If you smoke weed...

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, May 30, 2021.

  1. you'll never be successful at NoFap. This is my opinion after seven years in recovery, my seven year-old opinion.

Obviously, I am not making an assertion, but stating my opinion. I am therefore open to hearing counter-opinions, if any of you have any.

Does anyone else use drugs and watch porn, or is it just me?

I’ve been doing nofap and smoking weed, you just need to learn how to control yourself and fight the urges, especially when your high.

  3. LOL!

Mate, you mean to tell me that your typical stoner can't resist a nice bag of Haribo and some Ben & Jerry's, but you're out there negating and possibly sublimating your sex drive under the influence of that very same psychoactive aphrodisiac?

I don't know how I feel about that one. I mean, with that logic, you can't do anything that is somewhat harmful? Like.. not even drink at a party? Each to their own, of course.
Now me - I'm not a stoner, I smoke like.. once every few months, so if it's an everyday-use type of thing, that may be a different story of course.

i can see it being a problem for say someone whos using weed as a coping mech. like trading one addiction for another. but someone like myself who has smoked weed before i even had a problem with PMO and knows how to control their high it might not be a problem.

  7. I don't smoke it, but I have on very rare occasions used edibles and tinctures with somewhere between .5mg-2.5mg of THC. I don't believe I've ever gotten high, although I think the first time which was 1mg I got a little aroused but I was at a very different place with my PMO recovery and mental well being, I didn't get aroused any of the other times and may go several months without having any. I have never used it in conjunction with PMO. BTW for developmental context I'm in my late 40s and the first time I tried it was only a few years ago. Once I took a bit (.5-1mg) to read a book on trauma that has some very heavy stuff.

So basically, I think all the specifics matter. Even if the majority of people have used way more at a younger age etc. I don't think it's just the substance itself, but also the person consuming it with their biological and psychological make up at that point in their life.

  8. Of course in that context of drinking at a party, there's peer influence which would be different from drinking alone or just a glass of wine at dinner with non-addicted people. There are obviously people who drink that are not alcoholics, and I've even heard people who are themselves in recovery take issue with the idea liquor stores are an evil business. Granted that will be where alcoholics tend to go, but they sell to both alcoholics and non-alcoholics.

Also you can look at it from the very simple, linear perspective that everything has a toxicity level - some are just higher than others. Even when people don't care to look at the details and qualify for context, (and yet might still like the idea of the Rat park study and repeat the "the opposite of addiction is connection" phrase) the connection between different aspects of life is ignored and I guess only social connection is considered.

So one can progress from singling out one addiction to multiple addictions or potential addictions, but then another step that is a game changer but maybe too complicated for most to want to think about is how the multiple addictions INTERACT. This is not the simple view that this short list of things are bad, but understand at least on a behavioral level something about the relationship and maybe how one thing leads to another or supports another in a network. Dismantling the network goes further. Actually, appreciating that there is a network rather than just things in the network comes even before that.

And we have networked interactions with normal health processes too that would not support addiction, even the opposite. To go back to the toxicity point, it would be a matter of knowing there is a tipping point.

Edit: I think when the network effect is ignored, which I think it is for the most part, then people will keep playing Whack-a-Mole forever. They may hold the position abstinence is required for everything but then have an increasingly harder time maintaining abstinence for every single thing they've identified as bad, since they will probably identify more and more things. I think you might as well save yourself the trouble by recognizing some things cannot be done by abstinence anyway (food, money) and stop looking at things as being separate and think about how it works together and interacts. Something being bad, even qualified as bad for oneself as an admitted addict doesn't say anything about how it works.

You reminded me of a time where the cashier asked me if I really wanted cigarettes last year while I was buying it, I regret so badly that I smoked it, I think I tried the one with tobacco, I regret it strongly, I hope no one tries drugs ever again, it's amazingly dangerous, thank god I'm not addicted to smoking, I would have another addiction if I didn't stop early.

I don't recommend weed or drugs to anyone, smoking made me feel like a loser and not getting anything out of life.

What happened, if you do not mind me asking?

A friend of mine started drinking so heavily that his behavior became unacceptable to the point that I could no longer be in his company. As a friend one tries to help, but help is perceived as an attack and they will have none of it...so I know what it's like to a person destroy his or herself through substance abuse.

As to the topic of weed and nofap...it depends what you choose to do with your high. Some people use it in order to amplify sensory pleasure, which is dangerous territory.

This definitely delays the reboot though. When you smoke weed, you're tampering with the very thing that you're trying to heal: your dopamine receptors. I was smoking weed for the first year of my reboot, but I quit shortly before I hit my one-year anniversary. I'm a few days away from my two-year NoFap anniversary, and I can honestly say that I noticed more progress in my healing during the second year than the first year. I genuinely believe that things like weed and alcohol hinder the healing process. I will occasionally smoke some weed in the future, but I'm not going to until I've fully rebooted.

  16. Is weed an aphrodisiac, yes or no?

    For me, absolutely YES!

  18. I believe it can be, but you have to qualify for dosage.

For example even zinc as a trace mineral can have that effect.

  19. This is the (behavioural) crux of the matter: if you're (a) smoking weed you are elevating your dopamine; likewise, if you're (b) watching porn you are elevating your dopamine.

What if you decided to do both activities at the same time? Wouldn't that have a compound effect?

All these things, whether they are alcohol, weed or porn, we do them for their dissociative effects. If you decide to do them in combination, you therefore increase the dissociative effects, because you seek dissociation to the furthest degree possible.

This is why I smoke weed and watch porn at the same time.

I have done speed and watched porn.

I have also done cocaine and watched porn.

Porn and drugs are a cross-addiction for me, because I use one to heighten the effects of the other.
