I'm interested in beginning a new post because I have some issues with the idea that a wet dream is somehow a traumatic event.
If you begin a reboot...and you endeavor to go say 60 days hard mode and your 25 days in. You will no doubt enjoy all the mental and physical components of a fucking fevered dream served up daily by satans waiter; depression, moodiness, waves of impulses and the like. But you push on. Then one night you have a dream and your treated to an orgasm in your sleep. This should serve as a reminder that your body is simply put a biological system and this is its way of preventing a build up of pressure. I have read reports where semen retention can have its own negative effect, like testicular pain and frequent erections. This is where the "wet dream" negates these effects and yet I have read on NoFap some posters are convinced that this is something to be avoided or controlled for the shame and failure to fulfill the commitment of a reboot are sure to follow. This doesn't seem to me to be a logical response. You can no more control a wet dream than one can command the phases of the moon. I'm very interested in hearing what the community has to say on the matter as I think that for some it needs to be seen in a different light particularly if it produces some sense of failure during the healing process. I don't believe that it should.

I am in agreement with you 100%. It shocks me when guys think that wet dreams ruin their recovery or that wet dreams are bad. NO. The point of NoFap is not to make your body retain all semen. That's just not healthy. The male body is specifically designed to release it every so often because it needs to, and wet dreams will keep your testicles healthy without you needing to give them a "manual release." I've said it before, and I'll say it till the day I die to anyone who thinks otherwise: WET DREAMS ARE GOOD FOR YOU. WET DREAMS DO NOT RESET YOUR RECOVERY COUNTER. DO NOT TRY AND STOP WET DREAMS.

Uh, Sorry If I sound like an idiot but... isn't excess semen broken down and reabsorbed by the body?. Semen production also decreases if a man doesn't get aroused frequently. So this makes the term "too much semen" null. Some people also tend to get no wet dreams at all throughout their lives(very rare though) or some may even get up to three wet dreams a week. I honestly think wet dreams are more than just expulsion of excess semen . I've heard that people who completely abstained from all sexual acts from a long period of time turned asexual over time and were unable to be sexually excited. So maybe it's your brain's way of maintaining sexual orientation because wet dreams often occur with erotic dreams however I'm doubtful about this.

Excess SPERM are broken down and can be re-absorbed into the body, but not all excess semen is - "the constant nominal production may exceed the reabsorption capacity of the glands, leading to a gradual build-up of seminal fluid, and eventual ejaculation through a nocturnal emission (wet dream) or a spontaneous ejaculation." So the "too much semen" argument isn't null. It's literally scientifically proven to be true.
I'm not saying that you're wrong about the whole sexual orientation thing, it might be true too, but be sure to check out the science behind that. I've never heard of anything like that from any scientific source. But either way, EVERY scientific source will tell you that wet dreams are good, healthy, and that stopping them is a bad idea.

Thanks everyone for your perspective. I was wanting to hear more about the issue because honestly, to Phools point, they have been a very rare occurrence for me, to the tune of perhaps 4 or 5 in my life and I'm in my mid 40's. I should think though if you are trying to offset a masturbatory condition then a sudden stoppage would lend itself to the possibility of a wet dream. What the science tells us about biological explanations for such an event isn't the issue as far as it relates to my original post. I think that my main concern was trying to dispel the notion that its somehow a mark against ones recovery and should be seen in a negative light. I just don't see how one could logically come to this conclusion. Even if your condition is such that you masturbate in your sleep... your asleep! What could you do to correct this? Certainly waking up and the first thought of the day is to feel down about yourself will bring you no benefit. Its my contention that what you can control during your waking hours is your responsibility, and that which takes place during deep sleep is an unintended consequence of abstaining from a habitual pattern and should not be viewed as a failure or a step backward in ones recovery. There is enough pain associated with the recovery from porn addiction. Anyone that is forthright enough to admit that they have this problem, then take steps to suspend related activity should be commended, and supported.

Woops, It seems I missed that detail, Thank you for correcting me and that orientation stuff is just a silly speculation :D. About the wet dreams, I agree that they are natural and supposed to be happen but they seem to make some fapstronauts ill like they have just relapsed. Most aren't affected but some are and I'm one of them unfortunately. My only concern with wet dreams is this. I also don't think this is a psychological issue because I've had several wet dreams and they made me feel dead even though I knew they were natural and healthy. There is plenty of advice on the web(that isn't religious or extreme) and I've yet to hear about someone who got hurt or damaged by avoiding wet dreams. I know I'm being an extremist here but I feel like I'm better off without having wet dreams.

