Even if you pause PMO temporarily from a long streak using human willpower, this has absolutely nothing to do with transforming the mind, or saving the soul from eternal spiritual death from sin. The saving of the soul is called regeneration. God comes and lives within you and you will not desire to sin anymore. He will help you overcome, as he did for me. The following is why you cannot spiritually stop PMO, and most remain held in bondage without God being the director of your life and leading you by his Spirit; daily.
#1 BE OF GOD
You may not know God You think you know him? Do you even profess you know him? Are you good ground? Or are you really a deceptive tare? We don't know how many tares are among the true elect. Jesus said, you will know them by their fruit. But do you really think you are living for God when you are living in PMO sin? You may not know God. Matthew 15:8 KJV - This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. How do you know you have God inside you? 1 John 4:1-2 - Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: How do you know you love God? John 14:21 - He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Matthew 24:13 - But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
#2 FEAR GOD (reverent awe)
You are not fearing God 8:13 - The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Until you hate sin you will remain arrogant against God and held in place to PMO. You cannot have reverent awe of God when you have no respect of sin. Do not be deceived, sin is enmity against God and without repentance, sin will kill you.
#3 GET WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING
You are lacking wisdom Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Proverbs 4:7
#4 BECOME A HEARER OF THE WORD
You are not hearing God’s voice James 1:19 - let every man be swift to hear… Matthew 11:15 - He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Romans 10:17 - So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
#5 BELIEVE GOD’S WORD
You are not believing on God Take heed, there is an eternal difference in believing in Jesus and believing on Jesus. Believing on God means you have complete unwavering steadfast trust on what God says his will is. You trust always and do not doubt. The Bible says that by walking in the Spirit we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. ... Paul writes in Galatians 5:16, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. To commit sin is to transgress or disobey these laws. John 15:7 - If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. James 1:6-8 - But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
#6 BECOME A DOER OF THE WORD
You are not doing what the Word says James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
WARNING! Do not be deceived When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart.

Even having faith in God is a good work..... To maintain our faith needs mental and spiritual work right? So then good works are also necessary

Read Paul's letters in their context.. when saying that"works" are not necessary, Paul is speaking about WORKS OF THE LAW and not GOOD DEEDS... Works of the law, like circumcision, animal sacrifice etc are no longer needed for justification... However, Paul himself tells us to do good deeds... And James also clarifies for us that "faith without good deeds is dead"

Don't confuse the two... WORKS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT LAW, such as circumcision, animal sacrifice etc are not necessary for salvation.. that's what Paul is saying... However, GOOD DEEDS, such as trying to help those in need, trying to avoid sin etc are absolutely necessary

Jesus Himself says that Good Deeds are necessary to be saved.. look at HIS OWN WORDS:. "For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink. 43 I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home.". These are the words Jesus will say to those who go to hell... And for what? Because they did not do the good deeds they should have been doing....

Both having faith, and doing good deeds are both gifts from God, and both are necessary, and God

And since both are gifts from God, to Him alone belongs the main credit... But definitely both are necessary...

@Boanerges777 I copied the post with permission so we could discuss it. I feel the Christian group is more for encouragement but here we are free to take it to other places and point out the hypocrisy if that is our opinion. I would love to hear more from you at any time. You know I am a Calvinist.

Hill mountain the 10 commandments ARE THE LAW any work you do is apart of the law. Give me some good works that are not apart of the law that you are performing to earn your way to heaven.

James was not even talking about salvation he is talking about justification before men I suggest you read the whole book of James and not nit pick to make a works based theology

Hahaha that makes total sense. I have read John Calvin’s commentary’s and he would have rebuked them so hard. XD so would’ve Paul like when he rebuked Peter for adding works to the gospel.

Hahaha I was Just reading Calvin today! as far as the RC go. I have to say I appreciate the lively debate they bring to the group. Our group is very small right now and I'm a believer that conflict makes things interesting for all involved. We do need more Calvinists though to stand up for our reformed theology.

What is this post from standstoreason? It looks like a guy with an idea of his own he backs up with cherry-picked bible verses and threats about being against God if you don't agree? Also, he wrights as if PMO were the only sin he has to deal with and is therefore now set free from sin because he hasn't touched himself for a while?

I don't care what people think or do but here is the problem with this stuff. Young people or nieve people will read this stuff and think if they fail and continue to fail they have no place in Gods kingdom. What if someone committed suicide because they were convinced they and they alone were a real piece of shit? I got news for you were all pieces of shit and out sin is covered by a savior. Whoever allows this kind of thing to be published in a Christian forum is making a mistake. Bigly!
