    Hi all.

I'm the kind of guy that likes motivational quotes. I think they inspire, encourage and promote success.

Since my mid life reboot, (my upgrade to version 2.0), I have actively sort out inspiration. I'm a firm believer that you are what you do, and you become what read and think about. If you want to be a doctor, you study medicine. If you want to become a Lawyer, you study the law. So if I study pornography as much as I have done, I become an expert, a pornophile.

I other words we have to be extremely careful about what we let into our minds. They are fertile grounds for weeds. I'm astounded to be privilege to this knowledge and still find myself here. In need of help to kick a habit that I'm utterly ashamed of. It only goes to show how powerful this stuff is. A little knowledge is a good thing however it's only part of the solution. And the solution requires constant daily affirmation.

So I'd like to start a thread where I'll post motivational quotes to help me in my quest to reach day 60. I can't promise to make a daily post but I sure will try.

    Feel free to contribute.

    The Captain.

    A quote for Day one.

"Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them; but do not let them master you. Let them teach you patience, sweetness, insight."

I'd like to acknowledge the OP for this. I've stolen it from an AA website. But I think the words are lovely and applicable to us. (even though it's written as a women)

After Awhile (Sometimes referred to as "Comes the Dawn")

After a while, you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
    And company doesn't mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
    And presents aren't promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads
    On today, because tomorrow's ground
Is too uncertain for plans, and futures have
A way of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn that even sunshine
Burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate
Your own soul instead of waiting
For someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure...
    That you really are strong
And you really do have worth.
    And you learn and learn...
    With every goodbye you learn.

So far in my reading of others journey to clean themselves of this addiction, what I commonly find is a lot of negative self talk. Phrases like "I'm a loser" or negative comments about their future or past. Our brains grow these comments like weeds and eventually they become part of our self beliefs and cloud our view of the world.

Self Esteem is, in my opinion, one of the things that suffers most with addictions. Which then feeds the addiction, the need to escape, which damages our self esteem......

So here's a quote about our perception of our reality from an American journalist/author Sydney J Harris.

"It's surprising how many persons go through life without ever recognizing that their feelings toward other people are largely determined by their feelings toward themselves, and if you're not comfortable within yourself, you can't be comfortable with others."

    Sydney J Harris.

  5. "Pornographic images reduce the person being lusted over to body parts only. There is no dignity when the human dimension is eliminated from the person. In short, the problem with pornography is not that it shows too much of the person, but that it shows far too little."

    - Blessed Pope John Paul II

"Victory—victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival."

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

    -Winston Churchill

"I decline to accept the end of man.

It is easy enough to say that man is immortal because he will endure: that when the last ding-dong of doom has clanged and faded from the last worthless rock hanging tideless in the last red and dying evening, that even then there will still be one more sound: that of his puny inexhaustible voice, still talking.

    I refuse to accept this.

I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance.

The poet's, the writer's, duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past. The poet's voice need not merely be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail."

    William Faulkner.

“What does it mean when a man falls in love with a radiant face across the room? It may mean that he has some soul work to do. His soul is the issue. Instead of pursuing the woman and trying to get her alone, away from her husband, he needs to go alone himself, perhaps to a mountain cabin, for three months, write poetry, canoe down a river, and dream. That would save some women a lot of trouble.”
    ― Robert Bly

I take this mindset towards anything unhealthy that I find myself yearning after in my life.

    Two from Dodinsky for today.

“I do get angry. I get stressed. I do worry. I get sad and disappointed too. What I am not though, is consumed by any of them. I owe it to myself not to torment my soul with my own sorrows. I strive to move forward.”

"Unless you let them in, people who judge you cannot enter the courtroom of your mind. Case dismissed!"

So after a bit of a hiccup in my own personal journey I thought I'd look for something about keeping going after a knockback
