My name is Joe, I'm 50 years old and I'm addicted to porn and masturbation, and have been for 35 years. God, it feels weird just putting in out there like that. I'm going for total abstinence, to see how that goes. I think I'll just leave it like that for now, it's too embarrassing writing this.

There are multiple men in your situation on this forum. You are not alone and you are in the right place. Off the top of my head I can think of one name, @Catbert, but I know there are others. My husband is 40 but we are doing 90 days no sex or intentional orgasms. It's called a reboot. Best of luck to you!

Hi Joe, I have only recently started myself. Everyone here is very supportive and there is lots of great advice.
I also found it embarrassing to admit but it's great to reboot with the support of other people in your situation.
I'm only 29 but am otherwise in the same situation.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your support @fupornwife I've been reading more of the forum posts and am more confident that I can do this. This site seems like a very supportive place, which is what I think I need right now. I'll be sure to look up @Catbert . It's really great that you're here with your husband, supporting him through his reboot, and I wish you both much success and future happiness :)

Thanks @aem it is definitely easier knowing that probably everyone else here has, or does, feel the same way. After so many years keeping my little secret, it feels weird talking about it openly! Hope your reboot is going well :)

Hey , @OldJoe - Welcome to the forum! You'll soon find out that 50 isn't so old at all. I'm 63, and there are others even older. PMO doesn't magically disappear at some certain age - and any member here is fighting the same battle, regardless of our age, marital status, address, or background.

We fight this battle together, brother!

I know 50 isn't old, just feeling old right now. Thanks for the words of encouragement, I'll be in touch when my internet is back up (got a storm coming through just now)

Be completely honest with your significant other about your porn-habit and your desire to CHANGE. That will make success far more likely to occur.

:) yes, that's the goal I've set myself for today. Am a bit nervous about introducing the subject, but I hope she'll understand and be supportive of my need to change my habits.

I hope so to. I will pray for you and for your significant other so she can be understanding. I am lucky enough to have a wife who keeps me accountable, wants me to progress and helps me to not lose hope if I have to restart... I can honestly say our love and our relationship is better than ever since I opened up to her. Good luck! :D

Joe--good luck! I embarked on the same journey last year when I was 50. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. I made 100 plus days, it's a real milestone for me. You can do it!

I totally understand the position your in Joe, I might not be as old as yourself & am new to this place as well, but I understand what its like to be hooked for so long and be in a relationship . I know its hard after so long that such a habit is hard to break when its become such a 'norm' but I believe anyone can break it especially with the support of such a community & yes I agree with Mlope921 that having your partner on your side will help. Go for it man its never too late for an dog to learn new tricks!
