Seriously considering to quit SMs 90% bullshit happens on them takes a lot of time and energy which I think is completely wasted. but there isn't any other option to communicate with people, sitting in my room alone can also take a toll on my mental health.

    Any suggestion are welcome.

  2. Nothing good happens because of social media it was created to destroy people. You waste the most important thing you have : time, energy and well-being.

You should, it'll save you alot of energy, for me it was fb and insta, both were a waste of time, fb the drama queens and insta is about all models and followers, which i didnt need, and you can use whatsapp and qoura and, mayebe snap too but those are imo better than those both :)

  4. I only use YouTube. The other sites for me are a complete waste of time. Social Media makes you envious, jealous, lonely, depressed, and addicted. Nothing good comes from that.

  5. When you do quit, the first thing you will notice is how much free time you will have. So, in my opinion, quitting can be very beneficial for your health and time.

  6. Don't quit social media, just amp up your meditation so that you can be more aware as to when you use it. That's what I plan on doing. If it's interfering with your ability to socialise, then set aside a few days of the week to go out and meet people. If you don't want to do that, then reward yourself with a bar of dark chocolate afterwards. If you're looking at girls, then again, be mindful of the consequences that you'll experience after MOing. That always does it for me.

If you really want to recover, then running from your problems isn't gonna change anything. You've got to build on your self-awareness so that you can face your triggers head on and overcome them. You've got to have tenacity. Social media helps us stay connected. By the time this message is up (yes, even this is a social media website), someone in Australia will see it. You're basically cutting off the rest of the planet, secluding yourself to whatever part of the world you're from. Everyone on here knows what happens when they're alone. There's a whole lonliness forum dedicated to it on this platform.

Some of the most constructive ideas have been gained on this platform. I remember writing a post awhile ago called "nice guys can exist on NoFap". I was completely out of touch with myself then. Some guys commented on how melodramatic I was being, which completely knocked me out of the negative spiral of thinking and analysing that I was in.

A good way to be mindful of your use is to set a goal for yourself. If you go on social media for 6 hours a day, then cut down by ten minutes each day. Or you can schedule your day like this: I've had a cold shower, time to reward myself by checking my Twitter feed for ten minutes. Then you can set a timer for ten minutes.

Like I said, meditating will bring you that self-awareness. Once you start doing that, you'll start making associations and connections between social media and other goings-on in your life. Maybe you have a toxic relationship with a family member and you're using social media and PMO to escape from that. Or maybe you've recently gone through a bad break-up. Then you will start to ask yourself if what you're doing comes from a place of love or self-hatred. If it comes from a place of self-hatred, you will put your phone down and go for a jog (or do something else that you consider to be productive).

Social media is full of cr*p. You should quit it, clear and simple. You will be out of all the worries and judgement coming from it, your confidence will rise, protected from urges coming from different pictures and more. Also, it is a total waste of time that can be wasted on self improvement.

  8. It depends how you use it. I only really have social media to stay in contact with my friends and for work (to take shifts and offer my shifts to others). I hate to admit it, but I do sometimes find myself wasting time viewing peoples stories and scrolling through posts that sometimes make me feel depressed/jealous. In my opinion, only use social media if you really really have to. Believe me, if my friends all agreed to just call/text/group text/group call each other whenever we wanted to hangout, I would uninstall snapchat and instagram immedietely (except for facebook because I need that shit for work lol).

  9. Quit this shit forever.

It doesn't bring anything positive, you waste your time and your energy. What's the point?

Delete all this crap and go live life mindfully.

I quit social media a few years ago. It has been truly one of the best things I have ever done. I still have friends, I still socialize. I have lost nothing. I have gained more time, greater peace, control over what I bring into my mind, a reduction in anger, and many more benefits. If you are considering it, I say jump in with two feet. Make a realistic goal and then reassess.

One of the great dangers with social media is that we expose ourselves to content that we may not be ready for. We have limited, if any, control over what shows up. If you realize this is affecting you negatively, take charge of your life. You can do it. The world will tell you its a necessity. I have no social media accounts, I don't have a smart phone, I am a 34 year old male with 5 years+ of sobriety, a wonderful family, and happier than I have ever been.

    Thanks for all the suggestion.
I have decided that I will stop using SMs for the duration of my reboot(66 days), and then will decide that I should completely shut this off or not.:emoji_muscle:

Instagram is highly sexual and twitter literally allows porn and nudity so to avoid slip-ups alone you should delete them. Additionally they take a toll on your mental health.

  15. It depends on you bro. On day 1 I was surfing through social medias. But on day 20, I have completely deleted social medias like whatsapp, fb and specially Instagram. I started feeling that these are sh*t. Of course they are useful but its upto you how you use it. For me, Instagram triggers the most. Social medias are just time wasting. My suggestion would be - stay away from your device. If you are on your device then search something creative and things which you can learn. If you want to contact a person just call or mssg them. You can use whatsapp but pick your people carefully. Avoid instagram fb and Twitter. Stick to your journey .

  16. Damn. This post really hit me. I’m on Social Media a lot, including YouTube. I have been idolizing people who I don’t know in person for the longest time. I only use YouTube for music. But I think I’ll find other avenues for music besides social networking/YouTube. My mental health is more important than personal pleasure.

  18. I think once you delete social media, you ask yourself why you were even on it in the first place. Its a waist of time. Plenty of other ways to keep in touch with people.

I understand the frustration of losing "friends" if you stop using social media, but you need to consider what value does having friends who only interact with you via things like facebook or instagram add to your life? Work towards migrating relationships towards text messages or WhatsApp when you feel comfortable using social media again. If these friends are worth it they'll migrate to those platforms, if not then you're not your friends.

I feel much better prepared to tackle my problems with PMO, and other issues, when I am free from social media and excessive use of the internet.

I'm also cutting down on reading news sites and listening to radio phone-ins. There is nothing positive about them - they're designed to make people feel angry and hopeless.
