New to recovery - introduction

Discussion in 'New to NoFap' started by Deleted Account, Jan 31, 2021.

  1. Hello everyone,

This is my first time joining a forum to help me with recovery from PMO addiction. I've been trying to stop on and off for 2 years now, but always without any help.

I am currently 21 years old, and am in my first year of university. Started PMO when I was 12 years old, and have been doing it almost every day since. My tastes became more deviant every year, and it got to the point where I was really disgusted with myself.

Never had any trouble like anxiety or depression. Never had any trouble with social interactions or women at all really. But watching pornography just makes me feel disgusting, so I want to stop. Any benefits I keep reading about are welcome, but it's not the main reason. To be honest I'm a bit sceptical about those benefits, could they really be true?

Since those two years I've cut away most of the deviant fetishes, and am now at the point where I believe it's possible to make one last push to full recovery.

I only wish I had found this forum sooner! Maybe then it wouldn't had taken me 2 years to reach this point!

Anyway, happy to join and make the best of life! :)

    Welcome
Please, start studying carefully what's happening in your mind > https://oceanrecoverycentre.com/2016/07/the-ultimate-guide-to-overcoming-internet-porn-addiction/

First time without porn will be stressful , but if you resist , in some months you will feel reborn.

If the first times a person relapse easly, it's okay.
The streaks becomes even longer , day by day.
Don't porn anymore, it's better to struggle and at the last to relapse than to look at porn.
No more instagram pictures of models. No more erotic imagines , erotic stories or erotic asmr.
If you experience ''flatline'' and low libido , resist.

We should improve in all area of our life, just being dissatisfied or stressed makes us relapse.

An effective weapon to overcome urges and thoughts : mindfulness.
The brain will try to win you and to get some triggers for the seek of dopamine. Resist

surprisingly that's true, but people tend to overdo it . It's not necessary to become a monk

That article Palindromo linked is excellent and will give you a good understanding on what is going on in your brain and why it is so hard to pull away from PMO. Encourage you to read it. Also encourage you to work with others, whether that is a therapist, support group, accountability partner from NoFap, etc. to walk this journey with the assistance of others. Doing it alone is less likely to be successful.

Hey bro - I’m at the same age and stage with a similar story.

I’m new here too, really hoping this can help turn things around.

Just like onepiece I’m trying to make it to 90 days (and beyond?!) I’ll drop back in here from time to time, let us know how you get on!

    U got this!

EDIT: Palindromo’s linked article is excellent! Just read it - thanks for the info, it‘ll be good ammunition to use against the impulsive part of my brain.
