Only few people i know have healthy self-esteem.
High self-esteem is definitely better than low self-esteem, but they are both unhealthy.
If you want my definition of a healthy self-esteem it is this : No one is beneath me, and only love is above me.

I like the definition...it's very simple as well as a solid mantra to live by. Thanks for sharing that bro.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, matter of fact not just porn addiction alot of mental disorders also stem from poor self esteem. I know this firsthand because i have zero self esteem and im struggling with a lot of disorders and depression. Its crippled me so hard, i wish i developed good habits and self esteem at a younger age, i regret it so much today

It may be one of the most common reasons, but not the only one. Sexual deviants from certain illegal categories surely didn't lack self-steem when they did what they did. They lacked a good beatdown though.

You run with that! I don't agree. At all! To the contrary.

I'm skeptical, as I have met people who are not addicts and who are successful, but who still have what others would call low self-esteem.

Personally, I don't think being successful at a particular behavior/activity has anything to do with self-esteem or that high self-esteem is always a positive thing. For example, me having a high opinion of myself and my ability to do mathematics doesn't mean I'm going to do better than the person who has a low opinion of themselves. My high opinion of myself could lead me to being overly confident, which leads to my fall.

Now, I believe issues such as addiction and the process of recovery have a "self" component in them, but I believe it is more along the lines of conforming the self to reality rather than fighting fantasy with more fantasy.

    You said:
Where did you get that idea from? There is absolutely no evidence to support that claim and in fact plenty to support the exact opposite. I'm not talking about some opinion in psychology today. I'm talking about real world empirical scientific evidence to support that claim. Just exactly how much self-esteem does it take to commit acts sexual deviance from certain illegal categories? I would say they lacked any self-esteem but that's JMHO.
