna turn yourself in as a senator?

Porn should be much more regulated than it is today to protect children from porn addiction, and information about porn use should be transparent to adults if they decide to indulge in it. But making it illegal would make a recovering addict like me a criminal which would put more of a stigma and hardship on a person recovering from addiction.

  14. This needed to be said. Thank you. Sadly, rational opinions like this are not always welcome on this site.

I have no moral qualms with porn, their is nothing inherently wrong with porn in itself. Porn goes bad when you have an unhealthy relationship with it, and unfortunately with todays access and ease of getting porn, its very hard not to become addicted and have it affect your life in a negative way.

But getting addicted too porn is a two way street, you have to let it in your life, and let it get out of control, it's up to you wheather you let this happen or not.

It makes no sense that people want to make porn illegal or place all the blame on it.

Ya, I think people are just angry and upset that they have this addiction, and they want to place blame on somebody or something, so they choose the thing they are addicted too, to be the culprit.

We are at a weird stage with porn addiction in society because the medical community refuses to acknowledge that it exist, but that might only be because internet porn addiction is such a new phenomenon that science hasn't caught up yet. So we truly are at a disadvantage when it comes to that.

  20. Non-existent benefits? How about pleasure and entertainment? Are you really going to take a moral authoritarian approach to this? Why not just ban all recreational drugs? How about video games? There is so much bias in your statement.