Thanks Phool, I appreciate your response. I wanted to say something about the physical effects but it slipped past me during the writing. I don't know that I have ever experienced a physical reaction from PMO or a wet dream, though the last one I had was some 20 years ago. I have given it some thought and I don't have much to go on. I can see that it is an issue for some; feeling lousy, and sluggish, headaches and such. Its never happened to me. So it will have to be considered differently, and I'm not sure how one would correct it.

I think it's just physiological. Everyone works differently. I've never had a wet dream (even before NoFap) and I've been NoFap for 70 days. Apparently 17% of men have never have a wet dream so it's not exactly rare. I also haven't had any spontaneous ejaculation.

If my body does need to have a wet dream then it'll happen. So far it never has. Maybe that makes me lucky but I just see it as my body working the way that it needs to.

The stuff we know as semen is a mixture produced from 4 different glands (3 if you had a vasectomy). Though a small amount gets reabsorbed in some places, the vast majority is building up and being stored, waiting to be put to use. If there aren't wet dreams, then some semen is probably leaking out while peeing, or even slowly seeping unnoticed from the penis every day and evaporating. The body reaches equilibrium one way or another.

Wet Dream is common. And if you have it on certain intervals then it's right n fine. So, your view about it is nowhere Wrong.
ANd about those posters, I would say that excluding the nofap members, there is noone on earth who criticise P&M.
Some socialists even say that P**N & Ming prevents RAPE. Can you believe that ??? Besides,There are many Reformers including Doctors who tells what kind of P is good and in what posture M is most satisfying. And I bet you would believe their words and the way they justify themselves. But our pesonal experience says that PMO is ultimately disgracing, unmorale and unhealthy practice and we believe in it.
Hence, Just avoid those postures and Stay Focus!

True, but that is counting everyone and the majority masturbates or indulges in sex. But if we only consider people who abstain from these things then the percentage will be much lower.
Further proves my point. I'm not talking about retaining semen. It's the orgasm that is the nuisance that comes from wet dreams furthermore It ruins your reboot progress if you're doing hard mode (Rebooting without any sexual release) which is what many people choose here.

Yes but Phool, I think that's what I am ultimately trying to pin down is what you say here:

"It's the orgasm that is the nuisance that comes from wet dreams furthermore It ruins your reboot progress if you're doing hard mode (Rebooting without any sexual release) which is what many people choose here"

It seems to me that though the intent is to go hard mode, the wet dream it a process that you cannot stop. Short of remaining awake for the length of your reboot, Its the luck of the draw that you may have one or you may not. Should it be said though that it will ruin your progress? And furthermore to have it totally debilitate you in some way? It would be analogous to being a vegetarian and having eaten something only to find out it was made with some beef stock or something. It wasn't your intention to indulge in it but it happened nevertheless. You wouldn't any more give up and go out and have a hamburger than you should assume your reboot was all for nothing and may as well go and surf some porn.
I want to make it clear that Im not trying to be argumentative here. I want to try to hear from some people dealing with an issue that I'm not susceptible to. The only reason I bring it up at all is that I have seen some posts here, that are obviously written by some folks in a good deal of anguish, who are beating themselves up over something they cannot control. Im just trying to add a little perspective. We are all different, and so too are our methods of recovery I understand that. I wanted a conversation to help me in my understanding of it, and I thank you all for your opinions.

For religious reasons, my entire life is hard mode until i get married. But the orgasm that you get during a wet dream is very different than the orgasm that you get from masturbation or sex. The same chemicals are not released in your brain, and the psychological impact of attaching orgasm to an event doesn't happen. So when I have a wet dream (as i did last week), I do not reset my counter. Why would you reset your counter for something that is completely out of your control? If you personally feel like they mess you up psychologically, that is one thing, but i feel that is more of a choice. As long as people know that an orgasm from a wet dream doesn't mean that they must reset their PMO counter, that is my biggest concern.

From personal experience I find that I get wet dreams for two reasons:
    1) I have been abstaining from PMO for a little bit, but my body is still producing semen at a quick rate because it is still used to me releasing semen through m every day.
    2) Fantasies before going to sleep

The latter is controllable. I don't consider a wet dream a reset, but I do think that if it was caused by the second reason, it was somewhat my fault.
