I think the most insidious effect of this strain of porn is the INTENSE guilt and shame it produces. Of course, if you read any of the literature, you learn that the guilt and shame are exactly the added ingredients to the porn cocktail your brain needs to maximize the dopamine jolt. The lingering doubts about “core sexual identity” are some of the most troubling feelings many of us grapple with well into recovery.
