Isn't rebooting just as bad as porn addiction?

A lot of us here are essentially trying to go from doing a ton of PMO to no PMO at all. And some of you here even apply to this a lot of other things outside PMO including sex, social media (FB, youtube, instagram), any kind of photos that are arousing intentionally or unintentionally, or anything that seems instantly gratifying etc.

This just seems like replacing one obsessive behaviour with another obsessive behaviour.

They say a healthy balance is usually required and I don't see a balance in basically conditioning yourself to avoid all these instant gratification material. And it doesn't sound possible. No PMO itself is possible but including all the other instant gratification in this day and age? Might as well live in a cave.

Not trying to be condescending here. Just asking a question.

Thats like saying a coke addict shouldnt stop partying with cokeheads. I don't think anyone is demanding that you get off of social media etc...but that it is best to avoid all triggers if possible.

What are triggers? This could be different for each person right? So how do you recognize what a trigger is

Yeah, triggers are different for everyone. I for one dont have to avoid social media as my problem is with porn sights. But for those that use social media during their fapping should probably avoid it.

You shoul be able to recognize a trigger as it immediately sends your brain into overdrive wanting to fap.

    *mind blown*

Now that i think about it ... it can be true.
    However ...

You can get rid of an addiction in a passive way. If you put much thought on "not doing something", you'll eventually end up "doing that something". So it's just better to forget about it, and ignore at all costs.

But EVEN if you choose to put thought into it, or be obsessed about it, first of all you shouldn't :p But if you do it, you are working for a greater good. Eventually, your work will pay off, and the possible stress and anxiety that could come out of the "reset", would disappear eventually, since the addiction it self would disappear aswell.

But if you are obsessed about feeding an addiction ... it is never going to end. In fact, you would get even more obsessed about it.

I'm also thinking about that. It's kind of annoying when a picture of a hot girl pops up on the internet and then i have to close it or ignore it ... But I'm at to a point where i can control myself. If I'm on youtube and i see a thumbnail of a hot woman, i look at it, and look away naturally !

After you lose the addiction, you don't need to be "filtering" everything you see. That's the whole purpose of the "reset" ! :D You are supposed, after dropping the addiction, of looking ( eventually ) to a hot girl's image and not desperately trying PMO to it, but just naturally look away ... At least that's how i see it.

In conclusion, a lot of what you mention does not apply AFTER you get rid of the addiction, but until then ... you'll have to go through hell, my friend  But it is definetly worth it

This is what I thought of as well. It's like replacing a bad habit with a good one and eventually it becomes natural. I didn't make it far enough (3 weeks plus they say) to really experience severe withdrawal symptoms so we shall see.

Actually, the only withdrawal symptoms i had, is that exactly 7 days after i relapsed ( i relapsed a lot of times in the past ), i would feel like shit, in a hole of dread and depression. The next day everything would be fine :D

Now that i think about it, i might be more aggressive now. But not by a whole lot ... however since i have been always a calm person, people might see a noticeably difference, i dunno.

But everybody is different ... who knows, you might turn into an elephant after a month :p

I've always dealt with mood swings, depression, anxiety from before especially during my formative years and before PMO became an addiction. So it's hard to notice like when I get into a shitty mood or feel angry and irritable I just chalk it up to another mood swing. Or working out and not getting enough rest or being hangry. Heh.

If you look at something and it creates a porn urge........ congratulations you just found a trigger

If you are in a certain situation that creates a porn urge, such as laying in bed with your iPad......That's a trigger

It's as simple as cue and response. Anything that creates the urge for p*** is a trigger or cue

First of all understand that our problem is same but our circumstances and surroundings are different. To quit PMO one doesn't necessarily have to shifted to a cave. No one is telling you to quit social media or other things. When anyone states about their problem fellow NoFappers state their ways. You have to unedrstand them and try to devise your own steps, some may fins quitting social media helps them but that doesn't mean that you have to quit social media if you can carry on your journey alongside it, its upto you. Some might find that by abstaining them from some instant gratification materail helps them in their rebooting journey. Through my journey I have realised that I have to tailor make my ways with the help of insights/steps/solutions whatever is advised to me by fellow NoFappers.

Trigger is something or some situation that creates the urge of viewing of porn or masturbation.

Don't care much for this idea. As said above. If a meth addict decided that he should only smoke it once a week... You get the point? Mabye you aren't as addicted and destroyed by this as some of us.

  18. The only thing bad about rebooting are the withdrawals. Look if you have a severe addiction it's the only way out it's better to go through it than to remain an addict. Right? There's no such thing as balance if you're addicted because each relapse will keep you in that place.

Extreme situations call for extreme measures, I get it. I'm at the withdrawal stages now and even having nightmares. Really vivid nightmares, the type that would wake a kid up and have them crying because it felt so real.
