This is always a question in my mind. What do you think about it?Why do people rape?In present scenario we can see rape and sexual abuse has dramatically increased in almost every countries.
There has incidents of small girls been abused by their brothers and friends even.
As humans are intellectual beings who can distinguish things what can be the reason for such a brutal thing?Do you think PORN has some involvement in this psycologically?

  2. Porn might be involved but I think the problem goes back to the sexual revolution. The core idea of that was that people feel sexually oppressed. This is not beneficial for health, so in order to be healthy, people should have lots of sex. In the meantime the movement attacked the ancient religious boundaries on sexuality, claiming that they are useless, and people should free themselves. In other words, the moral restriction on sex has been lifted. So on one hand, "science" says that you have to have a lot of sex, and next, on the other hand, you have this "new moral" that having sex whenever you feel like, with whoever you feel like is not only okay, but pursuable.

I think the next logical assumption is, that people are ENTITLED to have sex whenever they feel like, with whoever they feel like. Add to the mix the overall achievement oriented materialistic wordview on manhood, that you are only a man if you have lots of sex. This idea is a logical consequence of the darwinian evolutionary worldview, because if humans are just mere advanced animals, then being the "alpha" is desirable. In the animal kindgom, only the alpha is entitled to procreate in most cases. (I could be wrong in this.)

The pinnacle and most pure result of this worldview was the mass murderer Elliot Rodger, who thought that he is only worth anything if he has sex, and had little to no moral restrictions. He felt he is entitled to have sex whatever the cost. But instead of raping people, he decided to kill them, one way or another, he wanted to show dominance.

So the better question -in my opinion- is "not why people rape others?" but rather "why didn't rape others all the time?". Yes, there is the objection that sex should be agreed on by both parties, but that claim is based on a moral claim, but you already threw out one moral restriction, why care about another? It's not hard to see why the last barrier isn't that strong.

    What do you think?

  3. I am sorry but I didn't get you, I guess I am misinterpreting you. Could you please explain your point again?

But 'rape' and 'having sex' is different concept. Its not a healthy practice to force someone to have sex.My point is why showing dominance through such a miserable act?I think its a rude way.We are not like other animals right. We can think. That quality differentiate us from others. We dont need to act the way animals behave.

  5. Of course, that was my point. You asked why people rape, and I gave you my opinion why I think some people might think that forcing sex is okay. I also believe that humans are caracteristictly different from animals, but this is not we are being taught and this is not the main worldview in the western world.
My point is that rape is a moral question, as we claim that forcing sex against the will of someone else is morally wrong. On the other hand the western world treats morals as mere obstacles that shackle humans. Think about relativists, or liberals for example. They constantly work on the destruction of moral barriers.
If you throw out morality, rape will no longer be wrong. If someone throws out his/her morality, AND he/she feel entitled to have sex whenever, with whoever, then there is nothing to hold him/her back from raping someone.

In my opinion morality is a base charateristic of humanity and we should always heed by that.

  6. I can't even imagine what a world would be like where people have no morals.
Only two things stop one from becoming animal. Conscience and fear.
If moral barrier doesn't work, fear must be used. Its my opinion that rapists should be treated in a manner that instills fear in everyone and they think ten times before committing this disgusting crime.

@Masquerade, if your P addiction included fantasies about rape or rape P then I would suggest that this discussion should be treated with extreme caution and has serious potential for being a trigger. Thinking about violent sexual acts and discussing them on a forum where people are trying to forget all the violent sexual imagery they have seen is not very sensitive to either your own addiction or theirs. While you say you are disgusted by it that doesn't mean that the imagery can't still be triggering.

Consider your motivation for starting this thread and the consequences it could have.

Rapping exists since the Man exists. It exists in nature, between animals, and even if you want it or not, we are also animals.
Of course as a human being, we have a brain intellect with which we have created the moral and we can follow it.
But some people have drives and they can't control them.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter or it's good, rape is a vile act which should be punished by death sentence all over the world.

We have created society, with rules, but we are now over 7 billion of human being in our planet (far too many) and there will always be someone with these drives.

Is it moral to marry a little 14 y.o girl just because she can give birth ?
Yet, not so far, at the time of castles and kings, it was totally normal.

