The drugs. Adderall and Ritalin were the bad doctors favorites, but I pushed them away at every turn. Would rather die feeling than live like an automaton. Also didn't want to become an addict.

I took Ritalin for more than 6years it's really bad I don't think it helped me with my ADHD though, when I came back to school and stopped it I was doing good without it.
Turned me into zombie without hunger

The main problem is, even if it helps - we are becoming dependt on it. It's like smoking weed to relax one cannot stop.. but it's good for emergency situations.

Oh mine didn't think P was ideal, they just didn't think it could make you emotionally numb, produce brain fog, or any of that stuff. The second one I'm still with blessed off on my current push to quit, but mostly because it's important to me. He sees P as an understandable, if not normal sexual outlet, but he's also an LGBTQ+ specialist and has a more liberal view of normal human sexuality. I think he would disagree with the guys who come in here asking if their escalation has turned them artificially gay, for example; he'd probably say P has shown they already had gay/bi interests. But we don't talk about that much because that's not my situation, and me intellectually deflecting.

It's funny because that one women who I felt wasn't equipped to treat specifically straight men. Gave me a scolding about how harmful porn use was, but in retrospect she may have been coming from a feminist perspect. Anyhow, she tried.

Thank you for sharing your story in such detail. I would be lying if I said I am not concerned that some of the stuff they will come out with will sound like nonsense to me. I'm not intending to go in there and be stubborn but I can also envision it happening. I cant really explain why I think this might happen, it might just be paranoia that something untoward might happen.

Thank you for sharing. What you describe is my concern. That if I really open up and am honest, I'll get diagnosed with some disorder and the psychiatrist will try to medicate me, which I am absolutely opposed to.

Damn, if you needed therapy because of your wife that must have sucked. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the good advice. I think you may be right, a clinical psychiatrist might go "deeper" than a regular therapist. Not entirely sure though.

Thanks for the support. I also dont want to be put on drugs, I doubt it will come up, but who knows.

Thanks for the advice. I am unsure if the person I am seeing will be the person I see in future, or what the plan will actually be. I assume this first session will be a more general assessment.

Thanks. Anxiety is the big one for me. I've always gotten it badly but it's only getting worse as time goes on. I'm actually going to be tested for some physical issue too because my doctor wasnt comfortable just labelling my symptoms as anxiety and then treating it without knowing for sure it wasnt something else.

I'm sure your experience will be better. Given the country the you live in.

My experience was really one of a kind. I just got an individual who should not be treating children.

Been to three different ones during my pre-teen and teen days, hated all three of them within days, didn't help at all.

First one was due to adhd, two later ones due to depression.

Be careful with this, just a piece of advice.

@SickSicko is right. I forgot to mention that in my other post but...

If you have suicidal thoughts, be very careful sharing that. Very careful. Shock therapy was forced on a friend of mine because he mentioned it and his therapist blew it out of proportion.

    Be honest, but also careful.

To be honest the NHS kinda sucks, it's a crapshoot whether you will get anywhere because of how inconsistent it all is. One positive thing about me being diabetic is they actually pay attention to me when I contact them for anything, the kind of thing an average person might be ignored for.

You mean be careful with my opposition to meds or be careful with them trying to give me them? Or me being honest?

This is the kind of thing I was alluding to. Am I suicidal? Hard no in terms of actually wanting to hurt myself. But I dont know, sometimes I feel like life is too much effort, if that makes sense.

With being too honest, and with taking meds lightly without at least a second opinion.
Don't take me wrong, you have to be open, but be careful with what you say and how you say that could be open to misinterpretation.
You express something and it doesn't always convey the message you are trying to send to the listener.

It does. Most good therapist wouldn't take that as much of anything.

But...but then you get the expert manipulation from the bad ones. So...yeah, just choose your words wisely, look out for steering and if you feel off, be direct about it.

I honestly don't think you'll have a bad experience, to be honest. Let's hope for best.

Yeah they have guidelines you have to follow and some of them instead of looking for body ques or any other ques. Will take what you say literally.

I always used to say "No" when I hear the question "Do you have suicidal thoughts" because its a slippery slope. I'd get them yea but never wanted to act on them. They kinda just passed.

No offence mate and I do not know what your situation is but for me it helped, maybe it's you're experience with them probably unlucky..

But I'd suggest to not give up on these, have you tried female too? I know some that go for females and say they prefer that.

About psychiatrist I don't know what your diagnoses but whatever you tell him he'll throw at you, if you have voices you'll get a pill against voices. If you have social anxiety he'll suggest a pill for that.. basically that's what happend to me but just be sure about what you have.

If you have suicide thoughts and in really bad condition that you tell him it happens every appointment he will suggest Psychiatrict hospitalization.

You just need to be sure of your condition, that's all.. because all you say to them matters, and if you're under 18 which I believe you aren't right? the decisions are mostly not yours.

Yeah thought that's what you meant. When I think logically I think it all comes down to anxiety and depressive episodes/fluctuating moods. I used to go through phases of being convinced I was various things, autistic, BPD, bipolar, etc, but I think that was just an anxiety response. I'm hesitant to take medication because, as others have said already, they dont cure the problem, they arent like antibiotics, they just suppress the anxiety. I dont want the "solution" to me being too emotional to end up being "become a numbed husk."

Yeah, I hope I do. I'll report back after it. I think it's on Friday but I need an updated appointment letter to arrive cause my first one had the wrong info on it.

Well the only thing I get that approaches voices is hearing people calling my name when I listen to music, which used to freak me out but that is apparently normal lol, just the brain misinterpreting loud combos of noise.

Yep, as I said my main thing is anxiety, stress, mood swings, depressive episodes etc. Nothing as serious as being schizo.

And yeah I'm 24. If they try to do anything I dont want I'll say no. Years of dealing with medical people has given me the thick skin needed to tell them where to shove it when they start acting a certain way towards me. I used to be way worse at this and spiral really badly but I can handle it now.

It doesn't sound like you're experiencing anything harmful when it comes to voices, it's a concern when it tells you to do dangerous s things such an suciding in different ways etc.. anyway voices are pain in the ass you don't have to worry about names.

Them doing that is really putting a sledgehammer on a problem that needs a scalpel. For the most part its a legal solution, so they’re absolved of liability if an individual does go on to be a harm to themselves or others.

Don’t get me wrong there are ppl who need to be institutionalized and its a shame at least in the US that many of those programs nolonger to exist.

I almost feel that the logic behind mandatory hospitalization. Is if you were really distressed and a risk, you wouldn’t hesitate to straight up tell you care provider, while if you’re just getting passing thoughts. You’re more apt not to mention or are more likely to articulate it during the meeting.

Idk though I’m not a mental health professional
