I am a Christian, born into the Lutheran denomination at birth, baptized 4 weeks later, and still a practicing Christian today, 52 years later. God has been faithful to our family for generations and the power of the Holy Spirit has worked a miracle in me every day of my life, most recently freeing me from the bondage of porn, masturbation, and same sex anonymous sexual encounters. I am not defined by my sin, because my sin has been washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ. I am defined by the precious blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.

Regarding the existence of Jesus Christ, there is ample secular evidence of Jesus being alive AFTER his crucifixion. There is ample evidence that Jesus was dead when removed from the cross and placed in the tomb. If God can raise Jesus Christ from the dead on the 3rd day as he predicted in the Old Testament, why would we doubt that God was able to create the entire universe in 6 days and why in the world would a Christian question creationism?

Personally, the complexity of the human orgasm, both female and male, is incredible and the workings of a great God. If you have ever viewed or seen animals having sexual intercourse, while the female is receptive to the male penis, she makes no indication that it is at all pleasurable to her. Imagine if the human female's sexual response was nothing more than some lubrication to receive a male penis to procreate. That is exactly what you should expect if you believe we are nothing more than random events in the universe.

I have stopped PMO, not due to religious reasons, but for healthier and happier relationships while here on Earth.

I don't think the debate is if Jesus existed or not, but rather if he was a prophet, God, heretic, etc.

At best, I'm agnostic. At worse, I'm an atheist.

I don't pray to God to save me. I just pray to myself that I have the fortitude to move on, to the next level.
Somehow, that always seemed like a cop-out, to blame your own defects on outer factors. Take sin, for example.
Temptation comes from the devil, if I fail in front of it, it's because the devil made me do it. Right?
It's kinda removing your blame from the picture.

What's your part in this gigantic, cosmic battle between Good & Evil?

You don't masturbate because of evil gremlins running around in your head. You masturbate because you feel like it. Because it's easy and its reward are instant.

But then again, if you abstain, even after Withdrawal and fighting off huge urges, comes an even greater REWARD.
The feeling of being the best you, you can imagine, is irreplaceable.
And I ain't got God at my side.

    It's only me.

Islam is not a book of do this and don't do that Islam Isa book of knowledge power inspiration guidance wisdom peace even science... Islam had predicted many things and has mentioned things that scientists just discovered much more to say if you wanna know real Islam visit your local mosque get a koran from the mosque NOT from a library because fake korans all over Internet and libraries etc

Maybe some people see it that way, but I think of it like this. Temptation doesn't come from the devil, temptation comes from pride. From thinking that you know better, that your opinion over rides your designers opinion of how you were meant to operate.
Of course, the question that follows, is, if God feels so strongly about how we should live the lives he gave us, why doesn't he just make us want to do those things? God is all about love. Love is not just a feeling, it's a choice, the choice to put the wants and needs of another above your own. If you don't have the option to put your own wants above God's, then you don't have an opportunity to actually love him. These, 'little gremlins,' as you called them, can't force you to do anything, but they can encourage you to act selfishly. Ultimately, the responsibility belongs to each individual.
I think that the idea of a cosmic battle between good and evil has been around a long time, but has been popularized by recent pop culture/media. I also think it is a completely flawed idea. God doesn't 'do battle' with anyone. If he exists, then he is an all powerful, all knowing, being. He doesn't fight with the devil. God is in a weight class all his own. A fight between him and any other being, including the devil/devils, would be similar to a fight between a human and an ant. The fight is not one of force and violence, it's a fight for our choice. God wants us to choose him because he loves us and knows that we can only be happy with him, and the devils want us to choose the emptiness that they exist in (hell) because they hate God. Because there is no love without choice, God will not force us to choose his way, and he won't allow the devils to force us to do anything, because, again, he wants us to choose freely.

That's what I thought too! Apparently Jesus's existence is a fact that some haven't investigated thoroughly enough. When I made that comment I was responding to another user that denied Jesus's existence. :)

Yah, there is really no reason to deny his existence. Just about everyone agrees that he lived.
I'm Jewish, and we don't deny his existence. We just don't think he is the messiah or anything.

    Atheist.

I don't see any logic on praying to a super being for our lives, when were our parents that raised us.

