    Hey Guys,

I have been doing NoFap for well over a year now, had my most successful period around January - February and have had severe ups and downs since.

I will straight up say, I know NoFap works and trust me, it has definitely helped me regain some energy and composure in my life.

My problem however is Chronic Depression, thats my genuine downfall when it comes to NoFap.

I've been researching spirituality and have been fascinated with the idea of Brahmacharya making one spiritually evolved and advanced... NoFap obviously is basically Brahmacharya for the western world, although some of our aims are more material than spiritual.

I am wondering if any of you, are doing this for a spiritual reason like me and if so, what insights have you had which have had a profound impact on you.

I'm doing this for spiritual reasons. I think putting my recovery in God's hands has helped me a lot, since he can do what I can't do for myself, which is to take away the natural carnal desires of my body.

I'm a follower of Christ, and this one thing has been holding me back from loving him and loving, reaching out to people. So basically, I am doing this for God, and for me because my joy is loving God and loving people without having anxiety caused by PMO. NoFap for me is just meeting others fighting this poison and cheering each other on, Christian or not. Want to remove bad habits doesn't need to be spiritual

God gave you those desires though. It was a gift to you and women. The goal is not to rid yourself of something that God gave you in the first place. The goal is to rid yourself of porn which isnt God given. When you reset and do the 90days you feel yourself being restored to equilibrium or factory settings. Thats when you can again feel natural attraction and desire for women. God wants you to get with girls dude, thats what theyre here for. Enjoy and love them.

I apologize for not being more clearer on my point, I meant taking away the lustful carnal desires of my body, like the desire to look at porn, fap, etc. I know that these God given desires are important and when used properly, are wonderful. But my point was I wanted God to help take away the lustful desires I have so that I can then use those sexual desires on someone I truly love and care for.

I can't speak for everyone, but I can feel that this is going to take me MUCH longer than 90 days. I've been fapping for more than 10 years and I doubt 3 months can simply erase a 10 year habit. In fact, everyday is a struggle on it's own, but the beauty lies in the opportunity to be better and also you do grow stronger. Don't get me wrong, 90 days is great and I've experienced many ups, but all Nofap is is a catalyst to facing your challenges and that lasts more than simply 3 months, it lasts a lifetime.

To answer OP, I wasn't doing it for spiritual reasons at first, but during my reboot I gave my heart back to Christ and chose to live a spiritual life and stay close to Him. With that being said, obviously I seek to live pure and that means cutting lust out of my life and ever since I have not been MORE motivated to continue with this journey. It was great that I was doing Nofap to better myself, for myself, but it is AMAZING that I can do it for God who loves us and wants us to be pure. The power lies in prayer, and He will give you strength...

    Yes, I am.

"For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others, and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it." -Matthew 19:12

Thanks for your responses so far guys.... What I am desiring for myself and I guess this enters the realms of spirituality, is that i want to achieve what I felt as a child, I want colours to be vivid, for small things to really matter to me again... I want to watch the birds in the sky and for it to actually mean something to me again.

I want to re-connect with people, namely my family and friends.

I guess, when I spoke of spirituality in the NoFap process, I meant it in a service to self and the universe as a whole moreso than anything religious, but if religious ideals work for you guys, I hope it helps and moves you all in the direction you want to go.

its a strong battle folks... lets all stay strong!!!

Don't want to be a downer, but everything still looks the same to me lol.

I think people really exaggerate the benefits of NoFap. We've gotten so used to spilling our man seed our entire lives, that either 1. Stopping it seems like some impossible feat, or 2. Once you finally stop it's like some new unexplored land that none of your friends have ever been to.

Not going to lie, 1st month I have ever done NoFap before I relapsed, I felt great, and then I relapsed. But other than feeling pretty good I haven't seen any changes. The only thing keeping me going through this is God and the main reason I am doing this is to make Him happy, the next reason is to show Him my faith and that I really believe in Him and His Son, and the next is for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.

