Porn substitutes

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by g2stop, Oct 12, 2015.

  1. I feel like I'm quite resistant to it too which made it difficult to find videos that worked on me, but I did and they had a remarkably negative influence on me.
If it didn't work for you at all, you certainly dodged a bullet there man.

K, this might be weird but every time i get the urge to jack off, I go on youtube and search "Porn Addiction"
There is a whole slew of videos. I watched this TEDx talk a couple of days ago and it is especially awesome, because it talks not only about the effect it has on you, but the vicious cycles of the porn industry. When I learned about that, it shifted my mindset towards Porn. Instead of it being a solitary activity, it turned "Watching Porn" into "Contributing to Human Trafficking and Exploitation"

This, I guess, would be my porn substitute.

  3. It's an interesting Point @fapdroid and a good video. I think the mind does have to shift if there is progress away from porn. I think the more you know and research the more the impact it will have on you and hopefully prevent relapse. At some point it has to be wired emotionally to you to prevent you going back to it. Feel the hurt and disgust it causes yourself and others by contributing to the cess pool by fapping away to it.

I listen to one on youtube by Noach Church. That is a good one too.

Would I be out of line if I asked you to say more about the negative way it affected you? If this question is in any way uncomfortable, please say so and I'll drop it.

  5. No problem.

Well, first of all most of those kind of videos are structured in a way that they made my brain shoot high doses of dopamine throughout the video, rapidly. That's obviously not a good thing in the slightest and it's pretty much what got me addicted to that P-sub.
Secondly, many of these videos' purpose is to induce a hands free orgasm -that's what peaked my interest and got me to try in the first place- and some of them did.
Thirdly, the vids also encourage you to fantasize a lot. So according to these three points, erotic hypnosis doesn't really differ from regular PMO, not by much that is. You're getting rapid, high dosages of Dopamine while fantasizing vividly and the game (probably)ends with an orgasm. In addition, those clips encourage you to give up your own will, which made me feel extremely anxious and uncomfortable.

Earlier this year I was having my first streak in nofap, which ended on day 72. Even though PMO was the thing I was originally abstaining from, I relapsed, not to regular porn, but to erotic hypnosis. Soon I was using it weekly and ultimately it completely wiped out every single benefit I had gained during those 72 days of nofap.
In the end, erotic hypnosis left me feeling even MORE drained and numb than regular porn yet with LESS use compared to when I was using regular porn. This is my experience.

Thanks, that's helpful. That tracks with my experience.

My reason for asking was this. That whole thing, for me, was about fantasy, but for me, it was something else. My fantasies were all about being dominated and controlled; and hypno was appealing as a way to make that fantasy almost "real." What I've always wondered was just how real the promise of hynosis really is. I am not talking about hypnosis as a genuine therapeutic method; I mean in this context. Your comment made me wonder whether the hypno affected me in ways I hadn't appreciated.

Now, of course, I look at that, and just shake my head at how I was willingly participating in my own enslavement. My four-plus months of freedom have given me a totally different view. Somewhere inside me is a circuit that can still respond to that; I won't deny it. But the main response I have is to draw back in horror at the thought of being shackled like that.

And honestly, there are lots of sites that say "nude art but not porn" and yet people upload content to it with clearly pornographic intentions. That's why it would be best to stay away from such sites if possible.

I understand. I can see why e-hyp "intrigued" you as much as it did, as it mostly is about domination and giving up control to someone else.
For me, at first, it was mostly about getting a sexual release without having to touch myself. That was me lying to myself and digging myself into a dark and deep hole, as it turned out. As I got more into it, I was also, apparently, trying to take my fantasies to the next level and reach a better high every time if that was even possible. This is something I realised only after I'd been doing it for awhile. I wanted to immerse myself into my fantasy world and forget reality.

Yeah, I believe you do, considering how much clarity of mind you must have gained by now. I'm still going through a phase where I try to focus more on the present and the future rather than the nasty past, which isn't really that far away yet. Luckily we can, and always ought to learn something from these kind of experiences, that otherwise affect negatively on us. We learn what our weaknesses are, and are thus able to use that information to our advantage in the future.

    @ekoluomu

Thanks a bunch. I have wanted to talk about this, but in a safe way. Even on this site, I didn't know who else had any experiences with it. I suppose I could have opened a thread. On the other hand, I try to be careful so I don't open a discussion that ends up being triggering, for me or someone else. I still wonder whether hypnosis can really do all that some people claim it can do; but I don't know that I need to know that. As far as I can tell, it's effects on me were no greater than how porn in general affected me -- thank God.

Thanks to you too. Me too, me too. I've tried to be careful about the subject too, for I absolutely do not want people to go "experimenting" on wrong things. I feel a bit like I'm talking about a less known drug among recovering drug addicts.
I think people who can relax more easily are more susceptile to it too. Maybe you are not one of those people. Indeed, thank God.

Definitely. I'm kind of hyper, always trying to multi-task. So yeah, I guess I dodged a bullet.

I remember reading claims -- by people who were really into this stuff -- about how hypno can dramatically change a person; but I've never seen anything to support that anywhere else. For obvious reasons, I don't search via google. My guess is that it must really mess with some people, even if it doesn't "change" them. But right now, I'm thinking back to things I'd forgotten -- to chatting with people who were way, way, way deep into a submission sort of thing. It's really scary to think about the things they told me. It scared me then, even though I was -- at the time, into that. But they would be so far overboard, it was a warning bell for me.

Well I realize I'm late to the game here...but I think a lot of people are getting tripped up semantically on "porn substitute". With what I understand of what you're doing, it sounds positive. Frivolous talk is better than porn, and if some or many of those talks are meaningful that's even better.

I hope you're able to examine why being more social would be a constructive response that fills a lot of the same needs and desires as porn. Even if you're chatting about celebrities or something meaningless, only certain kinds of talk are as destructive as pornography and they are easily distinguishable from gossip.

What somebody else said about the only real substitute for porn being living your life is dead on.

  15. Well that figures then. No wonder you were somewhat resistant, fortunately.

I've read about similar experiences and stories as you have. I can see how some people might be more easily manipulated and brainwashed than others. After all, brainwashing isn't a thing to be taken lightly. If you voluntarily let somebody to constantly mess with your mind , it's very likely that something will happen sooner or later.
Those kind of things are pretty scary and disturbing indeed, for they mess with your being, not just with your brain. I would say that there's something very dark and strange in the worst parts of hypnosis. I too, noticed myself listening to some fairly dark-themed stuff and it made me worried about my mental well being. I had to stop.

I don't know if this counts but since I quit porn I have gone harder and longer in my Muay Thai lessons. I now train 5 days a week for 2hrs a day. Though I have been training for 8 years, sessions have now intensified for me and the desire to compete again is stronger! This is maybe a good addiction for me.

Reading is another, I read anything from fiction to non fiction, a comic to a novel. They compliment my training and help me wind down.
