Pit in my stomach over lecture notes

I'm sat at my desk right now looking over some lecture notes so that I can start an assignment. I watched the recorded lecture last night, but was distracted b/c i was literally multitasking pmo with it. It was so gross and extended, and this week is super packed with work so I was instantly crushed with stress and self-hatred when I finished. I physically felt unwell, so I decided it was time to sign up for nofap. Porn's had me distracted and self-destructing since middle school, and I'm in college now. It's been going on for way too long.

I went to bed feeling better about myself for finally stepping up and finding a support network, and have been feeling much better about myself today than I have in a while. Overall, I had a pretty positive day, but these lecture notes are giving flashbacks to how absolutely low I felt just last night. Pits like this in my stomach trigger me sometimes, especially in my lonely dorm room, so I figured I'd use this new tool to fight the urge and introduce myself.

I have to say I've been super impressed with what I've seen so far on here. It's really comforting to know that there are others fighting this alongside me, who are personally familiar with the ins and outs of being slave to porn, and who I can look eye to eye to for support. I'm looking forward to getting to know the site better during the (likely many!) times I end up logging on while I fight these urges. Wish me luck!!

  2. Good luck! You’ll do great. We’re glad you decided to join us. I can empathize with how you feel after PMO. You feel hollow. But you can leave that feeling behind for good. Stress has been a big trigger for me in the past. When I’m behind in my work, I get caught up in a masturbation cycle that just makes me feel miserable. But the longer we go without PMO, the stronger we become.
Welcome here. Have you thought about setting a goal?

Thanks Jefe! My longest streak since corona started was 9 days, so I signed up for the 14 day.

  6. Nice goal. Some people get too ambitious with wanting 90 days right out of the gate. I think 14 days is achievable and will push you just enough. What is your plan to get to 14? I think having this supportive forum definitely helps us stay motivated and it also helps us relate to what others are experiencing. It also helps us begin to see why we turn to PMO and what our triggers are. How has it been going lately?

  7. Also, I used to struggle a lot with self hate and would really be hard on myself after each relapse. While I do not like relapsing, I have learned that beating myself up over it only makes it worse. Addiction is really hard to overcome and will take a lot of work and patience. Now when I relapse I try to shrug it off and count it as a learning experience. I try my best to stay away from it, but sometimes there are hidden reasons as to why I turn to it and I need to learn from relapses so that I don’t repeat the same mistake in the future. As we go untying the knots that hold us down, eventually we see longer streaks. It is definitely a journey so if you fall down, pick yourself up quickly and keep moving.

Honestly, my plan has just been to hop on nofap whenever I feel an urge. It was really the first day that was tough, I think part of it was just breaking the daily routine of doing it. Also, the novelty of an actual challenge has been keeping me with it. Do you have any suggestions or advice for what I should incorporate in a plan?