I would say I'm doing it for spiritual reasons. At the same time I'm not doing it to prevent going to heaven or hell in the after life. Maybe to a degree in my present life. No pmo does help with my depression at times. Though I'm not familiar with Brahmacharya. I do try to take a little from everything. I think it helps at times.

How do you define spirituality? How do you define the soul? How do you define religion? This isn't "Brahmacharya" question specific. Just a general question.

I think I define spirituality in regards to the way you live your life in terms of inside of yourself.... its hard to define something this big really.

But I guess when I speak of spiritual, I guess its more an existential question, I guess my question should be is anyone doing this to be a better person in this world, not for themselves or any materialistic desires, but to become a better person to others and yourself.

Brahmacharya is basically NoFap but within the Hindu religion, but the ultimate end is enlightenment.... what is enlightenment?? I guess its to be in a place where you're content in your own skin, you're happy with the place you're at and the person you are.

I find I myself always care about what others think, I am neurotic, I get angry, I get melancholic etc etc, I have short relationships with women that never really go anywhere.... I personally want NoFap to make all this go away, for me to feel calm in my own skin.

Hope this answers part of the question

I totally hear you and agree on all your points. I am very glad your turning towards christ. Even though I am hindu. every religion requires purity( without lust) to appreciate it and get real benefits ( inner strength, mind clarity.. more compassionate and loving )

Yes, gather chi, practice brahmacharya, reach samadhi and become a god!

  15. Well I started this because of an addiction that was messing up my life by creating unhealthy thought and behavior patterns as well as messing with my body by creating hormonal imbalances, which gave me all kind of physical problems; insomnia, migraines, acne, etc. Those are now gone since I did my reboot and get hold of porn and masturbation addiction somewhat in control, still not fully free tho.

Now tho I feel it's starting to become more spiritual. I do want to strengthen my chi to be more healthy and to be able to perform astral projection better. I also want to transcend this realm of lower chakras, so to speak, where I have been living my whole life. Realm where desires of flesh and mind rules over the divine essence of soul. I want my consciousness to function from higher state of frequency.

It was always spiritual for me. I knew from day one that it was a spiritual battle, what that encompasses or en-details for the meaning of my life, how life needs to change, and enlightenment i have absolutely no complete understanding as yet.

I can tell you it's 100% a spiritual battle as well as a sheer mental battle, who's to say they're not one of the same?

It's all very confusing, but it's up to you to decide what you use as a motivator in life.

I find the NoFap lifestyle quite challenging, as I'm sure you all understand.

For years, I've been TRYING to find spiritual reasons to abstain. I've wanted to have discussions or read insightful books that resonate with me on the topic of what is actually happening on a spiritual level when we masturbate. I'm not talking about it being "sinful" but rather, it's a matter of thinking through the process of ejaculation. We might take semen for granted if we've seen a whole lot of it in our lives (and we have), but it's really about the closest thing to magic I can think of. Think of all the data, all the potentiality, all the vital lifeforce that many of us dump out by the bucketful. I feel in me some kind of ethical quandary with being so very wasteful with what could easily be described as a sacred part of us.

That's aside from all my other problems with porn, like how it affects my own desires, drives, and expectations with women. I feel like I'd somehow be a better person if I weren't enormously turned on by a good, old fashioned money shot.

I'll Google Brahmacharya, and look over all the replies in this thread. If anyone has any good resources that may fortify my spiritual reasons to abstain from fapping, please do share.

Hey man, let's just say, I'm too far gone, I think my dopamine receptors have been killed. even during long periods of NoFap, I am incapable of finding joy or moments of euphoria.

I have a gf, but even with the comfort of a nice partner and regular sex.... I can't find happiness or pleasure.

My journey to feel like the five year old me, probably is too late, I think I screwed up my biology with porn.

  19. Uh......... no. That's not what girls are here for.

    I agree with this guy

  20. Yes and no. To me everything is spiritual in a sense, but there's no need for me to reach any enlightenment, please external authorities or stuff like that with this. I'm just doing this because i love myself, or at least i'm in the process of learning it. And fortunately, that is a way to spread more love to the world which is currently lacking it so desperately.
