Jesus was not kidding around in Matthew 5. Drastic measure are called for in desperate situations. How desperate are we to be free? What price are we willing to pay? No matter how high it might be, it is worth it! God is good, and he is faithful to provide everything we need.

 

I hope i will not say anything stupid, but PMO is different.

Do not watch P, ok, we get rid of our eyes, we don t have eyes we can t do much and we have more time in our hands to get bored and we start spending time M, next is to chop our hands of so we don t M, we do that and then we can t do anything, we get even more bored and we start humping the bed or something, then we have to "cut it of" (ouch), then what, our imagination is left, we can t tear out our brain...

One way or the other, we will still have a way to sin. True, drastic measures are required to fallow God Path, but not in this case. Everything starts in our mind, if we can stop the thoughts, we can stop the deed! Yes, is hard to stop the thoughts, but we must fight them. In my case, i almost relapsed in the last two days because of my thoughts, is hard for me to fight them, but i m doing my best to fight them, i have to!

P blockers, i have tried a few but never worked on me, i always found a way to get around them or just simply turn them off. Some of them were good, but they blocked to much, like non adult stuff and it was a pain to work with them installed.

How do we give our minds the space they need to get free of tempting thoughts for long enough to regroup and focus on the truth? If we live under constant bombardment, how can we get clear? I left the internet and "smart" devices behind for a period of nearly two years while I worked on getting free. I gave up a career in IT that had me around computers every day, taking a 60% pay cut to do so. These were the things the Spirit directed me to so that I might finally know the freedom that was available in Christ. I would not have gotten free if I had refused to do what he had instructed.

Entering the Kingdom requires everything from us. How do you think getting free of PMO will be any different?

 

Certainly not by losing body parts!
Getting rid of anything smart will help, definitely! Man, losing 60% of income is hard, at least for me it is, i wish i had any knowledge in IT, better pay...
I only have two smart devices, PC and smartphone. PC is for relaxation after work, i don t have a TV. And the smartphone is for personal use as a ... phone. And i have a second nonsmart phone for work, i don t take my smart at work, i don t want to be distracted by it. Tbh, only two or three times i used my phone for PMO, never got interested to watch P on it, i don t know why but i m glad.

Jesus often taught through parable, metaphor, and hyperbole. I don't think he means that we should literally maim ourselves, just that freedom from sin may cost us dearly, and we must be willing to do whatever it takes to get free, even if it seems extreme to those around us. As long as we are listening to and obeying the Spirit, we will not go wrong. But his guidance is often not what we would expect!

 

I don't feel you have offended anyone. Everyone here, has wrestled with these questions and temptations. You are not alone and I pray you succeed in the quest to quit this sin. Our world needs more people who are willing to identify P as the insidious sin it is and hopefully prevent others from falling prey to it as we have.

I once felt guilty for not destroying my laptop, as it was my primary portal into the filth of P. Indeed, I still wonder if I should have done so. However, laptops, phones, ipads have become nearly essential for modern life. So, we must consider how we can conquer the temptations they easily bring. In my case, I recognized that I sinned during the hours of night and early morning when the rest of the household was asleep. I also recognized that my decision to sin was almost always an impulsive one. Without the means to sin nearby, I could not act on the impulse. Hence, I began storing my laptop in the garage or locking it in my car during the evening and early morning. It was a inconvenient because I also needed it for work and various personal projects but it was worth it. As the grace of the Holy Spirit built within me, my ability to resist temptation grew and I no longer need to keep my laptop out of reach but if I feel myself weakening, it will go back to storing it some place out of ready reach. Looking back, it was a small sacrifice to make and completely worth the payoff of freedom.

PS the idea of P-blockers is good and perhaps essential in a household with children. However, as most people seem to echo, they are too easily defeated to be an effective deterrent for us when we are intent upon sinning.

 

My desktop is(was) my primary portal for P, unfortunately i m not willing to make this sacrifice, first of all is expensive (for me), buying a new one i have to save up about ten months. Then i don t have anything to do, i will get bored faster if i don t have anything to keep me busy after work, and i will go back to M and using my imagination, which is not that hard now that i m having difficulties to control my thoughts.

P blockers are the best for children, to keep them away from this sin, for an adult that knows a thing or two about them, is useless. Unless you a partner, husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend/friend/etc...that can check up on you(desktop, laptop, phone, tablet,etc), i live alone so P blockers are useless for me.

 

Accountability software is something that many use and find quite helpful. It doesn't block or filter anything, but it monitors everything and alerts your APs if you get into anything questionable. There are many resources available, if you are willing to look!

 

I like this analogy! Ultimately, you have to have a change of heart and mind. If your heart is bad and your mind is corrupt you will do like me and override the blocked devices shut off AP’s and be unresponsive. Everyone’s journey is different. But Christ can give you the strength and determination but you have to go to him and not P every time. He can renew your heart mind soul and body. But your cannot be passive.

 

You make a good point timcia, as you always do. I don't know of every P blocker out there and as TaoJones said, accountability software must surely be effective. I am wrong to suggest these things don't work just because I don't have personal experience of that. Thanks for pointing these things out. Good work!

I do wish to add one thing though. I wanted to quit for a long, long time. Perhaps my desire was lacking but I don't recall it that way. However, I was lacking in seeking and gaining grace from the Holy Spirit to inspire me and I was lacking in self-discipline to keep my eyes and my mind free from salacious images and thoughts. Daily, conversations with God, in the form of heartfelt prayer in which one speaks but also listens, is absolutely essential in procuring the grace needed to bolster self discipline. Grace, is the key to building desire and building self discipline.