  9. As long as she agrees, where's the problem ?
A 14-year-old girl isn't necessarily little, and if she's old enough for M, then she's old enough for marriage.
It should depend on biology rather than age.

  10. Exactly. Furthermore, I really fail to see how does the "but it happens in nature" and "but animals do it too" argument accomplishes anything. Animals do all kinds of weird shit, like the black widow eating its partner after mating. What does that tells us, to humans? Hopefully absolutely nothing. The animal kingdom has its own set of rules, and we have ours, called morality. Without it there is no good or evil, as it is the case between animals, just as Sursum Corda said.

Ok here is a very odd study I once read about gorillas. Normally in the wild female gorillas give off scent when they are ready to mate. Male gorillas smell it and then mate with those females...there is an order to things. Scientists started giving the females synthetic birth control pills similar to what are given to humans and the male gorillas could not tell which females were ready to mate and they began raping the female gorillas and in general were very distraught and disorganized. I can't remember if the study related this to human rape or not but it is interesting. They also mentioned that synthetic hormones might account for infertility since humans can no longer smell a natural pheromone from a woman to know if she is a genetic complement or not....but anyway.

Rape is not about sex it's about power. Since so many men feel powerless in todays society, rape is a way for them to take that power back. I don't necessarily think porn causes rape (there is a study which suggests porn actually lowers rape...although the study simply shows a correlation between places where there is internet access and lower incidences of rape) but I think porn can normalize rape. A person who might rape could be 'encouraged' through porn to go ahead and do it because it contributes to men seeing women as objects to use who have no feelings or emotions.

Some of the answers in this thread show how pervasive rape culture is. Rape is NOT about sexual desire. This is why 80 yr old grannies get raped. It is about power. Rapists prey on their victims, they don't just suddenly get overcome with desire!

I disagree. When animals 'rape' other animals it is not rape. It is an accepted part of life. Therefore it is not rape. Saying it is, is degrading the act of rape as being a moral dilemma. For example Reese Monkeys go and mate with whomever they want whenever they want. This is not rape, this is the way of life for a Reese Monkey....like eating and sleeping. If one day the Reese Monkey woke up and decided this behaviour was no longer acceptable there would be consequences for those actions. Have you ever seen a male dog try to mate with a female dog who didn't want to be mated with? I have and it is not pretty. There are many consequences for actions in the animal kingdom. Some groups will starve out a member for example if they are not playing by the rules. Or they will leave them out of the group to which they end up dying. Or of course they get attacked and killed. Very similar to our justice system...but a bit less civil ;)

Well, it doesn't explain all of the cass of sexual violence, but I belive some people are just bad. Like some serial killerers. They feel pleasure in other people pain. Some people really like to rape. Someting that is disgusting for us is totally exciting for them. Yes, it is terrible. But evil do exist.

I don't agree that animals cannot rape others because it is a accepted part of life. In some human societies, rape is tolarated, but we can't say it is not a rape. E belive it is just as wrong as it is in our society. I don't know if there is rape in animal kingdom, but I belive that is it is forced, then it is rape.

I belive that porn can help to guide a person to rape, because it objectify people, and violence is seen as something ordinary.

Also at 14 the prefrontal cortex is not fully developed which is responsible for decision making based on long term consequences. This is why teenagers do the messed up stupid shit they do! At 14 a person is still a child who cannot form an opinion based on long term consequences so marrying at 14 should not be allowed.

It is my belief that this always was going on but is now well known.
My mother was raped by her step father repeatedly.
All of her sisters were too.
Nothing ever happened to him, authorities were told but nothing was done.

Rape has decreased in the western world and most rapists are mentally ill. The NGOs pretend it's on the rise so people will give them money. The university system is also trying to expand the definition of rape (ad reversing the burden of proof) to "create" a crisis-they want men to ask permission for every individual act including cunnilingus. I don't know if women really fantasize about being "raped" but I'm pretty sure they want sex to be spontaneous and you can't do that with "affirmative consent."

Well I believe there is assumed consent if your face is getting that close to a woman in polite company. Haha I've never spontaneously put my tongue up a woman's dress without some form of consent including body language

This is faulty thinking. You are reasoning with your bad thoughts.

We were all 14 at some point. We know that many things we were doing at that age were not healthy. Especially involving sex. It is much different when a 14 y/o girl and boy are experimenting compared to an older male taking advantage of a young teenager.
