This shit (porn addiction) starts sooner and sooner. When will you educate your kids?

I keep seeing here still younger and younger kids sometimes even 12, 13, 14 old already addicted to porn. And that is only a tip of the iceberg as many young teenagers have not realized it yet.
Also I read somewhere research that 90% of 12-year boys already masturbate at least once in a month.
What do you think when is the proper time to educate your (future) kids about negative effects of porn and masturbation?

I think when they are 16.
And until they are 16 don't allow them to have tablets, mobiles or laptops of their own.
Set restrictions and passwords on all devices in the house including games consoles.
Do everything in my power to curb the possibility of potential to access P.

I wish I had restrictions on what I could access online when I was younger.
I was growing up when internet was growing up.
I would very likely not be here in the first place otherwise.

I was addicted to porn at 11 or so. I'm 16 now and at a battle with my addiction. I would give them "a talk" restricting them would only want them to do it more.

This is an important subject @JustinX. It is not unusual anymore for children to have started masturbating to high-speed internet porn by the age of 10. o_O Therefore, I would begin @ 8 years old. It is tragic that such a thing is necessary. But we cannot bury our heads in the sand about the accessibility and the allure of pornography to kids. We must start young!

This seems logical but what has society come to that sex Ed and porn Ed should be a norm for people aged 8-12.
There should be tighter household restrictions to keep kids innocent and pure about the topic until they are properly "aware" in a mature sense to have a real discussion about these things.

It's so sad what technology and high speed porn has done to kids childhoods.

Gone are the days of naivety and gone are the days of simply being a child.

    It's a disgrace.

No I dont think restrictions are good way, even if my parents would make some I would find a way around them. The only think that helps in my opinion is prevention and education.

I probably first time mention pornography when I mention the drugs. Probably age 7-8. Not much details just drugs and pornography is dare cause same addiction and that have to to be aware of it. More information maybe 10-11.

I have to say that my parents did great job regarding the drugs but totally failed in porn& masturbation (told me that masturbation is even good). If I knew what I know now I would never become porn addict.

  7. They teach masturbation is good in schools but say drugs are bad. These are the people who are supposed to educate kids. Masturbation is a drug. However I think the main problem is peer pressure from friends. I think the PMO habit is rooted in cool-guy-behavior. It's a frightening problem really. Lambs to the slaughter. One generation after the other. The only solution is education and prevention but no kid will stop the habit unless it could become symptomatic for a while. Then they would realize. Porn should be illegalized. It would be a huge step forward. It should in any case become less accessible. Porn is free and it's everywhere. All kids need is a computer and internet connection. So basically kids are motivated to PMO even encouraged by their peers.

Yes, it is tragic that the childhood years of innocence and naïvety have been truncated. I agree, it is a societal indictment. It is also a sad fact that the majority of parents are negligent in bringing up their kids to understand such vital information. o_O

Notwithstanding, responsible governments have to take the initiative and ensure that junior school kids know about the brain changing consequences from addictions to porn and masturbation. Personally, I would like to see better narcotics education as well. The link between drug use and mental health issues is rarely mentioned. Children need to be warned!

This is slightly off-topic, but I accidentally started at 4 by 'prone masturbation' (rubbing, humping objects, using different types of materials, clothes, etc). I'm low on time right now, so ill keep this short.

If you know anyone who does this, please advise them not to. You can find out more using google or another search engine.

The side effects of this for me are:
    • extremely saggy balls and wrinkly (18 years)
    • a desensitized penis and testis (by 13-14 years old)
    • Can get hard, but not fully erect , the base is loose causing the penis to hang to the side (probably erectile disfunction) (15-16 years old)
    • Low self-esteem
    • Self-shame
    • Porn addiction
    • One of the factors leading into depression/anxiety
    • and more.

I've recently stopped watching P and it's quite scary and f'ed up how porn is targeting teens.
I saw a male P star that looked 15 yrs old at best, and guess what, he kept showing up in incest mommy or 'friends mom' P. Its so obvious that they are literally making P for under 16s.

  12. Nice. Thats real parenting. You have way to many people who have kids with no intention to be parents and theyll buy and let their kids access whatever so they can ignore them and go live their own life. There's no reason someone younger than 16 or 17 should have high speed internet access in their room. Good or bad, kids are curious and they're going to look.

So I may have a different approach to this than most others. I feel like saying "YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO WATCH PORN" would lead to the exact opposite outcome.

Growing up in a Greek American household, I was allowed to have a glass of wine at dinner if it was available. As a kid I thought it was rather gross, but it wasn't locked away. I compare this to other American kids who had to hide their drinking from parents. How many of them ended up abusing alcohol when they got into college? I don't know that answer, but I know, I didn't. I enjoyed a little buzz but I had no desire to get smashed.

My hypothesis is this: If you ban an action from people, they'll fight and find some way around your ban. Empower people. Literally give them the power to decide. When you ban someone from something, it takes away power from them, it takes away their power to choose for themselves. I believe this leads to opposition and rebellion.

I got rid of all porn blockers. They were useless. I could work around them just as easily as I set them up. Be honest, how many of you set up your bans just to find a way around them?

Now this is where I may be different from you, reader. I grew up with a mother who always dictated what I was to do and never gave any reason. She's a wonderful mother, but I longed for a reason to listen to her directions. If she gave me a good argument, I believe, I would have listened and it would have saved us much argument.

My fear for the future: We will try to institute a porn ban, and it will only make things worse. As parents, lets educate our children on what it is, and even how we struggle/d with it. Explain why it's fake, why it hurts us, and why we want to protect them from it. But, leave the choice up to them. I think a serious education about porn and its outcomes is the best way to save anyone from it.

I also see a future where foolish politicians lobby back and forth for/against the porn industry and banning it. I think governments could do more public good by educating the public about the effects of porn instead of an outright ban. Much like a prohibition. I think this would require academic studies on the effects of porn and a campaign to educate those involved in mental health (physicians, psychologist, counselors, etc.)

With that being said, sorry. I can't pick a specific age for certain. I agree most with JustinX. I would introduce it to them multiple times throughout their life. I would go into further detail as they mature and can show some deeper understanding or questioning.

For those of you who would try to ban porn from their children, why do you think it would be effective? Do you dis/agree with the effectiveness of porn blockers on yourself?
