Cold showers

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, May 6, 2021.

  1. For those who have had success with cold showers, how do you do them? Do you start with warm and move to cold? Do you do cold only? I’m just wondering what is most effective or perhaps if doesn’t make a difference.

Initially, start with Luke warm and inch it bit by bit to colder and finish off with like 30 seconds coldest setting. Now I just start and end cold as it's gotten really easy, only exception is if I have an injury I'm tending.

  3. Don’t think about it too much. I tend to hop in cold and keep it that way during the mornings. Now late at night, when I have more time, I start warm and end cold. If you’re just starting I suggest to go cold full out.

  4. I’ve done them for awhile but will typically apply soap and wash with warm water and then turn it cold enough to get me my entire body cold and shivering a bit. I suppose I should try full cold.

Hi. I started taking cold showers after discovering Wim Hof and his "Wim Hof Method". You can find his website and youtube channel. He has the best advice for you. But if you want a quick answer from my perspective this is how I do it:

    1. Turn on a full flow of the coldest water possible. And don't think about it. Just get in there. As a beginner you could start with a 2 minute warm shower just to get started.
Do not resist the cold just take deep breaths and welcome the cold. It's not your enemy it's your brutally honest friend.
Now. I can do this for about 2-3 minutes straight and even shower my head and everything but as a beginner please avoid showering your head.
Stand there for as long as you can. I'd say count to 25 or 30 breaths and let the water cover your body from the neck down.

    2. Turn on warmer water and shower for about 2 minutes or so. When you start to get a little comfortable, switch back to ice cold water.
Do this 3 times and over time you will get stronger and more resistent to the cold. You could finish off with a warmer shower but I suggest you walk out directly after the last cold shower because I think that's more healthy and it feels much better. You'll feel more focused and calm.

Do this before bedtime and you will sleep like a baby.
Try this if you want to. Maybe you will start to shiver a little bit but I can say that over time you will not shiver as much, or not at all. You will get used to it quickly I think.

Cold showers are great, got into them of course from Wim Hof. There's no specific way of doing them, experiment , have fun with it - whatever keeps you in the habit of having a cold shower do that - don't force that it puts you off cold showers entirely

Beginner: I use to do luke warm water, wash body, shampoo hair and then to the lowest it will go for about 2 mins.

Now: I enjoy the cold that much that I go straight into cold, I wash my hair under the cold do the shampoo all that, then I start a 4 min timer on my phone whilst playing Rammstein music and wash the rest of my body. Perfect.

I've started a few weeks back, I'd begin in warm water to get clean and then turn it all the way to the coldest, staying in there for a bit longer with each shower. Feels great afterward and I got to about a minute of being comfortable in the cold by now.

Awesome, I hope we'll get to your level too!

They work for me. I have a cold shower in the morning after a hot one and it kills the morning urges. There have been times in the afternoon where I have had urges and I have gone straight into a cold shower and within 30 seconds the urge is gone. Cold showers are one of the best habits I have incorporated into my daily life. They are a guaranteed urge killer.

Turn the water on first thing in the morning, let it get freezing cold, ignore the mind's reasons for delaying, and in with you. "Yip! Yip! Yip!" says you.

Let it hit the face, underarms, torso, arms raised, front of thighs and the banana or cocktail frank or whatever you're working with. Turn around, let the water get in wherever it wishes to go, turn front again, wash the face if it's warranted, wash the hair if it's time, otherwise, turn off water, wrap a towel around the self and out to the stove and put on the kettle, pedal to the metal.

  13. They don’t seem to work too well for me at reducing urges. They’re another discipline to strengthen my will power but it still takes repeated practice.

I think after about 14 days of cold showers you feel you have much more control of your life. Because it's true. You're doing something uncomfortable but you're doing it anyway. With cold showers you will "level-up" your self-control as in a computer game. With a higher level of self control you can let the urges pass like leaves on river. You know they are there but you won't jump into the river. You won't follow the stream. You just look the other way and let it pass. Do not identify with the urges. You are the pure consciousness witnessing it all happen. You are the one with control. You just have to be conscious about that fact.

I kinda make a more viking chuff/growl to a sort of beat but I always make it hit the base of my neck/upper back as that results in the immediate fight or flight response and pumps in adrenaline/cortisol(i believe there are studies)

I wanted to add - I've done 30 pushups a day since Jan 1, 2017. I almost never want to do them. But I say to myself "By the time you're done bitching about not wanting to do them, you could have banged out 20 and be done with it, almost." Same applies to putting your body into freezing cold water. "I don't wanna!"

After you do it awhile, the mind shhhhhs, and then it becomes a daily thing. You might say the same about the mind and its urge to click on that website, or start stroking a swollen member. Eventually you get the discipline to say "I hear you - now be quiet, Mr. Mind."

I've done the 30 day cold shower challenge and I completed it successfully.
I thought it was a myth at first but it really works, especially if you have a lack of self-descipline
Keep in mind though that it has nothing to do with Nofap.
