Edge of Tomorrow, good PMO struggle metaphor?

Edge of Tomorrow is, without a doubt, one of the awesomest standalone scifi movies since at least the turn of the millennium. It is about the military forces of earth banding together to defend themselves from an advanced alien race. The aliens, however, have the ability to reset the day relative to their perspective (quantum mechanics anyone?) so they can learn, with patience, exactly how their enemy, humans, will act. But a rare two humans discover their advantageous power. Eventually by learning to adapt and account for the details as their enemy does, the humans defeat the aliens.

One nice thing about being Catholic is the sacrament of confession. Yeah, it's weird; you go kneel or sit down in front of a (usually) old guy and tell him every bad thing you did that you can remember since the last time you did it. But man can it be cathartic, even if you don't believe in the spiritual aspect thereof. Every time I went to confession and got back on my God's good side (just kidding, it's a lot harder than that to be not on His good side) I felt a little like Tom Cruise in EoT. I had the ability to reset and approach my enemy on level ground once again. Each time I fail and reset, I gain a better understanding of enemy tactics. Extrapolating from known progress, it is inevitable that one day I'll be free of PMO, but in the mean time I'm glad I have the tool of confession available to me, be it of simply a cathartic or spiritual nature. BTW, most priests are pretty awesome dudes. Chances are you'll get one who genuinely wants to help a young man or woman overcome PMO.

Watched a trailer for it today and I didn't think of it as a metaphor for pmo but you're right!

I will look into the film as it relates to my studies too.

Well more a metaphor for quitting PMO, or any addiction for that matter. What do you study?

I study graphics, using sci fi movies in my thesis!

I loved how different those aliens looked. But I digress.
