Okay, hear me out. I invented a new method that might just help you abstain from PMO. It's a kinda pick your poison thingy. The way this thing works is whenever you get urges, you channel them into some other addiction. For example, an urge comes in that's too hard just to sit out so you start playing a game until you get exhausted or until something comes up. If you get bored you can channel it into yet another addiction like maybe binge watch anime or go into a movie marathon. Another situation could be that you have something scheduled in an hour and you're getting an urge, just get involved in some other addiction for the hour. Of course you could do something healthy and productive too, but the engine of this method is that it uses your other addiction urges to fight off your PMO urges, basically it uses your desires to fight off your PMO desire and so it's almost guranteed that you won't even start looking at porn. And after a while, say 10 days, you'll be far stronger because you'll not have looked at any form of porn or hentai online and you'll be able to make independent choices and do things that might've been hard or a hassle to you before like working out and going on runs to overcome your urges instead of necessarily needing an addiction to preoccupy you. How does this sound? I wanna hear y'alls thoughts

It works short term but you want to be productive and functional in your day to day life aswell, how much time do you have to binge watch an anime when you got shit to do?

Also, you might eventually run out of stuff like that to do, and if the urge is strong enough you won't want to do anything else, everything else will seem uninteresting in that moment.

So first of all it’s great that you are trying various approaches and sharing ideas, appreciate that for sure!

Saying that I see some issues with it:

1)core assumption is to change one addiction into other, I doubt it will be much easier and you are risking here developing additional ones instead, still having that PMO (as it is one heck of a huge monster-when it comes to addictions).

2)typically if you are selecting something which has value i.e. sport there is not much common ground with PMO. Still when it comes to tv,anime, ton of movies it’s not matter IF but WHEN you will get to see some trigger there. Also from physical pov you are doing quite same thing (watching screen, home staying)-does not sound like big behavioral change.

3)Your life will not become better so there will be less long term motivation-if any.

I will not call turning into something productive as sports, books or cultural things like theater or movie a bad thing. Channeling urge is a very strong and successful tool. Nevertheless, balance is everything - turning addiction into addiction is like an alcoholic is changing vodka to beer or cocaine and thinks that makes him get better - that's a fairy tale.
To sum it up - turning addiction into addiction is bad - channelling urge into something productive is a remedy. Thank you for that post.

@Quezatolah Yeah but you if you're not involved in something productive the whole day, this is a method you can use when you get urges in your free time. Starting out, doing productive things might not be enough to overcome an urge, you may lose interest while in the middle of that activity and start PMOing. Also just so that everything else doesn't seem uninteresting when the urge is too strong, I recommend replacing the PMO shit with an addiction just as strong or even stronger than your PMO addiction. This way your other addiction urges will seem even more interesting than your PMO addiction urge and so you'll start involving yourself in that addiction.

Yes if you want to do something productive go for it but what I'm saying is they might not be enough to battle your urges initially unless you have an addiction with something productive. This is a method you can use until you get strong enough until you can make a choice about what you want to channel your urges into.

And yeah, there might be triggers and you're right about that. That might be a problem we'll have to deal with but we can of course find a way through this, yes? An example could be playing an MMORPG game. They don't usually have sexual triggers.

Yup, you're right about this. Turning an addiction into an addiction is bad. What I'm talking about though is breaking the PMO cycle and you'll just have to necessarily do this only temporarily until you get to make a choice, so in the long term depending on what you choose your life could be better or worse.

About mmorpg-I doubt you will find even one with decent graphic which does not have sexual content-especially knowing that you don’t need much to trigger someone on 3days+ streak:D

Maybe instead do some analysis and try to pick up something which you like or at least see true value in it (so doing it you know you are taking care of yourself).
I am also currently trying this approach in which I have like 8 healthy “side quests” (main one being keeping my streak)-it does not matter that I am not doing all every day-still I’ve noticed that those small wins are giving satisfaction and motivation to continue streak and certainly become easier to do (without it I wouldn’t bother to spontaneously do those things)-example of that you can find in Lord of the rings challenge-here on NoFap.

What about MapleStory? I don't really remember there being any sexual content in it. Well I'm gonna try overloading anyways, so let's see how it works out, shall we? Besides, this is just a method you can use, not the only one you have to use, whenever an urge becomes uncontrollable and you can't think about doing something productive, you can do this. Other than that, you're free to do whatever you want. This is a method that's specialized to break the PMO cycle/keep your streaks up and open up other areas of life, but if you're strong enough to overcome all your urges with productive things, you might not need to do this. But sometimes, you get one of those 'streak-breaking urges', you can use this then.

Damn, this is pretty incredible! You're pretty amazing for being able to keep this stuff up, you know? But the thing is, everyday challenges and to do lists aren't my kinda thing since I'm a pretty whimsical and instinctive kinda person, I just do whatever I feel like doing at the moment, say I wanna do a 100 pushups all at once I do it right there and then I don't have a workout routine.

    Thanks for kind words!
Totally understood, one could even say that our approaches have some conceptual similarities (but also some differences, which is fine).
At the end of the day the best solution is that which works for you-and worst case scenario you will be able to learn something and next approach will be better-so sounds like win-win.

Good luck and please post your findings!

My issue with this is that you aren’t dealing with the core problem. The problem is a dopamine overdose. If you constantly shift to another dopamine source then the problem will never go away IMO.

This sounds like the SuperBetter game by Jane McGonigal.
You gamify your life. Complete/create your quests, recruit allies, battle bad guys, etc.
Clinically proven to improve your life in 30 days by using your gamer mindset.

I tried the game/app for a week, as it's free anyway, and easy to get started.
Also listened to 35% of her audiobook which explains it all.
Haven't tried the advanced features, but it works out well so far.
