Seems like one of those things you can't help but look at from time to time .

At the same time I'm finished with watching porn

Do you think viewing cams would harm "recovery"

Probably to some degree because. Cams are not reality

Yeah just stop watching them. I know it is hard ans your brain will try to justify all kinds of porn substitutes. They will harm your recovery a lot.

    P is P
    P-subs are P
    All these hamper recovery

  5. I would stay away from the cam sites. Sure you think, I'll just go on and sit there in the public chat and not do anything. Eventually (and it won't take long) it'll lead to "I'll just jump into a private session for a quick second." And next thing you know you decide to hang around in the private session, and run up a credit card bill and you're PMOing to the cam girl.

Lots of us stopped. Why can't you? Keep doing recovery work: try new techniques, reflect on what works, what doesn't, and why.

    Really?

It depends what you mean by "recovery" and what you are trying to recover from? Like this guy said:

Ask yourself the same question; how is your recovery working out, is "viewing cams still while not pmoing" helping you maintain a long sobriety streak?
    So 'no' then.

I think you have answered your own question, viewing cams is a terrible idea. You may think you cannot stop but you can, many of us have, that's what this site is for.

It's like a cocaine addict saying what if I just sit next to some cocaine and look at it. Not picking on you but your own brain is. We are all in the same boat with our mind looking for excuses to get closer to our habit/addiction.

Just adding on to the pile. I don't understand how you can think cams are not P. Some serious mental gymnastics there, my guy.
No offense, but that's like a cocaine addict saying "what if I smoke it instead of snort it?"

Listen, instead of asking yourself how close you can get to P without it being P, get as far away from it as possible. Instead of trying to figure out what you can do while still "recovering," stop everything S related. Detox from S. Learn to live without S, without even the hope of some future S. Use the time to work on yourself, become a better person. Redirect your thoughts to who you want to be, instead of a thirsty "nice guy" begging for S, craving S, wishing you could have some, wishing you could find a girl irl who'd give it up as easily as a cam girl. Just get away from it entirely. That's how I got my streak.

Even though it's not explicitly porn, it's still artificial stimulation. The part of your brain that is addicted to porn can't tell the difference between cams or porn, so they will both have the same exact effect.

    A quote from YBOP:

"As odd as this may sound, there’s no such thing as porn. The brain knows exactly what alcohol or heroin is, but the reward circuitry has no way of recognizing porn. Instead, higher portions of the brain relay nerve impulses associated with sights, sounds, smells, and memories to the reward circuit. The strength of these very complex signals determines the excitement levels measured by your reward circuit. What really matters are spikes of reward circuit dopamine (and other neurochemicals), not what’s on the screen."

What stimuli must I avoid during my reboot (did I relapse)?

Get rid of all artificial stimulation for recovery. If you're still watching cams you are not recovering, you are digging the hole deeper.

Playing the devil advocate here but what if you watch porn and do not pmo? iv tried it and it is pretty boring, biggest harm that i can see it causing me is that i would eventually give in and mo maybe for hours but just watching P? how can it be harmful?

Even without masturbation porn still causes dopamine to spike. Watching porn without orgasm can actually be more harmful since arousal can last much longer, making the connections in your brain much stronger.

Masturbation is not the problem, humans have been doing that for millennia with little to no issues. Porn is causing our issues, so it and anything like it must be avoided

If I watch porn I eventually masturbate. It doesn't stop my mind from trying to trick me into it though.

A lot of guys ask this in trying to hold on and justify some part of their addiction, but you already identified part of the problem. Watching P, edging, just leads to MO. It's leaving the same dopamine wiring intact, just reducing the stimulation a little, which means no rewiring at all and your brain is just going to get frustrated. Like you perhaps inadvertantly imply, it's a waste of time.

Instead of asking how close you can get to P and get away with it, if you really want to quit, you need to ask yourself how far away you can get without quitting life and becoming a hobo.

  15. I want to quit drinking. I'm finished with drinking whiskey, but can I still drink vodka? Would this harm my recovery?

This is how the mind makes you negotiate with your problems. I'm sure you already know that though. Assuming you can actually sit there and only watch it and do nothing else, don't you find it a bit odd to just sit there watching porn and not doing anything else like its a tv show or something? Not trying to be judgmental or anything but a lot of people use porn from time to time to get off, a lot of people don't just sit there and watch it. That's almost more concerning cause it indicates an even deeper addiction. At that point its not even about the O, its just about the porn itself.

Very likely . There are people who are addicted to pmoing . There are people who are addicted to talking shit on cam sites . Some people watch porn to get off some watch cam for that and they find it interactive . Me I watch porn to get off yea but also because well I get bored . I'm sure there a vast network of deeper problems with me. But generally lots of boredom . heterosexual Male brains feel better when we see women it's just a fact. Not healthy definitely . I'm transitioning out of this level of boredom .

Have you considered therapy or counseling? It could be worth it to talk this out with someone.

What are your goals? What does recovery mean to you?
Would watching cams fit into these goals and definition of recovery?
