Celeb worship is so toxic and time-waisting!

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Aug 29, 2021.

  1. Anyone else think so? Celeb worship and even caring about details of celebs lives is so toxic and time-wasting! From their Instagram posts to their political feelings to who they are dating and even their struggles, I mean how is that even relevant to us?

When I had my social media addiction I recall partaking in celeb stories and reading discussion boards, I can’t believe we have such a culture. These celebs are doing absolutely NOTHING for our lives. I can’t believe all of the hours I wasted watching their interviews, discussing things they said which were IRRELEVANT to my life and most other peoples!

It just sucks how if you get into popular culture you fall into all sorts of toxic bull. Am I wrong?

  2. Never got into that stuff myself, but I guess you are searching for ideas and things you can apply for your own life. Maybe even follow the footsteps of the celeb to some day do what they do. At the same time speaking about sites like instagramm: they are pretty much designed to waste your time and if you are involeterally staying to much on those sites you might want to consider giving them a break.

  3. I don’t look to celebs for anything. Social media and the news has created a celebrity worship culture making people think who a celeb is dating and what they say, do and think needs to be under the microscope and is any of our concern. By and large, the life of a celebrity is irrelevant to everyday people. A celebrity has never done anything for me and my life and probably not for the majority of people. Talent is what matters and even then the individuals everyday life and who they are or aren’t dating is not really relevant to anyone else. Yes, I agree that Instagram is toxic. I’m not on social media except for NoFap however I had friends who were heavy on social media, did not have good lives but you’d think they did based upon their social media pics because they put their life highlights like vacations and family events. In everyday life they had tons of issues!

Paganism in its simplest form is the worship of humanlike gods.

What are celebrities? How are they perceived?

Gods in human form. People worship them like the idols of old.

    Goodluck buddy

  12. Celebrity worship is a waste of time. But these people are famous and are instantly recognizable. It’s also the same people who worship YouTubers and Twitch streamers. Just to watch someone’s fake happy life to escape their own sad miserable boring reality life.

You can also fall into celebrity sadness and toxic drama as well. Which only creates toxic thoughts in your life.

  13. Yes, you have some toxic YouTubers who have hundreds of thousands or millions of subscribers and it’s like..... why? It’s the strangest thing and when I was into social media I would have to fight getting sucked into that as well! It’s all such a time waister! These people aren’t doing anything for anyone else and there personal lives are not really relevant or important to anyone else.

That is the celebrity culture and it fits in perfectly with the ongoing attempts to dumb down people to the point where they are easily manipulated and remain obedient to a merciless system that will give you unlimited pleasures while taking away your happiness and freedoms.

  15. About Youtube, there're still a lot of educational and helpful contents (I use DFTube on laptop and don't use YT on my iPhone so I won't get distracted).

I have just found a 10 hours free web development course on YouTube,... will start learning it tomorrow.

Ignore mainstream media because it sucks. Personally, I find it quite unnecessary to care about others living and being sucessful in their life (celebs,...)

  16. It is instructive to realize that celebrities, with all their money and good looks, are still as miserable as the rest of us.

I never want to be famous because I would never be able to trust anyone ever again. Trust that they were truly interested in me and not what being associated with me gave them.

Being a celebrity is even more miserable for women who have all kind of nonconsensual pornography made of them so that nerdy men can live out their degrading sexual fantasies of them.

  17. Youtube has some informative videos and you can learn a lot but there's alot of toxic content and the nature of the website (videos with provocative video titles) is made to suck you in and keep you watching more and more. There is so much toxicity on youtube and it's not just the comments but the videos and the you tubers who put out toxic videos. Even the product reviews done by people are bull b/c they are trying the product in front of us in a short video. A real review involves trying out something and seeing how it is overtime. I've tried some hair products recommended on youtube that were horrible. Many people are making videos just to be paid.

Then you have all sort of people lying to make money like giving advice on relationships when they themselves are going through a divorce and have tons of family problems. You have couples on there who talk over each other and just give off bad vibes, too many controversial topics that make you cringe on youtube as well. It's extremely TOXIC and the video format sucks you in.

Anyone can make a video and post it on youtube and spread toxicity, claim to give advice, discuss their life which is irrelevant to all of us and so forth.

Celebrity interviews and so forth are also a time-waister because these people are entertainers. You can't really trust they do as they claim in their personal lives and also their lives are irrelevant to us. Logged off, one immediately realizes that what Kanye West does or what other celebrities do, wear and so forth has NOTHING to do with us and benefits us in no way! It's way too much irrelevant information that we don't even need to know.

Watching an occasional video you found from a google search that's hosted on youtube to learn something new is OK, actually being on youtube and searching around is when it becomes very toxic. Even the video comments tend to be really toxic and CRINGE!

  18. Stop watching there interviews these so called celebs thrive on attention when you dont give them the time of day YOU WIN

I fall into idolatry or become obsessed with individuals from time to time, especially from history, or great artists/ inventors or heroes in myth. I believe it’s bad for you and I try to avoid it. But I’ve never understood people who obsess over Hollywood actors or people like the British royal family.

The Royal Family thing is so relevant cause right now people are freaking out over Harry presenting some bullshit award at some ceremony noone cares about, and it's set off the chain reaction of people complaining about people complaining about people complaining. (Yes I know I'm contributing to this)

Literally shut the fuck up, noone cares, holy shit. I dont care about Harry and his wife. I dont care about the others either. I dont think many people actually do, it's just the illusion that they do on social media.
