Activating FortiClient on iOS devices

FortiClient Endpoint Management Server (EMS) could be used to acivate FortiClient on other devices when connected to the same network (Wifi in this example). FortiClient EMS is not a web filter itself but it is used to configure and activate FortiClient.

This guide will only work for iOS devices. Don't waste your time trying to activate FortiClient on android or windows.

Your iPhone will have to be in supervised mode.

1-Create a FortiCloud account here:

2-Download and install FortiClient Endpoint Management Server:

(They will send you an email containing a link named: FortiClient Enterprise Management server software)

3-Open FortiClient Endpoint Management Server and login using this:
Username:admin
Password:
(there is no password)
It will ask you to set a password. Enter a password that you can remember.

4-Click on Try Free and login using your FortiCloud account to activate the app.




Let's setup the filtering rules that we will push to our devices:






Remember when I said that FortiClient EMS activates FortiClient on devices connected to the same network (wifi)? This means that other devices will have to connect to your PC where FortiClient EMS is installed.

First, We will have to find the IP address of your PC:
From start menu, open cmd.exe then enter:
netsh interface ip show address


Now look for the IP Address for Wi-Fi. In my case, it's 192.168.1.13


Go back to FortiClient EMS, click on system settings>EMS settings>Listen on IP and select the right IP (mine is 192.168.1.13) then click save.





Remember the IP and the Port number as you'll have to enter them on your iPhone.


On your iPhone:
1-Your iPhone has to be on Supervised Mode and you have to install FortiClient's web filter payload.

3-Follow these steps to activate FortiClient on your iPhone:

If you want to change the configuration for your device, make the changes that you want to the profile "Default" and click save. Then, open FortiClient on your iPhone when it's connected to the same wifi network as your PC. The configuration will be automatically pushed to your iPhone.

After you're done, change FortiClient's EMS login password, so you can't change the configuration. Save the password on lockbox.pluckeye.net

Each FortiClient EMS can only activate 3 devices. If you want to activate more, just install FortiClient EMS on another PC and create a new FortiCloud account.

 

haha, of course not. I just found it helpful, so I wanted to share the steps. It's the only web filter that actually filters all browsers as it works exactly like the iOS built-in filter which means that filters everything you enter in the browser's address bar. So, it will still work even when using VPNs, etc.
