Addicted to NN More than Traditional Porn

Chatting was a very big problem for me too, and I think it's an even bigger addiction for some people than porn is. With chatting, you can lead it in whatever direction you want it to go. It's much more interactive, and there's potential for infinite novelty because of that one factor. It can definitely be so much more stimulating than watching videos because the viewer has no control over the outcome of the videos. With chatting, however, you are the writer, director, producer, and cast.

 

It's always nice (well ... as "nice" as sharing an addiction can be) to find others who have the same problems I do - makes me feel that I'm not alone. Don't get me wrong, I have gotten so much help from my porn-addicted brothers and sisters on this site ... but sometimes it feels like we don't 100% connect all of the time. I, too, am addicted to masturbation and can take or leave porn. My fantasies are fully NN as well. And, like you said, I don't consider myself a "porn addict" because if porn and all nudity on the internet went away tomorrow, that wouldn't change the danger that my fantasies and sites with plenty of NN pictures have for me.

But this is wonderful, and why I'm here! Absolutely ... connection is a key to battling our demons. And normal connection at that.

The big issue is sex addiction, being hooked on the rush that sexual stimulation gives you. Porn is the readily available, extremely potent delivery system, but however you get it - chat rooms, real live voyeurism, compulsive hook ups, hiring prostitutes, even gawking at supposedly “innocent” pinups - you’re seeking the same drug.

You’re on the right track to be here. As a huge f*ck up, I may not be the best source for advice. But it’s possible I’m seasoned expert at one thing: failure. And not confronting your own screw ups is a good way to fail, so welcome aboard.

I don't know if those who have posted so far do this, but you'll find some other threads that talk about catfishing. In case anyone reading doesn't know that is when one pretends to be someone they're not, like a guy pretending to be a woman or a girl.

The non-nude pictures is really secondary in this scheme of things, because at this point it is more psychological than sensory. It has to do with the story and identities within it as some have already pointed out, and in fact it is not even completely necessary to have any picture at all.

While imagery can make a strong impression, I think this is more insidious and subtle so it is harder to uproot all. When addressing the question of whether one should abstain from porn only or both porn and masturbation, I think this psychological aspect is the deciding factor. Because if someone can be hooked on an IDEA alone without sensory input then it's a mental issue and not so much a sensory one. Also the fact that chatting involves social interaction means this is like a disease that spreads, and in doing so there is a very good chance you're enabling another person in the same way.

From one angle we might say it's a matter of being addicted to fantasy. I don't know but I suspect the fact that you even have reboot challenges based on fictional characters is in some way a reflection of this, even if it is a way of turning it around and using the motivation towards reboot. From this perspective though I figure it goes to show how deep that streak goes.

BTW I'm all for people being creative, but this kind of fantasy is of course not grounded in reality and also not really creative - it typically involves some narrative that is already out there and basically just a matter of playing pretend. Any addiction involves compulsive repetitive behavior, and from that perspective we might say this involves a hijacking of our imagination so that it's not creative, and also the biological function of procreation.