I see people thanking god ( there are different religions with different gods ) for everything, and i actually feel sorry for the parents and friends that really help the person. But no, it's all god's work :(

And besides, there are SO many religions out there ... which one would be true ?

This might sound selfish, but i rather thank myself than a god, because i go through the problems, i go through life, I'm the one to helps myself ... And i refuse to praise a god who allows rape, extreme violence, war, kids without parents, mental diseases, and others ( Stephen Fry actually said some stuff about this ).

People also thank their parents/friends when something good happens (assuming their parents/friends were involved). Here is an interesting idea:
If you don't believe in God, and it turns out that there is one, you (according to some religions) get severely punished. If you do believe in God, and it turns out that there isn't one, there are no consequences.
I wish you success on your journey to stop PMO!

Put your pride aside and think with your mind just think of it this way weather you wanna believe there is God or not or you can't seem to find evidence well then think of this the existence of the world should be enough.. Second thing is you should be Muslim and you will hit both birds with one stone because your probably thinking what if I live the modest life for nothing and I die and that's the end I just stay under the dirt well modest life is good for you and if there is judgment after death modest life is also good for you so you are getting two birds with one stone just by being modest instead of feeling you may limit yourself all for nothing in the end..and yea the devil exists and I can prove it to you 10000% percent and you simply can't deny it what they call here in America "bad luck" is actually an evil spirit.. I have been to a spiritual healer and I passed out and woke up a different person so no way that's a placebo and he didn't even touch me all he did was read Koran there was no gas in the room that made me pass out because he was 1 foot away from me those spiritual healers are not a scam go their for urself it's one hell of an experience and then tell me this world doesn't have a spiritual side

Alright, but how do I know if I should become a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist (then which sub-type of Buddhism?), Hindu, Jainist, Taoist or Shintoist?

Since I'm Scandinavian, would it be best for me to worship the Asa gods of my ancestors? Or maybe the ancient Greek gods, the ancient Roman ones, the ancient Egyptian gods, some native American gods or aboriginal Australian gods?

    That would be correct :)

But, as you probably know, in the past there have been religions ( or cults ) that now don't exist anymore.

Imagine if "god" belonged to one of them ... we would be all screwed XD

  16. Scandinavian too. Being spiritual, is also believingg. The belief in the good or the powers from above. Things we cannot see or measure. That's also what combines and links all religions together, technically imo.

Some doesn't believe in anything really or any specific religion, but still doing good for goodness sake, being great human beings. That for me, is still believing.

Well, practicing Jews consider Jesus to be a heretic. In the New Testament it says that you have to believe that Jesus was the son of God, otherwise you'll burn in hell forever. The Quran says that, if you do believe Jesus was the son of God/Allah, you'll burn in hell forever.

I'm not interested in starting a flame war about the potential existence of God (although I don't personally believe in God). But I wanted to add a layer of complexity to this classic philosophical question:
Because even if there was a God. Picking the right God out of all that have been proposed to be true gods, would be like winning the lottery. And you would be just as screwed if you picked the wrong God as if you didn't pick any God.
I also want to make the best out of life and contribute to making the world a better place :)

But, personally, I wouldn't define that as something religious or spiritual.

Choosing a religion isn't just guessing and hoping you are right. It takes a long time. Lots of research and talking to people.

Also, many Christians accept Judaism, and Muslims accept Jesus and Moses as prophets.

I'm Jewish, so I know more about our perspective. It's pretty much as long as you follow the 7 noahide laws, you are good to go. We aren't a missionary religion, so we are perfectly fine with people not being Jewish. As long as they follow those 7 laws (establish judges, no idolatry, no blasphemy, no adultery, no murder, no stealing, and no tearing a limb off of a live animal). Most people follow most of these.

I wish you success staying PMO free!

    That sounds great! :)
I don't personally agree that idolatry or blasphemy would be wrong, but the other laws sound fine to me. To me it would also depend on what you define as adultery, but of course you shouldn't cheat on your partner or spouse.
Yeah well, we're all human beings after all.
Right, if you have a personal belief based on personal emotions/experiences, I'm not trying to take that away from you.

All I was saying was that, to me, it wouldn't make much sense to try to force yourself into believing some god/religion just to be on the safe side when you die.
I wish you and everybody else the same! :)
